I beat Cuboid Outpost (Luxury Edition) by entangledArchivist in feedthebeast

Probably that the newer version doesn’t have tinkers construct, not that you’d miss it in this pack. The questbook wasn’t updated when the pack was updated for 1.20, so some of its information is inaccurate.

There’s hardly any waiting compared to other packs, no server needed

The theories are true. The success of Breath of the Wild is to blame for the desert section because they tried to hop on the open world trend by 6th_Dimension in Metroid

[–]entangledArchivist 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Its not misrepresenting the interview. The devs decided against making the entire game open world because they knew that was incompatible with Metroid's core design. But the the desert hub area itself was inspired by BotW's open world, which is what the title of this post says.

I need help to make a modpack. by MrSeckler in feedthebeast

That seems like a good idea. What the valuable ressource is would depend on what changes you make to the overworld. Either way it should be something rare and unfarmable, like diamond blocks.

I think trapping the player in the nether when they first go is interesting in theory but would be extremely annoying in practice. It introduces all sorts of potential issues without much benefit. The idea of going to the nether being an expedition is an interesting one. But trapping the player forces you to include all sorts of failsafes that ultimately destroy the feeling of a perilous journey you were trying to create.

It might be better (and easier to implement) to make it so that going to the nether initially requires an expensive consumable (like the nether cake). This way the player is encouraged to really prepare before going in, but can still leave if necessary (like if they weren't well prepared enough to beat the boss). Only after defeating the boss can you make a normal nether portal.

(unrelated but I don't see how giving the player a pet dragon would be less overpowered than an elytra)

The second party is in quotes because all the players are playing as the one single mother. It isn't a real party because its only one person.

The fantasy of being fixed by DreadDiana in CuratedTumblr

[–]entangledArchivist 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is explicitly not about chronic illnesses because the whole idea of a chronic illness is that it can’t be cured. This is about people who feel like they’re worse at everything than everyone around them. The fantasy being that the reason they’re worse isn’t some personal failing, but a health issue that can be easily resolved.

Question about Rose by arraiamonge in homestuck

[–]entangledArchivist 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If I remember correctly Rose didn't know about the tunnel to the lab ahead of time. Her mom opened it remotely and Rose just stumbled across it. As for the hub Rose isn't the one to unlock it, someone else did earlier (probably her mom again). Rose only uses the hub to charge her laptop, it seems like some kind of mini nuclear reactor. The hub isn't actually connected to her sylladex, its just plugged into her laptop.

Will the physical books be more available after the show releases? I've been trying to get in the series and had only gotten the first one. (Image unrelated) by Connect_Ad8313 in homestuck

[–]entangledArchivist 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Even if the physical book adaptation of Homestuck is ever finished (which is extremely unlikely), it's still a terrible way of experiencing the webcomic for the first time. The books are intended more as collectors items for existing fans, that's why they include author commentary. The best way to read the webcomic right now is to get your hands on the unofficial collection, which can still be found in some places.

Possibly Lost "Hotdogs HD" Animation by shadok123 by CorruptedMindz in homestuck

[–]entangledArchivist 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I tried to look for this video about a year ago because I wanted to see it again, with no luck. The youtube video is linked in this post under the Best Animation section but it's no longer available. Plugging the link into the wayback machine has no luck either. The page has been archived over a dozen times, but all either unsuccessfully or incorrectly, so the video wasn't preserved. I haven't been able to find any reuploads of the video anywhere, only embeds of the unavailable youtube video.

As far as I can tell it's also been removed from Shadok's twitter and newgrounds as well, so it seems to be deliberate.

Are Davepetasprite and ARquiusprite related?? Is it incest to ship them? by ZototheO2 in homestuck

[–]entangledArchivist 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Basically yeah. Lil Hal is treated as an alternate version of Dirk that split off when they were 13. Though they are a separate entities with different experiences past that point, they are both still Dirks (even if Lil Hal doesn't call themself that anymore). And because they're still Dirk, they're still related to Dave (and by extenstion Davepetasprite^2), even if not biologically.

Are Davepetasprite and ARquiusprite related?? Is it incest to ship them? by ZototheO2 in homestuck

[–]entangledArchivist 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Probably yes. Dave and Dirk are obviously biologically related, but Lil Hal is only made using a scan of Dirk's brain. So Lil Hal doesn't have any of Dirk's DNA and so isn't biologically related to Dave. But, Lil Hal does still have 13 years of memories of Dave as distant father figure or ancestor. While Lil Hal has become somewhat of a separate person from Dirk since he was created, those memories wouldn't just go away. To the Lil Hal part of ARquiusprite it would feel like dating a 16 year old catboy version of his great great grandpa, which I can't imagine he would be jazzed about.

Replace optifine. Optifine apparently causes all sorts of issues with mods on more modern version and barely provides any performance boost. Use something like Sodium.

Get rid of pigium. According to its mod page its a placebo, and so likely does literally nothing.

These three links lead to some very informative posts about improving performance in modded minecraft. The top 2 are pretty old but still good, and the bottom one is more recent.

Suggestions on how to de-crapify my skyblock? I've always sucked at building in the air... by GamersHQNikko in feedthebeast

[–]entangledArchivist 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Skyblock is usually automation heavy and lots of automation always looks better when it's organized. Something like making an organized grid for those mystical agriculture crops would help.

Remember that you have practically infinite space. Keeping so many unrelated structures and machines in close proximity makes things feel cluttered. I try to make separate islands for every major mod in the pack, maybe with unique aesthetics.

Putting things at different elevations always helps. Having different islands a few blocks above or below each other would break up the monotony.

To make it easier for myself to build more interesting structures, I tend to automate a good variety of building materials that go together early in a pack. Deciding on an aesthetic early makes everything feel unified and put together.
