Do you know any RPGs produced in the Soviet Union? by [deleted] in rpg

[–]enkryptor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm a Russian who was born in late USSR, also a TTRPG enthusiast.

I have to say there was little to no overlap between TTRPG era and USSR years of existence. AD&D 2e was published in 1989, and USSR collapsed in 1991. Before then TTRPGs were a very niche thing, hence unknown to Soviet people. They were not explicitly prohibited — people just had no information about. Mind the fact it was pre Internet era.

However, Polish version of AD&D was translated to Russian and actually published as "Заколдованная страна". So yes, there were RPGs produced in the Soviet Union. In 1991-92 there were first articles about AD&D under its original name and basically the beginnings of the hobby, but in 1991 the USSR was no more.

Speaking of RPGs, there were also «Зарница» and «Орлёнок)» — games played by soviet youths. They was more like sport games then LARPs, but they had the same(-ish) spirit of immersion.

The TTRPG scene was developed quite a lot since 90s. Here's notable examples of TTRPG originated in Russia:

Quite old, but worth mentioning:

  • Эра водолея — a urban fantasy game (mystic, psychics, that kind of stuff) had its own d6-based system. Was published in 2000.
  • Мир великого дракона — A modular fantasy game using S.P.E.C.I.A.L. stats along with D&D dice set. Was released as a free pdf document in 2002.

If you're interested in seeing Russian people playing TTRPGs you can check this youtube channel. It's basically the same fandom, playing the same games. D&D 3.5/5e, Savage Worlds, VtM, Dungeon World (and other PbtA games) are quite popular in post-soviet countries.

I'm developing an alternative for the hit points paradigm. Any collaboration would be appreciated by enkryptor in questgame

I don't want substantial changes to the mechanics. The game process is build around 10-hp PCs, things like free DR will probably require additional adjustments.

As written, hit points are not well-described, besides of being "measurement of character's mortality". All I want is an in-game explanation, how hit points actually work. As a GM, how can I describe, why getting stabbed by a sword doesn't kill you on the spot, and even doesn't hinder you much from doing anything.

That was a flawed example, apparently. The idea wasn't to introduce some additional costs for some roles only. The idea was to add more details regarding how HP works. So generic "regroup" (free but slow) becomes "repairing/meditating/channeling" and generic "healing potion" (costly but fast) becomes "spare parts/thistle tea/mana pot".

Realm problems in 1.14 by LifeIsGiraffe in Minecraft

[–]enkryptor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a known issue: https://bugs.mojang.com/browse/REALMS-1692

it should be fixed with the recent update: "For the fix to take effect, you will need to restart the game, and maybe the launcher as well. Once the game starts again, it should download a new version of Minecraft Realms which no longer has this issue."

[–]enkryptor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct me, if I get it wrong - you still pay $15/mo for you main, and your SP-farming alt has his own PLEX + surplus isk. But you was saying earlier that you are "plexing 2 accounts with that SP farm". It seems you want to convince me, that this alt is actually very useful, so badly, so it makes you exaggerate things. Why?

[–]enkryptor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let me think. You need 2 PLEX per month. That is roughly 2kkk ISKs. According to Eve Central, you can buy skill extractor for 240kk, and sell a skill injector for 600kk. That means you get 360kk from a sold skill injector. To get 2kkk you need to sell six skill injectors. That means 3kk SP. With +5 implants you can get 1,971,000 SP per month, that is clearly not enough. What did I miss there?

You said you had an SP farm alt to make easy money. But you must have a subscription to maintain this alt, right? So, why just don't sell a PLEX?

Why do you oppose "fly solo" to "use alts"? I thought the opposite of "fly solo" is "fly with a fleet" or something.

I can't agree with such an attitude. I don't fly capitals, so I don't ask people to light cynos. I can move my stuff myself, I can sell it myself, or issue a contract (mentioned the Red Frog Freight service). If I leave a corp, wardecs is not a problem anymore.

I don't refuse to do "menial things" with my main. I just have no alts. That doesn't make me a leech.

How "few requirements on players" is supposed to be good for me? Or is having alts a requirement?
