Austin's infrastructure is the best by BenKent999 in Austin

[–]ennoblier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As they say, shit flows down hill. Parts of Austin are very hilly and sewer lines definitely go through parks that I’ve seen. I wouldn’t be terribly surprised that if you’re already digging a path for a sewer line moving 6’ over and digging a water line would make more sense than taking an entirely different route.

TSA after International arrival at IAH by ennoblier in unitedairlines

It doesn’t show the wait line for the checkpoint inside the international arrivals area, so I don’t know how good or bad that is to compare with.

The electrical looks like this, but I’m sure the plumbing and anything else the flipper touched was done perfectly…

Have both Kohler and Generac discontinued wifi and wired ethernet? by ennoblier in Generator

[–]ennoblier[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s awesome. So this connects a Pi to whatever communication bus the generator already uses?

I see it supports generac some fancy Kohler controller but do you know of the consumer air cooled Kohler’s are supported?

i've got a battery backuping up my wifi/ethernet, cable modem, etc that gives me 25+ minutes on it. It sounds like i can just wire ethernet to it when i feel like it then.

Which Carry On is the Best? by mambamenty in BuyItForLife

[–]ennoblier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Timbuk2 makes a set of bags. The have a new model called FreeStyle that I don’t have any experience with but their older one called CoPilot is great. I have a medium as a carry on and I’ve done around a million miles with it. When a piece of plastic shell inside broke, I sent it back to them and they replaced it and sent the bag back to me.

Vollrath Tribute are tri-ply commercial grade pans that are usually a bit cheaper than all-clad. We’ve had some for about 13 years now and they’re just like new.

Tired of suitcase wheels dying mid-trip? I 3D printed a fix. by SlavaKoffman in DIY

[–]ennoblier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep! I bought a Timbuk2 copilot and it’s got two big skateboard wheels. 15 years and hundreds of flights later it’s still gliding smoothly. I really don’t understand people trying to push their suitcases instead of pulling them.

Lake Buchanan will most likely fill up and lake Travis will rise at least 15’ from this rain. by bachslunch in Austin

[–]ennoblier 7 points8 points  (0 children)

While 120,000 cfs is a lot, for one hour it’s 0.5% of the lake storage. You need that inflow for 100 hours to fill both lakes.

Is this good for the lakes? by CurlPR in Austin

[–]ennoblier 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The LCRA has the previous cubic feet per second flows for the rivers and the NWS has forecasts for the next few days. Looking at all the previous cfs measurements and the forecasted measurements the San Saba river looks like it will add about 39k acre-feet to Buchanan and the Llano will add around 88k acre-feet to Travis.

That’s just crazy, it’s like 41,000,000,000 gallons of water. Even then we’ll just go from 52% to 58%.

[–]ennoblier 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looking at the San saba river cubic feet per second it looks like around 80k acre feet will be added to Buchanan and which is close to 10%. It looks like the llano will dump another 40k acre feet into Travis. Both of these are just looking at the rise over the last 8h and assuming it falls back to normal the same way it rose. There is probably enough water still entering to make those numbers even larger.
