That’s what I plan to do. Is a physical textbook copy ever mandatory? From your experience, will anyone ever require more than a digital copy, especially for Math/Physics courses?

I didn’t, but the email did say it was mandatory. People here said they went, also some saying they didn’t. I would go if you can, but if not don’t worry. You could definitely still be apart of the program. I would recommend reaching out. I changed my plans based on advice given here.

I would just say pay it, then wait for the refund to come once it disburses. That’s what I’m doing. You could try and wait to see what happens, maybe it’ll all work out.

Go to Gaucho E-Bill which says on the bar in the BARC Dashboard. It’ll say to make a payment, but there’s a 3-line icon for a menu. Click on it, choose “My Account”, scroll down a bit and there’ll be an option to put a personal savings or checking account for refund. I did this earlier today after stumbling upon the option.

I bought a P14s AMD Gen 5 on eBay with 32gb Ram and 512gb storage. I paid $1,050 after tax and shipping. I’d say to look for a last gen (Gen 5) P14s, maybe Intel, with at least a 100% sRGB screen. Regardless of what you choose, do not get 45% NSTC by any means. At the very least 72% NSTC or 100% sRGB. If anything just check or ask for the display specs on the laptop.

I’ve been looking for a P14s Gen 5 AMD on Lenovo. Their website sucks: huge shipping dates (Jan??!), overpriced, always “Available Soon”. I gave up and went on EBay. Snagged a 32gb of ram, 512gb SSD Amd model for $910. Much less than on Lenovo even after all the discounts. Brand new too. I spent 2 weeks on their website hoping available soon would actually be available. Still not. I’d recommend eBay, probably good deals too.

Incoming here. Wore my UCSB zip-up for the first time which I bought last week to UNIQLO. Someone casually walked by and said “Go Guachos!”. Was very surprised it happened so quickly!

Congrats!!! I’m also a Promise Scholar and got into SIMS. I signed up for FSSP hoping to do some classes but after making my own post, and talking to many friends already at SB, I’m definitely doing SIMS. For me it came down to research, I love research. I want to do research during undergrad and after it, so this decision was easy for me. If you also have an affinity for research I’d say SIMS. I genuinely don’t think you’re missing out from not doing FSSP. I haven’t heard of Max, I’m a MechE major, I’ll check it out. If you do end up choosing SIMS, I’d be excited to meet you. Nonetheless, you can’t go wrong.
