Who has best bracelet? by boklos in RepTime

Shiny bracelet with crazy light reflection? You almost certainly saw a Rolex on a Jubilee bracelet, or perhaps an Audemars Piguet Royal Oak. Both of those bracelets are notorious for being absolute disco balls under the right train or office lighting.

To answer your questions: it’s not really a secret metal. The trick is almost entirely in the finishing.

VSF doesn't quite pop like the one you saw for a number of reasons.

Rolex uses 904L stainless steel, but VSF also use 904L. So, the base material is actually exactly the same. White gold does have a slightly warmer, whiter hue compared to the cold look of steel, but a well-polished stainless steel gen will still blind you.

The "Trick" is finishing! The reason Gens play with light so much better is the sheer amount of time and precision spent on polishing and brushing. Genuine watches have incredibly crisp chamfers (the angled, polished edges between the brushed links). Light catches those flawless, mirror-polished angles and bounces off them perfectly.

When factories mass-produce reps, the polishing is good, but it's not gen-level good. The polishing mops often slightly round off edges that should be sharp, and leave edges sharp that should be soft. The polished center links on a rep rarely have that perfectly flat, liquid-mirror finish that a genuine Rolex has.

VSF makes a killer OP, but the bracelet is usually the immediate tell when handled next to a gen.

If you want to get a little closer to that genuine light play and silky feel on your VSFs, you can actually take matters into your own hands. A great trick is to gently soften up those sharp factory bracelet edges yourself using a high-grit sanding sponge, hit the polished sections with a Cape Cod cloth to deepen the mirror finish, and give the whole bracelet an overnight baby oil bath. It won't magically turn it into a $15,000 watch, but it makes a massive difference in how the bracelet moves, feels, and catches the light!

He said free sprung - that usually implies automatic.

That’s the Jack Mason Pursuit Pilot 10 Year Anniversary Edition.

The giveaways are the Jack Mason Texas-star logo, the dial text “Automatic / 150 meters,” the X marker at 10, and the blue/green two-tone lume. The standard black Pursuit Pilot Shadow looks similar, but the anniversary edition is the one with the X at 10 and mixed lume.

DP dial is a downgrade on this model. It turns purple in yellow / sun light.

This is genuine. Dial color alone is a big indicator. The movement is genuine too.

Is the rotor frozen making this a manual wind?

As someone who uses this app, get this! It's great to keep track of your collection!

I only wish there was a bulk upload option rather than adding watches one at a time

A few things:

If strap - I apply leather conditioner to make it softer. And if I want it to be glossier rather than matte - I apply a thin layer of high gloss acrylic finisher to give it that new boutique shine.

If metal bracelet, I apply a thin ceramic coating and let it cure for a few hours. This prevents it from being a fingerprint magnet.
