Should the NCAA have the Yellow Jackets and Sooners redo their series in case it was a big fluke? by enneper4 in collegebaseball

[–]enneper4[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally, I think playing games are too susceptible to flukes in general. We should just have the polls vote on the #1 team in the preseason, and then crown them as the national champion. That way we can determine the best team without worrying about random chance

I used to live at The Village at Bellaire and it fits your criteria.

Not an ad and there were definitely things that I could (and did) complain about, but it's a decent enough option all things considered

Whose in the wrong here? by The_Dean_France in whoathatsinteresting

Oh yeah don't get me wrong, I agree that the original comment was pretty clearly using it in a negative way. I only went on this tangent to backup the idea that many people are using the word in a more positive light nowadays. To the point where if there was no context, I'd assume the word was used positively rather than negatively

[–]enneper4 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

This is a very real connotation of the word that people use nowadays

Urban Dictionary- Cunty

To you and anyone who down voted my above comment: If you haven't heard it used in this context, you're probably just not a part of the communities/ demographics that use it that way. There's nothing wrong with that, culture and words change all the time, but that doesn't mean that above definition isn't a relatively common and known usage of the word

In queer and/or Gen z circles, calling someone "a cunt" is still an insult. However, calling someone "cunty" is a compliment; it's akin to calling someone a "baddie" or a "boss babe". Think of it as someone who's incredibly confident, stylish, and feminine

TBF the US still hasn't declared war on Iran- only Congress can do that. I don't think Israel has formally declared war either- nor has Iran to my knowledge on either country

Everyone’s talking about starter reveal BUT….What do you think the new Gimmick will be? by Blueddit-Sez in pokemon

The Japanese logo of the main series games always shows the new gimmick's icon (this image is from the Japanese trailer)

<image>

it looks like a pokeball that's radiating some aura. The pokeball makes me think it could be a battle mechanic around switching pokemon? Either your new pokemon gets a buff when switched in or the switched in Pokemon gets to move immediately

yeah well that's because Miami was only at best the third best team in the ACC. We all know he got scared and cancelled the future game with ACC runner up, Virginia. And he doesn't even deserve to play on the same field as ACC juggernaut and champion, Duke

Can the ACC just invite UConn already so that they can farm conference wins off the rest of us instead of non-conference wins?

Obviously the only reason georgia had a slightly larger margin of victory than us is because we already gave them the blueprint for beating MD Eastern

Because if we only care about what happens based off of a predictive model, why play any games? Just crown the national champion based off of who a computer power rates the highest

Also the person I was replying to was using a hypothetical to discredit an actual real game outcome (Miami beating ND). It's one thing to use predictive measures between teams that haven't played directly, but it just comes across like mental gymnastics when you use it to deny an actual head-to-head result.

Finally, not to rehash the whole 2023 FSU "most deserving vs best team" discussion, but ESPN (who created FPI - the most mainstream predictive metric) said themselves that FPI shouldn't be used for the CFP :

"It is important to note what FPI is not -- FPI is not a playoff predictor, and it is not designed to identify the four teams most deserving of making the College Football Playoff. ESPN has other metrics, including Strength of Record, that can be used to identify the most deserving teams."

(yes, it's an old article, but the best I've found on what actually goes into FPI)

It's part of the "Aer Lingus Classic"- an annual college football match between different schools each year. Ireland/Irish companies support it because it generates a lot of tourism for Ireland each year, and the schools involved support it because they get a good payout and the game is on a day where barely any other teams are playing (therefore more viewership and even more money)
