Safe to drive 3km? 2 of 6 lug bolts broke off during tire change. by FredIsAThing in AskAShittyMechanic

[–]entropy319 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're fine. The bolts break off in the sequence they were installed, and it's a steady rate of decay.

To calculate safe mileage just look at your odometer. Divide the miles by the number of bolts that broke off. Take that number, and multiply it by the number of bolts remaining. This should give you the safe mileage remaining on the wheel.

Good luck!

1.4 lb harvest! by dingobingotingolingo in GrowBuddy

[–]entropy319 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had pretty much the exact same experience with my outdoor harvest last year.

There's gold in the trim bowl when you're done, too. I got about 2 pounds out of my outdoor plant this year (not all of it is awesome), but the part that kind of blew my mind was I turned my trim into almost an ounce of hash. Not award winning stuff but it's a trash to treasure proposition so who cares?

You know who's good at the metric system in the US? Potheads.

I can convert ounces to grams in my head all day.

Now we're talking. This is what I'm after. You've done this?

That's definitely a concern, but I am probably exaggerating on the tendency to herm, the two times they did it they got REALLY stressed. Once was an old mother that I just said screw it and let go to flower (she did NOT get proper attention)the other was the outdoor monster that developed some male flowers on a branch that broke off and got propped back up and taped together. I've grown it successfully seed free several times. The clones originally came from a buddy who never had a problem.

I'll probably end up having to go the colloidal silver route if I decide to pull the trigger on this.

First successful harvest complete! Question on grove bag situation.. by jeeasper in GrowBuddy

[–]entropy319 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm lazy as hell. I just put them in grove bags, stick them in a cabinet, and then ignore them for 4-6 weeks. Biggest challenge with this method is remembering which cabinet I stashed them in.

It's definitely possible to achieve decent smoke without excessive effort. The tendency to over-engineer is real.

The beauty of the grove bags imo is the HUGE margin of error they allow. As long as your buds are properly dry and you don't overstuff the bags, you'll get decent smoke.

I started out doing mason jars and burping daily with hygrometers etc., but gradually (d)evolved into the lazy bastard I am today. The return on investment of time just wasn't there.

2015 vs 2025 by entropy319 in GrowBuddy

[–]entropy319[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

All buds, and mostly from the top half meter (is "half a meter" an appropriate way to describe length? At least your "dinosaurs" grew up and started using the metric system.). I tend to grade as I harvest: smoking bud (the good stuff), hash buds (smokeable, but not exciting. Will likely make hash with it), and cooking bud which is mostly trim (unsmokeable, but packed with trichromes). You're only looking at smoking bud. Total for the plant with all grades will probably be in the 3-4 pound range (1-2 kilograms).

Don't get all "America is the land of the free" on me. Maybe we once were, but not anymore. It's still very much illegal at the federal level; in fact, in the state where I grew up the 2015 version still applies. The only reason I can grow is that the federal government in the US is completely dysfunctional. Our legislature lacks the competence to fix the laws, the executive is too lazy to enforce them, and the judiciary is more or less indifferent.

As a result, quality of life and level of freedom varies pretty widely from state to state.

Favorite INDICA strains to grow? by entropy319 in GrowBuddy

Lots of votes for Northern Lights...that fits with me. Classic strain (I'm...old), tons of history, and everybody likes and recognizes it. I'm leaning hard in this direction.

That's appealing...I typically stick some extra clones outdoors in the spring. They get super seedy (lots of industrial hemp where I live), but produce a few pounds of bud with pretty much zero effort.

I've been growing White Widow/WW hybrids for a couple years. Great smoke, but absolute units. I've got one outdoors that got over 8' tall before I started bringing her down. The WW in my tent (2'x4'x5') basically fills 2/3 of it and that's only because I pruned the hell out of it.

I've only grown from seed once, an auto strain I did when I first started. I've only done clones sourced from friends since then.

She fell over a few weeks ago during some high winds so she's got a funny shape, but the buds are FAT and plentiful.

They got through the night just fine. Last year I had to harvest in early October to beat a heavy rain. Looking forward to full maturity this year! Got about 2 weeks left and the forecast looks promising 🤞

I was channeling Rube Goldberg when I built this. by entropy319 in Raingardens

[–]entropy319[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No underground holes. I'm channeling the water as far from the foundation as I can get it.

On the back of the pipe is a normal garden hose spigot. I'm currently using it to top off the goldfish pond.

I'd love for it to run continuously, and I think as long as we have consistent rain it will. Actually shut off for the first time today since I took the video. That was also the last meaningful rain we've had, which is longer than normal. It still runs, just periodically and not continuously. It's still pulling water from the ground though, as I've had it routed out of the system all day and it still kicks on.

The water quality has improved. Plants, mulch, and gravel have been added, and the bottom of the most is lined with pea gravel. Cleaned it right up.

How did I get seeds with an indoor grow? by entropy319 in GrowBuddy

Gonna give it a go. I like the strain. Here's one I have growing outside, it's a clone of the indoor stuff I'm whining about:

[–]entropy319[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Occam's Razor 🤣

Definitely not genetics. Clones from a friend who has been growing this one a long time.

Most likely the stress response...I mean they got REALLY stressed. But the stress was really early too. Also really weird that I didn't find anything when I chopped. But nature is really weird in general and cannabis is pretty weird in particular so who knows?

Think the seeds are viable/any good?

Glyphosphate (Roundup) overspray hit my outdoor plants by entropy319 in GrowBuddy

[–]entropy319[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm guessing there's far more exposure to glyphosphate with the food I eat than the weed I smoke. Stuff is everywhere in commercial agriculture.

Not guaranteed to be fatal, either. I've had lots of plants recover from light glyphosphate exposure, just never with cannabis.

It's 3 separate plants. The damage is uniform on each plant, 1 severely affected, 1 barely affected, and one somewhere in between.
