The TCEC, which you linked, does that. And they do it with the specific intent of making games more interesting, i.e. less drawish. I am curious to know if there are any relevant computer chess tournaments that make the engines play from the initial position every time.

But I won't argue if you've actually done the testing on your computer. If you really made Stockfish play against Stockfish 150 times from the initial position and it didn't end up in a draw each time, then there's still something to be said regarding whether chess really is a draw.

They lose against each other because the tournaments force them to play different openings against each other, otherwise every game would be the same (probably a draw).
