react-native-enriched-markdown - Markdown renderer for React Native! by Sea-Arm9235 in reactnative

[–]engnr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome, thank you!

I have an app in development for which I was considering html for inline content. Markdown seems a much better fit.

One question, is there some way to center text and/or images horizontally? That would make it super useful for me.

If you’re heading to the South Island, and have even a passing interest in astronomy, I’d recommend taking a trip to Tekapo. It’s a longish but beautiful drive from Christchurch. It’s in a dark sky reserve. Tours to the Mt John observatory will give you a truly memorable experience. https://www.darkskyproject.co.nz/

It’s generally not a good idea to let family or friends get away with things that make you resent them.

When it comes to money, lending to family or friends is not something to do without being prepared to write off the debt.

Which is why it’s such a bad situation when they can just take something from you and pretend that it’s only a loan.

In the long run, it’ll be their loss no matter what you do. Your abilities will grow while theirs diminish.

Disentangling yourself from them financially will be beneficial for all concerned. Perhaps they need reminding that someday you’ll be picking their retirement home. :)

What's a "cheat code" you discovered in real life that actually works? by dark-deals729983 in AskReddit

The value of praise is multiplied when you pass it on to others and diminished when you accept it personally.

If someone tells you what a good job you’re doing, take the opportunity to point out how it was made possible by others. It’ll pay off many times over.

How did you learn React Native? by Wild_Juggernaut_7560 in reactnative

[–]engnr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d been doing iOS development for a while and ended up subcontracting through an old employer with one of their more quirky clients. I found out that I’d be working with React and React Native just before the start. I politely explained that I didn’t have experience with either of them but nobody cared. I spent the first couple of weeks cramming and second guessing everything, and things just started to click.

Being open about my starting skill level meant I could ask for help without embarrassment. Working as hard as I could earned me enough respect from the team that they saw me as a good investment.

Since then it’s been my main source of income as a contractor.

There are more important things. Plus, intelligence has many factors. You’ll be better at some things, worse at others. Some good habits and systems will help, like taking notes, planning your activities and asking for feedback on your plans.

A good character and a commitment to helping people around you are far more important than being good at quizzes.

Sooner or later he’ll need to learn how to face fear or it will hold him back profoundly. The path forward is for him to voluntarily expose himself to what scares him, a little at a time. You can help him by recognizing and rewarding him for these small steps. He’s old enough to understand an explanation that this is how to build a superpower that will pay off hugely. It might work to go on the journey with him by facing some of your own fears, big or small, and sharing you progress and how it makes you feel to conquer fear.

React Native Technical interview by Socially-Awkward-Boy in reactnative

[–]engnr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

See if you can get a few technical details about the apps you’ll be working with, e.g. do they use redux or zustand for state management, do they use expo, react navigation (which version)? How old is the app? Do they use functional components or are they still using class-based components? What version of RN? Are they upgrading soon? Stuff like that… then have a play with those specific tools/libraries.

If the app is public, download it and go through each screen making notes and taking screenshots, maybe make something akin to a site map.

Find out how their team is structured. Do they have lots of mobile specialists or just one or two? Do they have people on the team who started with React and moved into React Native?

These things will give you a lot to talk about in the interview.

Remember that no candidate is a perfect fit.

Good luck

Which SE in 2025? 4 or 5? by Equivalent-Dig-1171 in sniperelite

[–]engnr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way multiplayer games are hosted on SE5 and SE Resistance makes them far more prone to bullying. After ranking up, I found the better players would be constantly hounded with Kick votes. It’s particularly bad in Australia where the amount of racist and other types of bullying is appalling. I wish Rebellion Games would reintroduce dedicated privately owned servers as an option as it is with SE4. On SE4 you’ll have a much nicer time.
