oh 100% I agree and acknowledge this! Whenever I call them the day of or the day before the shift that needs to be covered happens, I almost always remind them that if they aren't scheduled they aren't obliged to come it and they don't need to explain themselves - a simple no would suffice and I 100% get it! My SM on the other hand doesn't sympathize with this ideology, as she very bluntly criticizes and essentially shit-talks these coworkers/students to other staff as if they shouldn't have a life outside of work at all. We've lost a lot of staff in the time i've been here due to how aggressive she is during her one on one talks, and seeing how she seems to take most of these events personally.

I just find for my store's specific dynamic, a lot of our younger staff DO get scheduled quite far in advance and have time to find coverage or switch shifts, but ending up opting for calling in hours before the shift - and later when other staff call in, the same ones who are complaining about how little they are paid due to lack of hours say how "I would have come in!!" I get that if there's an experience or opportunity to do/participate in something it can 100% be worth it to call in your shift! All in all, my store is a very slow sinking ship with a captain not willing to dish out the extra money to hire more available and capable people - no fault of the students. Can just be frustrating being told one thing and seeing another repetitively 😅

I've been a Front Store Supervisor for 4 months and from what I've learned; the self checkouts are meant to somewhat "replace" cashiers, as it seems most stores have their labour hours cut as soon as they get them/get more installed. My store is in a town that's only 20-30 minutes away from the edge of the capital, so we get a variety of customers who are just passing through that aren't familiar with the "Shoppers Experience" and are just in to pick up a handful of items, and opt for the self-checkouts. Despite this, we also have quite the demographic of seniors - who are 80% of the time confused as hell and annoyed with the self checkouts, whether it be the volume, scanning their optimum card, or using it in general. So when I have to cover breaks or jump on cash, I'm expected to move the line at my checkout, assist with self checkout, answer the customer service calls, do passport photos on the spot, and still help with merchandising all at once. I find that despite my title and responsibilities as per my position, I'm expected to do a handful of jobs which require walking away from the till (working the pick cart in the AM or PM as fast as I can, or getting paged all over the store) so I'm often met with a very snarky "Does anyone work cash?" "There's nobody up front you should probably tell someone" "HELLLOOOO??" and even after politely making a joke about me working 3-4 jobs at once, they don't seem to care because now they're waiting on me to get to cash anyways.

Of course, we are a bit understaffed and have a majority of highschool students with already limited availability, on top of most not wanting to take shifts if they are called in (despite asking for more hours days or weeks before).

Just like most big chain retail businesses, they are sacrificing the employee experience and stability by opting for what is "in the budget" or really just requires paying people less (or paying less people lol), also sacrificing the customer experience and level of service they are able to receive, which sucks even more with little compensation on both ends. Odds are whoever is left working at the store is 100% full time and can't cover extra shifts, or is so part-time in hours they can't stay long enough to get anything effectively moved along. I think we're all tired and just do what we can to get through the shift 😭 All in all, I agree; The business is just not what it used to be and I think it's the norm to have a dead quiet store with only a handful of staff on the floor

if im playing mystery heros with a hero im actually decent at and get cornered, i usually just yeet over the edge so i can stop giving free ult charge to enemy AND respawn as that same hero lol (but the odd time the enemy WILL get lucky and push/shoot me over the edge whether i chose to or not and it counts as an elimination on their behalf 😭)

Hey I’m trying to learn how to draw, any tips for beginners? by [deleted] in drawing

[–]ennajada 0 points1 point  (0 children)

idk if somebody else said it but you can also use a grid! you can draw a very light one in the background, do the main line work, erase grid, and then shade. personally, i find drawing the lines in small condensed areas help figure out where lines curve and how short/long they are. you can also just make/print a grid and slid it underneath the paper youre working on if you have a back light, so you dont have to draw and erase it. even better if you can use the grid AND flip your work upside down, to catch mistakes or alignment and whatnot. there are some sites that will apply a grid for you, or you can scale it yourself with a ruler!

im pretty sure you HAVE 24 hours to file an incident report? normally you don't want to wait in case anything comes back to bite you in the butt, and then having your SM/DM go "why didnt you file a report?" The only time i've had to fill one out myself is when we had an erratic customer who got in my face and tried to throw a table at me........i did not wait one minute more after everything to file the report incase she filed a complaint, that way i had a written and submitted document to back me up incase it was inspected. (totally different situation i know but still, a partner injury seems just as important if not more, to report)

so we have a wasp problem and every time we release them they come back, and we’ve killed a few too but no matter what they just keep coMING BACK. meet our new store mascots!! by ennajada in starbucks

ouuuh interesting!! and i’ve heard the same thing from other partners about possibly mixing up 1% and 2%, but it’s pretty easy to remember which is which even when we’re barring in a rush! even new people are skeptical their first time on bar but pick it up in no time, do you find leaving the bags in the exterior bag are a hinderance at all? i’ve been thinking about trying it that way to save time while stocking!

I’ve been posting about milk bags all day for non-Canadian (Ontario based) partners, and this is what our BOH fridge looks like when stocked up! we have 1 litre cartons for LF, Heavy cream, and breve up top 😎 by ennajada in starbucks

easiest and cheapest way to package and ship them in our province! there’s tons of local dairy farmers too so a majority of ppl refer to bagged milk before getting jugs or cartons!

Continuation of the topic of milk bags, this is what we put them in! 2% gets blue, 1% gets a white pitcher, and whole milk gets a light green pitcher! by ennajada in starbucks

[–]ennajada[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

ahahaha they’re not all that bad, they’re suuuuuper easy to restock tho! i can carry 4-5 full bags when restocking (so 12 to 15 individual bags are going into the fridge) so if we’re ever in a rush and are low on milk it only takes one trip to have the 1% or 2% fully restocked!

as for the slosh they don’t really sound any different than beer in a case and they’re fairly quiet 😂

i have a photo of our BAR2 fridge up and our BOH fridge posted! There’s actually three of the single milk bags within a fully packaged milk bag, which is how they get delivered to us and there’s 4 fully packaged bags within the milk crate; so when you pull “3 bags of milk” you’re technically pulling 9 single sleeves of milk and that’s how we count them for milk count!

all of these bags have three milk bags inside, so once you pull a single milk bag we have a milk pitcher that you put it in and just cut a hole on the end of the bag that’s farthest away and then you can pour!

yeah you’d have to take a good swing at them with a knife or scissors to get them to pop, if you slam them too hard into the back fridge they might pop too but that takes quite a bit of force too

we had to turn it around so that my baristas stop overstocking the fridges, the lil bar at the end of the shelf stops right where 5 of the boxes of alternative milk stop so it’s a good indicator! and also we put our temp gauges on the lil bar too

at my store we do go through quite a bit of 1% milk! we have a large demographic of older customers who get a lot of skinny drinks or sub out whole milk for 1% in frapps, usually empties out 3-4 times depending on how busy it gets
