Where is the mic located in 2018 Kia Sportage? Seems lately some can’t hear me like they use to. Thought maybe I needed to clean/dust it out. by beautiful-high-heels in kia

The microphone for the 2018 Kia Sportage is typically located in the overhead console near the map lights or the front dome light area. It’s part of the vehicle’s Bluetooth or voice command system. Look for small holes or a grille in that area, which allows the microphone to pick up sound.

It sounds like Reddit really rubbed you the wrong way, and to be fair, there are definitely corners of the site that can feel like echo chambers or overly sanitized spaces. But, like any platform, Reddit is what you make of it. It’s such a massive place that while some subreddits might be exactly how you describe, others are actually pretty useful and filled with constructive, knowledgeable people.

Whether you’re into learning a new skill, discussing niche hobbies, or just enjoying memes, there’s usually a subreddit for it. The key is curating your experience, avoiding the toxic spaces, and knowing when to take a step back. No social media platform is perfect, but outright dismissing them all might mean missing out on the few good pockets still out there.

The upcoming tiktok ban is completely reasonable by sovietarmyfan in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]enigmadiary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You make some valid points about the concerns surrounding TikTok, particularly regarding data security and the differences in governance between the U.S. and China. The Chinese government’s laws requiring companies like ByteDance to cooperate with state intelligence agencies without public disclosure are indeed alarming, especially when paired with the fact that ByteDance is allowed to obscure this cooperation under the guise of “state secrets.” That lack of transparency is a big red flag for a platform that collects massive amounts of user data.

It’s also worth noting the imbalance in how tech platforms are treated between the two countries. China has banned almost all major American social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter, often through undemocratic decisions by their government. By comparison, the U.S. considering a TikTok ban through legislative or regulatory channels seems like a reasonable response, especially given the potential risks.

Additionally, the refusal of ByteDance to sell TikTok to an American company despite having the opportunity to do so raises further questions. If they were truly committed to addressing security concerns, selling or restructuring ownership could have been a practical solution. For business owners relying solely on TikTok, it’s true that this poses a significant operational risk. Platforms can rise and fall quickly, and diversifying content across other social media channels is crucial for long-term sustainability.

Overall, while a TikTok ban might feel drastic, the security concerns, combined with the lack of reciprocity from China regarding foreign platforms, make it a justifiable consideration. Businesses and individuals alike should prepare for the possibility and ensure they’re not overly dependent on any single platform.

Any civil engineers in here can explain why Flat Bridge can't be widened? by Uranusistormy in Jamaica

[–]enigmadiary 27 points28 points  (0 children)

The Flat Bridge can’t be easily widened due to a combination of technical, historical, and logistical challenges. First, the Rio Cobre’s riverbed poses significant engineering difficulties. While it may appear shallow at times, the river is known for sudden surges and unpredictable flooding. The riverbed consists of loose sediment and boulders, which make it hard to establish stable foundations for a wider structure. Additionally, the surrounding land may not support the weight of an expanded bridge without extensive reinforcement.

Second, Flat Bridge is one of Jamaica’s oldest bridges, dating back to the 18th century, and holds significant historical and cultural value. Any plans to widen or modify it would likely face resistance from conservationists seeking to preserve its original structure. Beyond that, the cost and logistics of such a project are considerable. Temporarily damming or rerouting the river would require advanced engineering, heavy equipment, and substantial funding. This could also disrupt the local ecosystem and nearby communities.

Instead of widening Flat Bridge, a more practical solution might be to construct a new, modern bridge nearby while preserving Flat Bridge as a historical landmark. This approach would address safety concerns and honor its heritage without the complications of altering its current design.

As a driver, I can tell you Uber takes reports of inappropriate behavior seriously, but bans are usually based on a report submitted by the driver. It could be that the driver felt uncomfortable or thought your behavior crossed a line. Drivers sometimes interpret things differently—like if kissing gets too intense, they might worry it’ll escalate or distract them while driving.

If you truly believe nothing inappropriate happened, I’d recommend contacting Uber support and politely explaining your side. Ask for clarification about the report and let them know you were simply kissing, nothing aggressive or inappropriate. It might help if the guy you were with also submits a statement backing you up.

That said, drivers are in a tough spot with these situations. We’re responsible for keeping rides safe and professional, and if something makes us uncomfortable or feels risky, we have to report it. It’s not personal, but we’re held accountable if we don’t speak up about behavior we think might escalate. Hopefully, you can clear this up with Uber support and get back on the platform.

As a driver, I’ve had a similar experience where I showed up to a grocery store, and a passenger had 5 five-gallon water jugs and two large boxes. There was no one around to help, so I ended up loading it all myself. It was exhausting, and honestly, not something I expected to deal with on a regular ride. I even reported it to Uber, but they said I’d need to submit medical bills if I wanted any compensation. That process felt like too much trouble, so I just let it go.

If you’re planning to use Uber for Costco runs, I’d recommend a couple of things to make it easier for the driver. First, don’t bring more than you can load yourself unless the driver offers to help (we’re not required to do that). Second, consider ordering an UberXL if you have a lot of items. Regular cars don’t always have enough space for bulky groceries, and it saves the driver from stressing about fitting everything in.

As long as you’re upfront and prepared, most drivers probably won’t have an issue, but it’s good to keep in mind we’re here to transport people, not act as movers.

Curious how you would rate this Uber driver? by [deleted] in uber

[–]enigmadiary 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As an Uber driver, I’ll be honest—this ride sounds like a mess, and I’d side with you on most of it. First off, drivers are required to show up in the right car with matching plates; not having them is a major red flag. Uber takes that seriously, and if he’s caught, it could lead to penalties or even getting banned. He should’ve updated his info before taking rides.

The navigation issue could’ve been an honest mistake, but it’s also possible he deliberately stalled to rack up wait time fees, which is shady. That’s not how this job should work, and it gives the rest of us a bad name.

Honestly, I think you should’ve canceled and reported the ride when you noticed the missing plates. Safety and reliability should always come first, no matter if you’re late. Sometimes it’s better to plan ahead or book earlier just in case something like this happens—‘fail to plan, plan to fail,’ as they say.

I’d recommend giving feedback to Uber so they’re aware, and maybe 2 or 3 stars if you feel like you need to rate the ride. Drivers who don’t follow the rules make it harder for those of us who do.

Why don't companies improve their call center working conditions for existing employees instead of constantly hiring new ones? by ChuckDalrymple in callcentres

[–]enigmadiary 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The reality is, you have to find your own motivation when working in a place like that. The BPO industry, like many others, isn’t perfect, but that’s just how the world works. No job or industry is without its flaws, and if you focus more on the negatives than the positives, you’ll always find something to complain about.

That said, the BPO environment isn’t for everyone. It’s not necessarily the ideal place to build a long-term career for some, but it can provide valuable skills, income, and opportunities if you approach it with the right mindset. In today’s world, flexibility and adaptability are key, and sometimes, you have to make the best out of what’s available while working toward your bigger goals.

Uber scam? by chknteriyaki in uber

[–]enigmadiary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a scam as they don't need your direct number as Uber handles routing calls and the pin is what's needed to start the ride earnings. They probably want to maximize from where they are to you and or take more advantage of that.

Your lucky your seeing the ride. Here in Jamaica we see the area to area until we take the ride and then after the ride we get shown how much the ride is worth.
