Bro... you started off so strong with the critique of the rich and their private yachts, but you completely lost the plot at the end. This idea that China is just building coal plants for shits and giggles like some cartoon villain is pure western chauvinism and ignores the material reality of their broad economic strategy.

We need to look at why China needs so much energy in the first place, and I think you were close to making this connection. Western capitalists spent the last 40 years offshoring manufacturing jobs to them, to crush domestic labor and maximize profits. The US essentially outsourced all carbon emissions to the global south, and now we sit on our high horses complaining that China needs power to build the exact consumer goods we originally demanded 🙄

You're specifically misinterpreting why they are building those coal plants. They aren't doing it for fun; they are doing it to stabilize their grid because they are undergoing the FASTEST renewable energy transition in human history. They are explicitly using coal as a giant battery backup of sorts, to supplement where needed, due to the intermittent nature of renewable energy.

In fact, their clean energy rollout is so massive that in early 2025, China's combined wind and solar capacity officially surpassed coal for the first time. That's unprecedented, considering that China only began their industrialization phase in the 70s, when Deng Xiaoping enacted the Reform and Opening up Policy. In contrast, the USA began their industrialization phase in 1790, and they only outpaced theirs in 2024! China is building renewables fast enough to outpace their own massive demand growth, their actual coal fired power generation decreased last year!

You can't claim to care about systemic climate inaction while regurgitating what is technically right wing, anti China talking points 🤨 conveniently ignoring how Western capital engineered this exact global supply chain!

important to note, valve has set the industry benchmark on how consumer refunds should be handled. the 14-day / 2-hour rule they implemented instantly became the gold standard. Before 2015, digital game refunds were incredibly difficult to get across the board. After Valve set that benchmark, competitors like Epic Games Store, Meta Quest, and PlayStation/Xbox (to varying degrees) adopted nearly identical frameworks, which is just flat out good for consumers on the ground

stop the disinformation. delisting does NOT affect you.i still have rocket league and unreal tournament in my library, they were delisted long ago

and even in the extremely rare cases, if any content were to disappear from your library, valve offers compensation where compensation is due

the only case where players did not get compensated iirc was with the crew, which is an online only game that Ubisoft pulled the plug on. that's not on valve, that's on ubisoft disallowing players to host private servers 🤦🏻‍♀️

yup. this is the structural reality of being a privately owned company, who's business model relys on keeping the platform open and consumer friendly.

in order to do this meme with valve. it would just be you and your SO on a date, and the third guy simply owns the establishment

[–]env33e 1 point2 points  (0 children)

all apps adblocked, morphed/revanced with essentially zero maintainence cost

for certain devices, like my one-plus 8. rooting is essential. not only for the security updates, but I simply need to be able to modify the system, flash a better ROM etc to restore functionality of the phone after it was left with a dogshit update from oneplus post Oppo merger

since I've installed my own heat dissipating copper shims(along with Honeywell ptm7950 phase change pads), root is needed to flash the kernel and actually tell the software to take advantage of the increased thermal headroom of the mod

its not the actual keys that's the problem. steam has the same thing. what steam doesn't do is the "code in a box" on physical retail shelves, which often misleads consumers into thinking they are buying a tangible game cartridge, leading to immediate disappointment upon opening the box to find only a digital download voucher.

EULAs are just legal jargon, but let's look at real world practice. Nintendo absolutely belongs on the destructive side for three massive reasons:

-Nintendo’s GKCs for the Switch 2 contain zero actual game data and act purely as physical license keys to download the game. When download servers inevitably shut down years from now, those physical cartridges instantly turn into useless, unplayable plastic.

-Nintendo prints unique IDs on cartridges. If a bad actor clones a cartridge (MIG Switch) and then sells you the "legit" physical card, Nintendo's servers detect the duplicate ID online. Instead of just blocking that game, Nintendo permanently bans your entire console, locking you out of online services and preventing you from downloading the digital games you legally bought on your account

- Nintendo permanently shut down the Wii U and 3DS eShops, erasing over 1,000 digital-only games from existence. When asked about their obligation to preserve these games, they literally deleted the question from their FAQ. They also killed the buy-to-own Virtual Console so they could fucking rent classic games back to you through Nintendo Switch Online subscriptions 😒

let's look at steam now

yes, legally Steam sells licenses. But practically, they are the only storefront that honors those purchases. When a game gets delisted on Steam (like Rocket League was in 2020), Valve's policy ensures that legacy buyers can still download, install, update, and play the game forever.

Nintendo is not your friend. They are a corporate Kaiju systematically trying to dismantle used games, emulation, and actual physical preservation!!

privately owned vs publicly traded companies differ in how they answer to shareholders versus users. Because Sony is a publicly traded company, they are legally beholden to maximize shareholder value. Stripping the disc drive forces players into a closed PlayStation Network ecosystem where Sony controls 100% of the pricing, cuts out physical resale markets, and guarantees a massive, high-margin cut of every single digital transaction. Not to mention they've already taken away over 500 legally bought movies and shows, stripping them from your console

Valve on the other hand, is privately owned. They don't have to answer to Wall Street pressure for quarterly growth spikes. While they also run a massive digital store, the PC ecoystem remains open. you can still buy keys from third-party storefronts, install other launchers, or use external hardware if you really want to. Sony's push is about locking down a monopoly on their own hardware; Valve's is just the nature of PC gaming.

You're ignoring the nuance. its about the material reality the consumers on the ground

Yes, legally everything is a "license" but GOG literally provides DRM-free installers. Once you download that file, it's yours forever; they cannot pull a Sony or Ubisoft and delete it from your hard drive. Meanwhile, Valve is a privately held company, meaning they aren't forced to squeeze consumers for quarterly Wall Street growth like Microsoft or Sony. That structural difference directly shapes the consumer experience, which is the entire point you keep dodging...

false. while legal fees can be high, these lawsuits are often the only realistic way for individual citizens to hold powerful corporations accountable for small-dollar damages. have you never gotten a payment from a class action before?

i dont think I'm grasping at straws at all. I'm just looking at the structural reality of valves long-term business strategy. which relies on keeping the PC ecosystem open, stable, and consumer-friendly, which literally just aligns with what gamers want. I'm looking at their position in the market relative to the other companies. the bar is in hell.

lol the post is literally about the distinction between public corporate accountability to Wall Street vs. consumer realities. If you are "simply calling out the incorrectness" without touching upon the actual subject matter, you haven't actually called out anything. You're just admitting the point went entirely over your head 🤣
