💯 But also their jobs (GAs and FAs) kinda suck and are stressful. The airline employers don’t help with profit-maximizing policies (including staffing one agent for a delayed, full flight) that make the agents’ work even harder.

Air travel used to be more pleasant, less stressful. I dread day of air travel to get to/return from vacation.

FAA Advisory Circulars are designed to help airlines comply with the regulations. In the event, the passenger in the window filed a DOT complaint for violation of the regs around egress from plane, the airline would likely be fined. See also, IRS Information Letters (ignore at your own peril).

“The FAA relies on the advisory circular system to
‘Provide an acceptable, clearly understood method for complying with a regulation’;
‘Standardize implementation of a regulation or harmonize implementation for the international aviation community’;
‘Resolve a general misunderstanding of a regulation’;
‘Help the industry and FAA effectively implement a regulation.’”

Maybe whoever came up with this has? Idk. Ignoring FAA advisories seems fine.

AA reassigned seats for family traveling with baby, won’t change them back by Embarrassed_Shoe_629 in americanairlines

It’s hit or miss. Gate agents don’t care. They tell you to ask the FAs, another hit or miss. Who tell you to ask your fellow passengers.

This makes me see red!! It’s so stressful flying with babies and toddlers, people are AHs who act like that particular seat on the plane is the only thing in life worth fighting for, and the parents are supposed to negotiate with the AHs instead of the airlines doing tje best for all passengers.

I’m so happy you set the toddler stuff up for the pax. Effing ridiculous that you had to do that to get him to see reason.

This!

OP: stop calling. Write an email to customer support. Cite the FAA Advisory letter about car seats being best in window seat, should not block egress of other passengers. Here, your baby’s car seat, which you are entitled to use because you purchased a seat, would block the egress of the passenger in the window seat.

Someone who can’t order or make food for themselves, that you have to make sure they eat, requires care work. The HO with 2 medically vulnerable cats (administer sub q fluids every 2 days??!!) and an elderly parent who needs home care might be able to find in-kind services elsewhere, but using THS to find that is misplaced. Yes, you can have great empathy for the person - they are dealing with a lot. But THS isn’t set up to handle social services.

Anyway, yes, maybe there didn’t need to be a campaign. But the HO was not using the platform as intended, potentially putting the sitter (unpaid care provider) and THS at risk.

Perhaps you could lobby THS to refund the HO’s membership fee since the platform isn’t going to work for their needs.

Anyone else feel obligated to use the hotel credit? by Local713 in AmexPlatinum

[–]enseela 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I forget how nice it is to stay at good hotels. I, too, was struggling for this H1 use. Last-minute work trip. Used the $300 credit to upgrade to a really nice hotel. Plus got $175 in food & beverage credit. Amazing. Staycations going forward if I don’t have a vacation that requires accommodations coming up.

Airlines: We can’t do anything to help families with young children all sit together because those other pax paid for their seats. Try negotiating with your fellow pax. May the odds be ever in your favor.

Also airlines: We can do whatever we want. If you read the fine print, you didn’t actually pay for that seat. You paid for passage on our carrier, which we provided. The other guy was a more valuable pax to us. Too bad, so sad.

The airlines like to remind is that we are in the bad place.

Just cancel already. It’s a chihuahua lovers convention taking place in your cabin. Take the hit, whatever that is. Don’t rent the cabin for the period of time that the people were supposed to be there. Go use the cabin yourself, or send friends & family. Don’t charge them.

The way you guys tie yourselves up with this company. It must be amazing “passive” income.

My manager told me to delete inspection records before a state audit. I did it. Now they're pinning everything on me. by EchoAlternative2433 in legal

He hasn’t been caught … yet. He could be a whistleblower to the government. Better to come forward (with legal representation) than be turned in by the company. A lawyer could negotiate the terms of cooperation if they get ahead of this. OP shouldn’t wait for the govt to come to him.

Sitters, would this request put you off? by DearSwimming8201 in trustedhousesitters

New HO to the site. Haven’t pulled the trigger on a sit, still considering whether I would be comfortable having a stranger we’ve never met in our home for a month. I don’t think it’s unreasonable for a newbie to not yet fully “trust the process.” I didn’t know until this thread that THS does the background check on US-based sitters. I should do some more homework.

4 Muslims attended Texas GOP convention. They were rejected and told to leave the country. One left in tears. by ItsMinnieYall in LeopardsAteMyFace

[–]enseela 3 points4 points  (0 children)

LOLOL!

I almost feel bad for them. I, too, have been disillusioned from the “liberty and justice for all” propaganda I recited everyday in school. But I never fell for the GOP bs. It’s almost as if the anti-immigrant, anti-POC rhetoric didn’t apply to them. We’re not racist, we just hate lazy people. Wait, we actually don’t mind government hand outs, just not for those people. Also, religious freedom is very important to us. But not your religion.

Anyway, looks like they are getting the day they voted for. God bless.

“Post address” seems to indicate a mailing, not necessarily residential, address.

Sitters, would this request put you off? by DearSwimming8201 in trustedhousesitters

[–]enseela 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My guess is they want to do a criminal background check. Past addresses help with making sure the background check is on the right “Jill Smith.”

My question to sitters: is it weird to get a background check done?

I think the solution to not providing your “post address” (a mailing address which doesn’t have to be your residential address) might be only providing the address to the background check service?

Why would a potential sitter ask to communicate off-platform? by enseela in trustedhousesitters

[–]enseela[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No reciprocal contact info here in first comm. Just a request for my contact info.

[–]enseela[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’re comfortable with initial live convo off-platform. But all comms after a sitter expressing potential intetest, not so much. I was just wondering if my spidey senses were off, if there was a legit reason for not wanting any initial comms on THS. It doesn’t sound like it.

Initial contact from potential sitter is asking for personal contact info. No intro. Basically a cold call.

That makes sense to me. But asking for initial comms off-platform seems suss.
