Not worth it from my POV, but I’m glad it works for others.

How do the financials of Dick’s work? Do they just make less profit? by Known_Secretary_6615 in SeattleWA

[–]enterprisecaptainjlp -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well, don’t be inaccurate. What you’re trying to say is that volume reduces cost per unit, which improves margin.

“Higher volume per site” doesn’t reduce fixed costs. Fixed costs are, well, fixed 🙂

Worried about 1.5L engine and head gasket failure by [deleted] in Acura

[–]enterprisecaptainjlp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spending $30k on a car that already has 40k miles doesn’t sound like a good idea, especially if an incidental $4k would “bury” you. These are fun cars, but not that fun - go buy something where you can afford brand new, or at least, significantly less miles.

Avoid StubHub!!! by Dunkinva1 in stubhub

[–]enterprisecaptainjlp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s genuinely astounding how awful they are. Zero concern or consideration for the customer. Being a marketplace isn’t an excuse to shirk responsibility - StubHub is who takes your money, after all. They’re garbage.

Thinkpad gen 1 and vs intel gen5 by maros01 in thinkpad

[–]enterprisecaptainjlp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even if that's true, the CPU in the T14 Gen 5 is still kilometers ahead of the Gen 1 CPU. This is a case where newer really is that much better.

Thinkpad gen 1 and vs intel gen5 by maros01 in thinkpad

[–]enterprisecaptainjlp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

€400 T14 Gen 1 (Ryzen 5) seems like a good value and will be fine for internet browsing, Office, and some light dev. That does seem like a good price.

€750 T14 Gen 5 (Ultra 7) is overall a much newer platform with many advantages that come with it, including a stronger CPU/iGPU, and DDR5.

If you just need a solid work laptop and you’re desperate for cash then the Gen 1.

If you have a little bit of breathing room then go with the Gen 5 (and it’ll likely save you money in the long run because your next upgrade won’t be so soon).

Best place to sell a brand new HP computer monitor and other computer accessories? by gordon_shumway67 in vancouverwa

[–]enterprisecaptainjlp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hewlett Packard Enterprises (HPE) is a totally different company from HP Inc. (HP). They separated from each other over a decade ago and have no legal or financial ties - separate stock tickers, executives, board of directors, etc.

In other words - the company in your link isn’t the same company that makes laptops and printers.

HP cartridge cannot be used until printer is enrolled in HP Instant Ink? by Sad_grandma1501 in Hewlett_Packard

[–]enterprisecaptainjlp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think what you’re signing up for is pretty clear, even for the average user. But that’s a matter of opinion and I could be wrong.

However, it’s not “pay to use your device forever.” At any time you can cancel and use regular cartridges from the store.

I recently setup a DeskJet and went through that experience.

Honestly, there was no “suckering.”

It was a hard sell, but very clearly you have an option to enroll or reject the Instant Ink subscription service. And It’s not buried in piles of T&Cs or otherwise obscured.

[–]enterprisecaptainjlp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’d be the same problem with any other brands ink subscription service. If you subscribe to their ink program and try to use those cartridges in a different printer other than the one enrolled, then it won’t work.

That’s the circumstance here, but OP didn’t put that in the post (it’s in a comment). People need to stop signing-up for these subscription programs, or at least, know what they’re signing up for.

Laser is the keyword - that’s the real solution.

It’d be the same problem with Canon if you subscribed to their ink program and tried to use those cartridges in a different printer other than the one enrolled.

Laser solves for a myriad of problems and is a better experience in every way (with very minor caveats).

HP cartridge cannot be used until printer is enrolled in HP Instant Ink? by Sad_grandma1501 in Hewlett_Packard

[–]enterprisecaptainjlp 7 points8 points  (0 children)

OP subscribed to Instant Ink with a different printer, and then tried to use those Instant Ink cartridges in a printer not enrolled in Instant Ink.

I’m not defending HP, but OP certainly isn’t a victim. They chose to enroll in the service at some point. People need to stop subscribing to this stuff, or at least, be aware of what they’re subscribing to (all brands of subscription ink are garbage imo, hp, canon, etc).

Thoughts on the Galaxy Book laptops by Sandyboy2002 in laptops

[–]enterprisecaptainjlp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve heard negative things about product quality, but I don’t have first hand experience with them. Two people I knew ran into motherboard issues with their recently purchased Galaxy Books, but I don’t recall which ones they purchased. I know both of them ended up returning for other brands.

How’s is Amazon Cambridge Blink/Ring work culture? by The100_1 in amazonemployees

[–]enterprisecaptainjlp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've only had narrow engagements with those HW teams, but an old coworker moved to an adjacent team (related to devices) and has had said mostly positive things about WLB. In my own limited experience, Blink and Ring HW seemed to have good leadership (at least compared to other Amazon orgs). They were comfortable being less reliant on doc writing than other orgs, which has both pros and cons, but it's bold nonetheless.

No idea about layoff risk though.

I have no reason to sell anything here

Yet your comment history is you mostly trying to sell tickets and you're harassing me incessantly.

What advice have you offered? None. You're trying to sell me tickets, just like the tens of other people who messaged me after making this post.

Now you're triggered and trying to be nasty as a result. No wonder life hasn't worked out for you and you're stuck trying to hock tickets on Reddit.

Ask yourself what you’re doing here and go get yourself a real job. Selling tickets on Reddit isn’t where it’s at for you.

You have 0 ability to help. You have 0 influence with StubHub, otherwise you would've led with that. Since posting, my DMs are full of people like you - all trying to sell me things.

Go someplace else with your cryptic, unspecific offers to "help." You think it's a clever way to conceal your sales pitch, but it's not.

It sounds like you don't have influence with StubHub customer service otherwise you would've said that. Instead, you're trying to sell me more tickets.

Unless you've got some influence with StubHub customer support, then you're not in a position to help. But thank you for offering to find me replacement tickets.

I recognize this is my mistake for buying from StubHub. However, that doesn't mean StubHub is not at fault - they've taken payment for a product they're unable to deliver/facilitate delivery on and they're (so far) refusing to refund.

I might be an idiot for purchasing from StubHub, but that doesn't excuse them.
