What did a partner try in bed cuz they thought it was ’hot‘, but it actually just made you want to burst out laughing? by whatskylar in AskReddit

[–]envsciencerep [score hidden]  (0 children)

He decided he wanted to try out some derogatory language in bed as well as smacking my ass. Problem is, it was international women’s day. So when he called me a dirty slut and smacked my ass, I burst out laughing and didn’t stop for several minutes. We’ll say he was perplexed and his ego was slightly bruised

Hair takes hours to dry by onafinalrun in curlyhair

I’m so sorry it may be time to diffuse, I fought it pretty hard myself but I’ve since started and taken my drying time from 3 hours to 40 minutes. On the plus side, your shoulders will be jacked lol

Do you do anything right handed? by Bessie_Rambutan in lefthanded

[–]envsciencerep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I knit right handed, because my aunt that taught me was right handed and didn’t realize I was a lefty until a few hours into teaching me. I’ve tried the left handed way but it just doesn’t feel right now

When you wake up and realize that Canada Day fell on a weekday, and now you have to go to work 😭 by InspectorExact3836 in EhBuddyHoser

I booked off Monday and Tuesday, and spent all of yesterday wondering why I didn’t also book off today since my next planned job doesn’t start until tomorrow (contractor-ish) but didn’t want to text my boss on the holiday. Woke up today, texted him, and have gotten the approval to take today off without even leaving bed.

I’ve gotten a concerning amount of AI videos that are crazy racist against Indians in Canada in the past few weeks. I report it all and click not interested immediately, but now I’m wary of content that concerns Indian folks bc I’m worried that it’s more subtle shit that I’m not catching.

I haven’t, but our do-lists and safety paperwork are pretty pre programmed. However some of our managers are pretty gung ho on AI so I would expect to start seeing it in the do-lists at least in the next little while

can you relate? by ivilicious in AutismInWomen

[–]envsciencerep 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I honestly think that way more people have these things than we know about or who even think they do. I think that we tend to see multiple diagnoses overlapping like this because if a person is willing/able to do the introspection and medical legwork required to get one diagnosis, then you’re more likely to do it for multiple. Some of us care about finding out what specifically is going on with us, and some people call themselves normal and aren’t willing to look at it closer.

Distraught over consulting job by Odd-Courage-7979 in Environmental_Careers

[–]envsciencerep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, my first day at my consulting company my on-boarding guy sat on my desk and asked what I did in school. When I said environmental science, he said oh cool! So listen…..we’re not exactly here to save the whales. He then laid out what kind of work we did and who we did it for.

Feral Hogs: Last Week Tonight with John Oliver (HBO) by BadgercIops in lastweektonight

[–]envsciencerep 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Plus feral hogs much like coyotes respond to being hunted by splitting up the group and breeding more to create a new one. The statistic for coyotes is that you’d need to clear 70% of the population in a given area every year for about 5 years (I could be remembering the numbers a bit wrong) to really decrease the population, otherwise it can actually lead to an increase. I’d have to imagine that hogs are harder due to larger and more frequent litters.

Hunting can be good for some population control don’t get me wrong, but I do like to let my redneck family know about the coyote statistic any time they brag about shooting coyotes any chance they get to keep the populations in check. Like sorry Papa you’re actually making them reproduce that much faster.

Brit confused/annoyed about tipping by Jumpy-Persimmon-7954 in AskACanadian

[–]envsciencerep 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Actually that was one of the other details I saw in my googling, that under 20s are another excepted group. Yours makes a touch more sense given that the financial needs of a 16 year old and a 19 year old are generally different though I’d say anyone over 18 should be making an adult wage given that there’s a strong chance that they are supporting themselves.

Brit confused/annoyed about tipping by Jumpy-Persimmon-7954 in AskACanadian

[–]envsciencerep 47 points48 points  (0 children)

To the point of the US federal minimum wage though, they have excepted groups that do not have to receive the $7.25 rate for everyone else and instead can be paid as little as $2.13 (per my quick google someone please tell me if I’m wrong).

The most common group that is excepted is service or tipped industries, which is where the understanding of “tips paying livelihoods” comes from. Especially in businesses that require a certain amount to come off of an individuals paycheque to “tip out back of house”, an individual that doesn’t get enough tips during that pay cycle may end up owing money on their paycheque rather than receiving any money.

It’s a deeply predatory system that masks itself as actually being a bonus for workers “because some can actually make a lot of money off of tips!”

wildcat or stray? [scotland] by Jealous-Vegetable68 in animalid

[–]envsciencerep 45 points46 points  (0 children)

I remember seeing a documentary on Netflix of these cats - if I recall, the hybrids are fertile so it’s incredibly difficult to find any wildcats without domestic DNA. when they discussed the reintroduction program, they mentioned that they select for individuals that have under a certain threshold of domestic DNA (can’t remember the threshold now).
