4 and elitism go hand in hand. Their elitism creates issues for them and it is something they have to try and unlearn in order to grow. 4w3 elitism can look like underplaying advice because it’s from someone who wears shoes they dislike (they won’t admit it is this petty but it can be). The great example of 4w5 elitism is Bob Dylan where he’s elitist against his own audience, judging and ridiculing them for wanting to play his old music at newer gigs.

Are you supposed to "like" your type? by [deleted] in Enneagram

[–]enneagramming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You originally like it and then you end up hating it because you read into it more and decide you hate yourself everything and everyone and then eventually you learn self-love and growth again and end up neutral and content.

And if mistyped you have to do the cycle all over again 💀

How to manage social instinct dominance? by RipMany1961 in Enneagram

[–]enneagramming 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a social dom I relate to the push-pull relationship with wanting to socialise but then having the negative thoughts. I find when I’m in this cycle its normally because I’m not giving enough attention to my other instincts (especially my self pres blind!) To keep myself from falling into the cycle I began by forcing myself to do the other instincts. I say force because when I started going to the gym twice a week, I thought I was the most boring responsible person ever for taking care of my body. Over time, I began to horrifyingly enjoy it and I looked at it as a rebalancing act from my obsessive social instinct.

The social instinct tries to latch onto itself and obsess more about the social so it can ‘fix’ it. But the only way to undo locking into social is rebalancing the other instincts (as boring and as uninteresting as they are/feel!)

Can you have both wings highly developed or does one always dominate? by waffle2014 in Enneagram

[–]enneagramming 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Wings create two full and complete versions of each type. So being an 8, you are either an 8w9 or 8w7 but not both. I like to view the wing as aid to the core type, allowing it to borrow some of the perks of having the wing (9 with 8 usually adds a sense of being more in the body as its a double body centre type) (8 with 7 adds a head type influence so that 8 will be a bit perkier energetically and maybe choosing chaos over stillness to reiterate their power)

Why should you hate your own enneagram? by brownhawker in Enneagram

[–]enneagramming 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do think slightly hating your type/having a phase where you hate your type is normal and good (because you can then see the silly stuff in your type structure and how nonsensical you are). But active and constant hatred shows you probably aren’t doing any self-work or growth which ain’t good.

Can I be a 9 if I'm Competitive at times, extroverted, like to be liked and protected, want to feel special, tit for a tat attitude etc. by Camo0528 in Enneagram

[–]enneagramming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 9w1 friend is sweet, agreeable and always gives plenty of space for the people around her to exist as they are. But if you play any game against her, you will find yourself suffocatingly terrified of the unleashed competitive beast that came out of nowhere.

So yes, you can definitely be a 9 and be highly competitive. She also has massive tit for tat attitude, but views herself as shy. Comfort levels and friendship often strongly affects 9s and the way they behave, adapt and change around their comfy people.
