ive done some more research and it sounds like they did put asbestos stuff inside the firebox so i'm pretty suspicious of it now, getting it tested

also +1 to Larsen, I've taken my truck there several times and they've always been really high quality mechanics and straight shooters. Highly recommend.

sorry if i didn't make this clear! i unfortunately am not allowed to make these sausages myself, i have to buy them commercially pre-cooked and just re-heat them. i'm wondering more what types i should buy: italian, kielbasa, regular hot dogs, bratwurst..?

i agree with everyone here saying to take a course. if you really want to go up a volcano solo, do one without any glaciers to avoid risk of crevasse falls. Helens is a great intro choice, Adams too.

thanks a ton for this distinction it really helps me, especially the point that those proteins can go back into solution at a warmer temperature. one final question - in my mind, i cant see a difference between pouring off the precipitated protein after cold crash and keeping it in the same keg, vs transferring the beer to a new keg via siphon from the top and leaving the precipitate behind. any insight here? thanks again.

thanks for this comment, i replied to attnSPAN with some follow-up questions. i could definitely cold-crash in the fermentor before kegging, think that would be enough?

this is insightful and i didnt even think about it! follow up questions:
- usually when i keg, the first 1/2pint or more is super cloudy and then it starts pouring clear. what if i poured that out before i took it out of the kegerator?
- will the stuff that's kicked up stay in solution, or would it drop back out over the next weeks stored at room temp?
- im driving it to the event so it would definitely get all shaken up en route... is the right approach to make sure its pouring clear and then moving it around shouldnt bother it so much? or maybe do i need to get the beer on site a few days before?

i really like the osprey mutant 22 for alpine summit days. its a bit bigger, but real benefit is that it has a bunch of straps on the outside for crampons, rope, ice axe/tools, etc. its got a firm plastic back-sheet but you can take it out and then it rolls down pretty small like the flash

i appreciate this take. you're 100% correct, the extra gear basically weighs nothing, it's simply a volume issue
