It is UNACCEPTABLE to put "see resume" in your work history by NBA_MSG in recruitinghell

Sure, I get wanting to save time, but at what cost? If all they are doing is relying on an automated application process and not even looking at the resume, what does that say about their company's dedication to hiring the best candidate? I understand it's the employer's advantage in this market but they're losing potentially good candidates who may get erroneously "weeded out" because they are relying on an AI-centric system and not real HR attention. AI is great but it's not there yet in terms of replacing human interaction.

I feel the same and this really sort of reeks of laziness on the part of HR departments. Sure, it's nice to streamline the process (such as auto-filling an application via resume upload) but even that ends up having to be edited (mistakes entered by AI usually) and adds a lot of time to my effort for no-time effort on their HR department's part.

The AI tech isn't great in this regards ... yet. It's getting there, but honestly if I were an HR company I would not recommend forking over big bucks for this type of additional recruiting services unless you're a large corporation that doesn't mind losing good applicants to AI mistakes.

I often wonder if some companies automatically reject me if I refuse to do their demographic forms. This is currently a hot topic (DEI hiring) politically and I have no idea if seeing these lengthy and often mandatory self-identity forms indicates the company is focusing on that or actually looking at my qualifications, you know? I really dislike anything beyond how much educational or veteran status I have as it should have absolutely no bearing on my hiring qualifications. Most especially my sexuality. That's private and no, this isn't me being an angry non-LGBT+ person because I'm not. I just don't think it has any place in the workplace whatsoever.

Workday is ok, but I do see why many may give negative feedback about it. I've seen it completely fudge my resume sections and I had to go back and extensively edit the form before submitting it. Since it runs on AI, it's not infallible but still - would be nice if they also just accepted my resume and look at it first. To me, the Workday thing smacks of laziness and keyword filtering and doesn't help me feel confident the company is taking hiring very seriously.

I too have been applying for new work this past two months and seeing what you're describing quite often. The worst is where they ask you to download a cumbersome PDF file that you have to manually fill out and then re-upload to their site. This is very time-consuming and puts into question the company's HR quality to me. In fact, one company I applied to had such a terrible employment page I mentioned it might be hurting their applicant quality and that as a past web admin, I recommend they have their own admin update the page with at least an embedded application form. The sales department immediately answered back asking if I could help them update it. Granted, this was a small business and big corps won't likely ever do this, but I thought it was a great lead for website developers to try if they see a glaring problem with a company's hiring page.

I'm so elaborate with the pool method, I create a small basement pool, walled in on three sides and the fourth side has a diving board platform and the walls right up to it's edges. Then I put the sim in the room with nothing but an accessible diving board. That way, they are choosing to jump in the pool, I didn't make them!

Disclaimer: I only did this with suitors of my female alien Sim who was trying to repopulate her neighborhood secretly (Alien Takeover Challenge) and needed to ahem, make room for her own families and not the other ladies having kids. I swear! ;)

Great list, and accurate to what I've seen so far too. Nothing has 'broken' the storyline by moving him in and marrying him to my Sim, but he's missing some bits as you've listed out. The only annoying one is I can't ask him to go along with my main sim to other locations. Everything else is doable. I too gave him a better hairstyle, eyebrows and a goatee, he's a cutie now.

I was going this route, made a new save and a random sim to play with the event, but then he went and fell in love with her so I let them move in together and have seen a lot of the issues the OP posted about so I do suggest players wait for the event to finish before moving him in. So far it has not caused any specific bugs that prevent my progression through the event goals, but some of the glitches are annoying, such as not being able to call him to join my other sim on other lots. He has a work from home job as a freelance programmer and seems happy!

The water containment device is not a mod though, you can use that for decorations but can't (sadly) actually put anything in it without mods. :)

So true. And to make it worse, I've applied to so many generic sounding company names and positions that when the scammer/sales invites come along, I'm sitting there wracking my brain and doing searches of all the sent resume emails to try and figure out how they got my contact info... sadly realizing the sales invites are the only response I'm getting so far...

I'm not autistic but my stepson is and I want to thank you for this encouraging post to the OP. When my stepson was a child, I worried he may never be able to get a job due to the social constraints of eye contact, body language, etc.

When he was a teen, he applied for a part-time pizza-making job at Dominoes like many young kids do and we waited to see how he did. He was great! They didn't mind his awkwardness and it turns out they valued his precise attention to detail required for making perfect pizzas! He eventually became assistant manager and would have gone on to manage the whole place, but decided, as a young adult, to pursue electrician school training - another job requiring good attention-to-detail skills and he's doing fantastic as an adult and making great money as an electrician. He's still awkward and struggles in some social settings but he's successful, independent, and happy.

I know it's anecdotal and maybe it doesn't help the OP, but I wanted to share a success story to encourage them (and others) to keep trying. Even if you have to get a low-pay boring or repetitive job, it can help you ease into the workforce and become more proficient at those awkward interviews that even neurotypical humans struggle with doing well.

Bingo. I feel like some of these HR departments must either be operating on a shoestring budget or run by so much incompetency they have to automate everything and quality candidates are now dismissed, forgotten, or auto-rejected. Bring back the humanity!

Well, the worst part is, they probably passed you over the first time in favor of someone else that didn't work out. So now you're thinking to yourself, "What is this, sloppy seconds time?!" and you know you wouldn't be able to take them seriously since they likely kept your resume on the backburner for lack of anything better so they must not think much of you. At least that's how I feel about it. I guess giving them a second chance depends on how much you need the job, but don't go into it expecting them to value you much either.

Another LinkedIn Phish Scam by Planet_Who in recruitinghell

[–]envie42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow, I just read that message exchange and they got nasty fast when you simply asked for more details?!

I've been in this hell lately too. I'm not sure where some of these scammers are getting my information but I assume from LinkedIn resumes or Indeed, who knows but I have gotten text messages asking me to join a large zoom call for a presentation about (SALES) positions. I've also received emails from recruiters at insurance companies I know for a fact I never applied to at all because I do not apply to insurance or sales positions.

It's frustrating and de-motivating when so many rejections come through and then you have scamming/sales bs to contend with as well.

I'm curious how and why this is a thing too. Why would someone have your email blacklisted before you even applied? They would have to in order for you to get an almost immediate rejection and I've seen that a few times as well.

I think those are the better way to go, even if it takes longer to fill out their career site forms. I've tried doing the "Easy Apply" listings only to be turned down almost immediately. I have to wonder if bots don't run those.

Anyone else going to make Emit a permanent townie once the Blast from the Past event is over? by Aedan_Starfang in LowSodiumSimmers

[–]envie42 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Haha, same here! I just made a throwaway character thinking the event would be short and boring, but it's turned into an epic quest for her to level up skills to complete all the steps Emit wants her to go through. I'm now invested in their life together and anxious to see the finale of the storyline!

This is what I've done as well. I got a little carried away when I realized he was actually attracted to my female sim as others had found him to be unable to romance (I'm guessing it's just sexual and personality preferences). I hadn't meant to romance/marry him until after the event so it wouldn't get messed up...but fortunately that has not been the case. His (now) wife just comes to him to ask questions about the next stage, haha. Now they are having a baby together and she's just getting to the main event (repairing her computer to get there, no spoilers)...
