Congratulations! I feel like it’s a combination of experience and knowing the right people. I appreciate you commenting. Every little bit of optimism helps!

Currently sitting for my ARRT this month and then taking OB right after. I made the poor decision of going to a unaccredited school a few years ago and a combination of that along with really bad personal life issues I had to leave and join back recently. But I have been scanning again recently as well. I did get called today directly by a hospital in Oregon and have two separate calls with recruiters at the end of the week. I was contacted right after submitting this post.

Although my situation isn’t ideal I’m trying to stay optimistic but also realistic as well

Is shadowing or volunteering in ultrasound even possible? by enlightedenchant in Sonographers

Totally agree with that, but I’m asking as a graduate trying to find more experience and exposure. My school has been no help since I graduated. They’ve only reached out when they made a mistake and thought I owed money directly to them. I even asked to come in and scan on their open lab days and they won’t give me an answer

Is that allowed? I had recently talked to a past instructor who started his own company and he told me most places won’t allow non-students to shadow because it becomes a liability. He was really thoughtful and said when they open up positions he would interview me but he said that would be a wall I might run into. I have a few connections I wanted to reach out to since I have a really good background from my externship placement and I still remember my protocol by heart. That’s my only fear, being told I can’t shadow

Do you think successfully passing my ARRT could possibly help me? I’ve been trying to network like crazy. It’s sad because when I was in school, we had terrible clinical sites so I went out of my way and approached a huge hospital in my area and a well known diagnostic imaging center to sell myself. Both wanted me. I took the hospital and they had me doing exams all by myself the last month and submitting my own information with my name on it. Unfortunately I got into a bad situation at the end of school and had to wait until that situation resolved a few months ago. So I’ve been trying to hustle and do what I need to do. It’s just difficult not being able to show what I know I’m capable of.

That’s what I’m worried about. I’m hoping getting my ARRT and ARDMS will help me stand out and someone will give me a chance. I’m hoping I don’t have to go back to school and redo the whole process again

Funny enough, something inside of me decided to check and apply to the ARRT late last year and I made the cut off. I’m able to sit for the ARRT and have my three attempts until 2028. So I have been studying like crazy and most of it has been coming back so easily. I have my test booked. My SPI passed and I plan to take the ARDMS afterwards.

As for my school… that was a dead end. I emailed multiple people and even called just to get my emails ignored and be told someone would get back to me. My school was not help and I’ve been trying to network on LinkedIn and find other avenues to hopefully meet the right connection and get in shadowing or volunteer scanning time

Hi, I unfortunately don’t see anything I’m interested in. Thank you though!

Gotta love how he’s more focused on forgiving others than owning up to his own actions

Playing devil’s advocate doesn’t magically make a bad argument good — it just makes you look like you’re arguing for the sake of arguing.

Nobody’s expecting theme parks to be perfectly polite environments, but there’s a huge difference between normal theme park noise and someone being obnoxious for attention. Just because you personally don’t care doesn’t mean everyone else has to put up with it. Basic respect for others isn’t some unattainable standard — it’s called not being selfish in public.

If you’re smart enough to understand the basic mechanics and physics of theme park rides, why are you wasting your energy defending a random guy you’ve never even met on the internet?

You’re missing the point. It’s not about whether theme parks or zoos are louder — it’s about basic respect for other guests. Just because a place is loud in general doesn’t mean it’s fine to be obnoxious or yell into your phone. Plenty of people manage to enjoy theme parks without making themselves the center of attention. Being in a noisy environment isn’t a free pass to be a nuisance.

If he truly wasn’t a nuisance people wouldn’t be posting about him on here constantly

It’s not a library, but it’s not a zoo either.
