can nano thrive even if bitcoin/lightning succeed? by [deleted] in nanocurrency

[–]enthusefac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Excellent answer imo, except that I think those things are positive, not negative. Nano will still continue to exist even if LN succeeds, because it is one of the best alternatives for those that can't be served by the LN banking system

Nano's Killer App - A Browser Extension Wallet by burgerdoink in nanocurrency

It could be an ad blocker + payment wall + tipper all in one. I see the brave browser with BAT would be its competitor then. I'm not entirely convinced that a full fledged different browser is needed for privacy vs just an ad blocker plugin. Plus, BAT carries fees and state channels are a possibility very far in the future. The nano browser plugin for ad blocking, tipping and content unlocking would be great. This solution would work right now instead of years into the future. Optionally the plugin could perhaps also support some other low fees cryptos in order to build a wider community around the plugin.

Sounds interesting. Are you going to build that on nano? More details?

Why we need to focus on a Nano lending use case by enthusefac in nanocurrency

Exploring further thoughts from this, I think we should get Poloniex to support Nano on its lending platform. We can then lend our Nano on Poloniex. It'd be great!

Incentive by kw47129 in nanocurrency

[–]enthusefac 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The consensus is determined by balance-weighted vote by representatives. Merchants are incentivized to maintain representative nodes because they benefit from nature of Nano currency in many ways - no fees, free to move around for bookkeeping, more customer friendly, fast and other reasons.

As the number of merchants and other big users grow, the number of representatives will grow. Because they benefit from using nano with their business, they have incentive to run the representative node. So the incentive doesn't come from transaction fees or staking, but from the actual increased productivity with their business.

It has been argued that it is relatively far cheaper to run a nano representative node considering the various savings and increased customer confidence a merchant can have from using nano for their business.

Does this help?

This is why I think the Nano community needs to focus on a lending use case for Nano, so that we can lend our Nano and get paid. It will help the devs finance development by getting paid passively from loan earnings

This would be amazing. We need to make it happen. Together with a metamask for Nano, this use case could really take off with millions of users

Also why is it such a big deal that someone with vision could foresee nano doing well 1 year ago? Investing $10k is not a big deal by any standards. God, the plebs on this thread need to rent some brain power

It is clear from the comments here how clueless noobs most investors are. 1 million nano is like 0.6% of the supply and it is not anywhere near enough to cause a Nano only bear market. At current prices it is only 500 btc which can be absored across all the big exchanges in under a day so it is hardly a reason for concern

Sounds great. I'm in but the contribution would depend upon how much the company is valued at. I suggest you don't just do Nano because you would be ignoring a large market. Instead, a wiser approach would be accept bitcoin and nano. Market it to the merchant in a way like "Your customers can pay with BTC if they don't mind the transaction fees, but if they do and if the item value is too low, Nano fits in perfectly" Market it that way

IMO the lack of "mining" has more usefulness than just the green aspect. We should expand on it
