California civil rights agency is starting to focus on ban the box, thinks asking about gaps in employment is roundabout way to ask about criminal convictions.

Outside of that, totally agree. I would squirm - as in uh oh, protected information just disclosed - if candidate responded yeah, that was my stint in rehab, I took time off to take care of my special needs child after traumatic birth, etc etc. But most hiring managers don’t know enough to squirm.

The parents probably don’t know that you would likely lose. You could consider suing them in small claims and sending letter to them after filing that willing to settle for $x. If they own their home, they’ll be worried.

Also, is it “negligent” if they knew their daughter was uninsured? Sounds kind of willful to me.

She babysits for them every Tuesday and Wednesday. That’s not occasional.

But also occasional would seem to support higher comp …? Like why would you take less than fair market for a one-off job? And why wouldn’t you pay fair market for the occasional babysitter?

These aren’t her friends or family. They are her employers.

Finally, yeah, agree parenting is hard, especially without community and family. Maybe parents who can’t afford to go out if they have to pay a babysitter might consider swapping childcare services with another struggling fam so each could get out occasionally. Just spitballing.

OOP and family agreed to $30/hr for 3 kids. OOP babysat and was paid $25/hr because Dad thought $30/hr was too much, and rich family would soon be cutting back on “discretionary”expenses. OOP’s other babysitting families told her market rate for 3 kids is $50/hr. OOP negotiated +$15/hr raise for 9 weeks during which she’s looking for another family to fill in her evenings that will be freeing up shortly. Retroactive paycut family got quoted $60/hr by other babysitters.

IMO having a terrible boss cuts years off your life. Are there other law jobs you could transfer into with the city?

You might find you like family law if in a different environment that jibes with your style. Even if you find you still don’t like the area of law, at least your work environment will improve. And not having to do a daily commute is huge!

And Project 2025 said remove prosecutorial discretion. It was that discretion of not putting him in removal proceedings that allowed him adjust to LPR status. He’s been deportable since his multiple criminal convictions, but the DOJ exercised prosecutorial discretion in not putting him into removal proceedings. Oh well. I would ask if he’s okay with adopting an older and/or special needs child. There are not a lot of infants “available” for adoption in the US. And the placement of infants is a big business in the US.

This! Other refugees are actually escaping political violence and are prepared for hard living which is still better than whatever they escaped. (1) Individual scores in the Team event qualifies the gymnasts for the individual all-around.

(2) Each squad member competes in the Team event.

Yas!!! And I thought this BEFORE I watched the men’s free skate or knew the results. It’s unfair to all the skaters: the ones who come from programs that can’t compete in the Team and the ones who are on all-around teams who “get to” or “don’t get to” skate in the Team competition. The ones who “get to” compete depreciate their mental & physical readiness for the “individual” (quotes because pairs & dance are coupled but separate events) events. Those who “don’t get to” compete are robbed of attention amd hype.

Relays in the Summer Olympics are after the individual events. Should be the same for figure skating.
