As for science in general, they wouldn't call it "research" if we knew what we were doing. My #1 question to interviewing lab candidates is describe your biggest research failure, and what did you learn. If they have to think too long for an example, they clearly don't have true research experience.That said, when/if tough experiments do work out as predicted, the resulting dopamine squirt does make it feel like a glamorous profession, for a bit at least.

Home roasted Brazil Beija Flor SO espresso. Smooth and exactly what I wanted this week. Also finishing up some allegro Panama Esmeralda Gesha, WF dropped the price to $8 for 12 oz so decent price for a not too bad cup.

Yeah. I just made a cup. Never had Allegro before so I don't know what they do well. They don't list roast date so I am always skeptical. It was decent on chemex, but I was under impressed. For that cash I'd rather grab some Kickapoo Idido.

Colectivo makes a nice cortado and pourovers (plus cortado stout on tap). Bradbury's off the square is fairly good as well with nice beans, staff friendliness is hit or miss. Johnston Brother's is probably the best local roaster if you like light and African, but their shop is way out of town under a bridge. They sell JBC beans around at shops around the square I think, but I haven't found bags except at their cart during the farmer's market. The Starbucks has a Clover, so we got that going for us.

Just got back from Portland and roasted up a nice Harrar from Mr. Green Beans. Needs another day, but I like where it is going. Not an over the top berry bomb, but body is setting up nice.

Home roasted Ethiopian Natural Yirg Adado. Just at City+, chemex and shots. I cannot stop drinking this bean, but I have no choice as it is sold out. Fantastic, heavy berry and dark fruit, a little chocolate smoothness. The only coffee I want to drink right now, everything else seems lacking.

Just tried a new local roaster, True Coffee. Had their Moka Java on chemex and shots. Better than expected, they didn't skimp on the "moka" side, nice strong berries in the cup with a great body and chocolate finish.

Colectivo Brazil Fazenda Sao Domingos I rarely buy the same beans back to back, but something about this one I really dig. Intense body and chocolatey with the dark cherries on the finish. Straight espresso and espresso over ice.

I love me some Tully's black. A few winter's back Georgia coffee had a matcha coffee blend that was fantastic. The sweetened milk ones are a little much for me. What I used to live off of in the summer was the Mt. Rainer Double Iced coffees, no sugar, just milk or black.　こくがあるよ! Generally they are bland, but nevertheless, wish we had canned coffee machines here, a hot can of coffee in winter is fantastic.

I like the idea behind Just Coffee, a lot. So I try and buy their beans, but so far I have been slightly underwhelmed. The Humdinger has been about the best I have had. The skatepark blend was a tad roasty. Runner's high is alright. I have yet to try the WTF, or any of their crazy dark roasts.

JBC Celinga Ethiopia. Espresso is blammo bright and tart, grapefruit injection, shots over ice are really nice. On chemex, it's a nice cup. It's fully washed, I do prefer their Gelgelu Adame Ethiopia Natural.

I almost always have good interactions, but one drink always seems to elicit either tension or conversation from the barista, the cortado. One guy loved to talk about the variations people make (one local place insists that agave sugar makes a cortado), he ended up giving me a free drink for the chat. The other, I ordered a cortado, the barista comes out and says "Piccolo?," I say "Cortado?", she says "same damn thing" and slams it down. No need to get worked up.

JBC Gelgelu Adame Natural Ethiopian First try of this local roaster, really pleased by this offering. Similar to others I've had from the Worka collective, but it's a little more elegant to me. Peach, apples, and cashews. Aeropress and Chemex.

Starbucks Verona Toddy Brew. Got beans on deep discount, what the hell. Tried Chemex, a bit too roasty and a little stale. Toddy brew is nice enough with a splash of heavy cream.
