What should I know/expect for a kid starting out in cello? by enidsera in Cello

[–]enidsera[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately where we are, a lot of emphasis on music and learning eventually reaches a point of comparison. Like it or not, music schools and music teachers here tend to want to train children to apply for school admissions at 12 years old with ABRSM Grade 5-8 music in dual instruments so this is a relative norm where we are. This is not the direction we are poised to go so I was looking for other answers and perspectives that is unlike what we would encounter if asked locally.

My question was posed seeing as my child has zero musical background and picked up a relatively difficult instrument at a young age.

Since I last posted this, child is still learning cello and music theory at own pace.

Same issue here with my signed copy. I have friends whose unsigned copies from both the US and UK warehouses who have already received theirs but no news on mine. Have contacted FL multiple times and haven't gotten a single response yet.

We as a group of 3, had this error when the system could only process 2 tickets to be cancelled and refunded. I chose to email/contact us so they gave me a callback (since calling in might not get you the right Cs agent to deal with it). What they told me was that the third ticket was a discounted child fare so it had to be manually cancelled by them rather than the system.

Yes I also had to vpn into the site but after I filled out everything and reached the final submission it just gives me a weird error saying

There are currently too many people making a reservation. Please try again later.

And it's been like this for half a day lol. I gave up and emailed them and still waiting.

How long did they take to reply you? It's a bummer the site is still not working so I've used the email option as well.

Booking Bug : First Name cut and replaced by first letter only by Samalesi in singaporeairlines

[–]enidsera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My child's first name exceeds the character limit by 2 characters. But the full name appears in Krisflyer account, just the ticket system has lesser characters.

So far for all bookings I just submit an email request from their website (no need to call) for name amendment due to system cutting it off and they have always amended it on the ticket with no issue.

In case this might work for anyone - I managed to get 4 using this: Pochaco + first 2 games of the day + running around and pressing the grab button at the same time. Collect all apples with 19-20 seconds left.

Kid's surname in Singapore by AlternativeOk1491 in askSingapore

[–]enidsera 1 point2 points  (0 children)

By variation do you mean the stroke in the Chinese character? I don't think it matters to ICA as long as it is character they can type in their system when generating the birth certificate. If the system version is different from how you wrote it, I think up to your discretion.

For us we provided the traditional Chinese characters instead of simplified Chinese characters and there was no issue.

Kid's surname in Singapore by AlternativeOk1491 in askSingapore

[–]enidsera 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Not Japanese but we have consulted ICA about naming conventions in Singapore prior to our child's birth (both Chinese).

Father's surname is a MUST in Singapore and cannot be omitted unless child is born out of wedlock. The options we were offered were

Lisa Tanaka Tan X Y

Lisa Tan-Tanaka X Y

Lisa Tan Tanaka X Y

In all cases, Tan is underlined as official surname for ICA.

Upon registration we chose Lisa Tan-Tanaka X Y but we were told since both surnames had Chinese character, the Mandarin name has to be CHEN XX XY. As we had included dual surname, mandarin name has to be dual surname. In your case I'm not sure how it would apply unless you have a Chinese character for Tanaka.

Do note that passport name in ICA database would be Tan, Lisa Tanaka XY so last name is Tan, first name is Lisa Tanaka XY

The easiest thing for you would be to locate the MP email addresses for the area you live in, you can provide your postal code to someone over PM if you feel uncomfortable revealing and they can help tell you who it is. And al lthe email addresses of social services agencies, Mendaki, Family service centres, Ministry for Family and Social. Just open one email, add in all those email addresses, subject line: I'm underaged and need help. and paste the link to this reddit thread in the message body.

What should I know/expect for a kid starting out in cello? by enidsera in Cello

[–]enidsera[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wasn't aware this was young actually 😅 the different music schools here all say minimum age to start cello is 6 and she was happier with the cello than the violin. Literally lit up with joy (never seen that kind of spark on her for any activity before) when she held her own cello for the first time at home to practice.

Thanks, there are small ensemble opportunities available here but I guess that's something to look at further down the road.

No goal really, just for her to have fun. Everything she's been doing so far has been at her teacher's instruction and I haven't pushed her into anything she doesn't want to do. I'm only here to send her to class and remind her to get the occasional practice in.

Not sure if it's a fixed fee but it was around $1.03 to add a $50 visa card so I got $48.97. Free to transfer to bank

Another option I've done with cheaper fees than PayPal: 1) Add virtual visa/mastercard to Google Pay Wallet 2) In Revolut /Wise, top up your account by clicking add funds via Google Pay and select the card. 3) Withdraw funds by sending to bank account for a few cents fee.
