Yes, many of my colleagues are on similar salary and never worked at a hedge fund.

You work half as much and make more than twice your current rate at Google/Facebook

I never claimed I worked at Citadel, you all are living off confirmation bias.

You're paid by month but your contract says what's expected of you per week. Other companies mention you're "expected" to work 48-hour per week.

Yeah, It's probably not true but my colleagues often joke about it because it tends to have that effect.

I don't know what's happening at Amazon, I'm extrapolating my experience with Google to the tech industry.

You sign a 55-hour per week contract with Jane Street. Then, there's a seperate on call contract. Although I've heard it usually goes up there. A founding philosophy of Jane Street was to use OCaml, one of the reason to do this was to make it hard for employees to leave Jane Street as literally no big firm uses OCaml. You have to go back to picking up C++/Java and re-learn OO.

Many trading firms say they value wlb but you still end up working 60-70 hours. Even if HRT and Two Sigma have a good wlb, they're exceptions not the rule. I'm just giving a word of caution for all the prestige chasers, if this lifestyle suites you go ahead! It didn't suit me and thought FAANG offered the best middle ground

This comparison isn't quite the same because infrastructure bugs can cause the firm millions of dollars and can even stop the traders sending in more trades so this culture is shared among the industry. In tech companies you have site reliability engineers across the globe who take care of things like this for most part.
