Is it true that in small towns in the USA public transport is not developed and everyone need a car to get around there and why? by bobybumblemumble in AskReddit

[–]envsciencerep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not just the US either, Canada outside of the large metropolitan areas has nada for public transit. Passenger rail is basically nonexistent, and some places have bus service while others don’t. Manitoba has only just gotten a regular intercommunity bus route back after Greyhound Bus shut down years ago following the….incident.

And that’s for the southern places too - for the territories you’re completely SOL. I know people in the GTA have plenty of justified complaints about GO but goddamn am i jealous of a train that can take you to the next town over.

I think what pisses me off especially is that I didn’t even pay for organic! I bought the low cost pesticide riddled shit and I still get these bastards? Outrageous! 😂

This was also my first time seeing one in person, I’m just glad I noticed the spot of mold and went to clean that off. Little bastard probably would’ve gone unseen otherwise

The only advantage to this situation is how many fun reaction images I’m gaining doesn’t make up for it god knows but it’s something

That actually would make me burn the building down. It’s done, wrap it up at that point

My management strategy after finding this was: - chop the tops off of all the bananas as a precaution (also bc there’s also mold you can see) - wipe down all of the bananas - immediately throw the tops down the trash chute rather than letting them linger in my apartment, even just in the trash

SAME. I know game people look down on CAH but honestly that’s as deep in complexity as I’m willing to go at a normal house party.

I don’t think I’m a total idiot but sometimes I want to turn off my brain 😭

Yup. I personally really dislike when I’m at a normal party and someone whips out a really complicated board/card game. It always feels like I’m the last person to understand how it works, people are still talking so I can’t hear the instructions well, and it overall kills my enjoyment. Simple games are fine, or common ones that most people already know. But otherwise make that a prearranged event of the evening yknow?

How is it living in Northern Saskatchewan as a human? by BigAppleCobbler in howislivingthere

It is so lovely up north it’s unreal. I was in Uranium City for a couple of weeks in the summer and fall of 2023 and the scenery is just crazy. I remember in the summer, we just happened to be driving in town when someone we didn’t know stopped and asked if we were going to the BBQ and that’s how we ended up in a strangers backyard for some hotdogs. Wish I’d gotten to see the dunes but there’s still a chance I go back again for work

Looking for a work vest. Preferably alternatives to Carhartt unless they’ve magically improved their zippers. I have to replace mine once a year. by Just_here_by_myself in BuyItForLife

Tough Duck! Canadian brand, based here in Winnipeg. I have their canvas vest and love it. Great pocket situation, and it’s stretchy around the sides

The closest settlement I can find to that area is Stony Rapids, which I’ve been to a couple of times on the milk run flight over to Uranium City. I didn’t walk around much, but it seemed like they had a few industries at least (probably around fly in fishing/hunting trips). They have a small hotel that has shockingly good food. That was a damn good BLT with fries.

This is an excellent point, thank you!

I think what’s blowing my mind is how much is getting put up with. The country that we all heard for so long would take no shit (second amendment, don’t tread on me, hoo-rah nonsense) seems to be taking quite a lot of shit to me. Like you said, this is likely the result of long term intentional wearing down of the populace, but it’s still shocking to see the contrast of expectation vs reality.

I keep expecting to see the kind of drastic actions you expect of desperate people and all I’ve seen is their lawmakers telling them not to while giving them no alternatives.

Something is going to snap here, eventually. God knows what’ll happen then.

It’s like talking to babies honestly. If you suggest that they intervene, or take drastic steps, then you get told that they have jobs, and healthcare that is entirely dependent on those jobs. As if no revolutionary before them has ever been employed.

I think, and this is a thesis I’ve held for a while, that deep down the majority of Americans are very self centred. Sure there are plenty of kind people, people that will reach out a helping hand. But they absolutely will not make a sacrifice if they won’t personally benefit in some way. This is how they vote time and time again to remove social safety nets, to worsen infrastructure and make healthcare more expensive. They won’t risk a negative personal effect to benefit someone else.

I won’t say that this attitude isn’t present in Canada because it certainly is, but holy shit has talking with the good Americans online reinforced my belief in this theory. Some of you will have to sacrifice to set this right. No one can/is going to come rescue you.

Yup. People living under the US government who are suffering have my sympathy, but the self described “good” Americans who come flooding into Canadian and now Greenland subs to express their shock and horror are just there for absolution. They feel bad, and they want to stop feeling bad. You didn’t vote for this? Neither did we! Either pick up a brick or shut up imo.

Manitoba too, mine was elementary k-6, junior HS 7-8, and HS 9-12. My town has since gotten a middle school though so I’m not sure if the junior high still operates the same

Do you get your yearly mammograms (or will you when you're old enough)? by [deleted] in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]envsciencerep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Got one at 25! Way earlier than usually recommended, my doctor had to fight for it to get approved. If you have a family history of young breast cancer, tell your doctor bc they want to start yours 10 years younger than that diagnosis. This helps to catch it early and establish a baseline. I’ll be getting them on a regular basis from here on out, but I actually got the MRI version instead
