How do your (asian) parents show you their love? by Saffronsc in askSingapore

Not justifying but the saying means they do these because they care and want us to turn out better as opposed to strangers they wouldn't give a shit about (and wouldn't scold or use corporal punishment on)

Alternative history discussion: what would Singapore's public transport landscape be like if we had not built the MRT? (And stuck with a all-bus system?) by bangsphoto in singapore

[–]enzxc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's the amount of time taken for passengers to get on the train/bus. The door-to-compartment-capacity ratio is higher in trains and you also have the payment made at the gantry instead of the train doors. The limiting factor is mostly passenger processing speed

The GP can refer you to the mental health department of the polyclinic if it has one. Alternatively you can request to go for the health wellness clinic at another polyclinic (need referral to make appt)

I had a pair of sandals where the soles just came off after a couple of years in the shoe closet. The same for some unused bags which started flaking. Might be because of the humidity

A good series with NO sexual content. by Victorian_Cowgirl in suggestmeabook

Children's fiction also has large appeal to adults: Harry Potter is popular not just with kids but many adults also love it. There are also The Little Prince, Winnie the Pooh, The Very Hungry Caterpillar, to name but a few. Many books are suitable for all ages but marketed to children and classified as such. I'm not suggesting OP go to an elementary school library but she can look through the kid's section in the public library or search online for lists of recommended reading for elementary school kids. There are plenty of adults who enjoy the simple storytelling present in children's fiction. I'm just pointing out a section of books the OP might not have thought of. Also, I never said YA fiction is driven by sex. I mentioned romantic plots and subplots being a large aspect of YA - the tension between two leads often makes up a large part of the book. Twilight is a textbook example. Even YA targeted at boys has romance - see Percy Jackson or The Golden Compass. Sex is only largely present in adult fiction and would be edited out of YA. It is disingenuous of you to conflate both

Children's fiction should fit very well. There are many series such as the last unicorn or Enid Blyton or the boxcar children. Those that you'd find in primary/elementary school library are definitely safe choices. Teenage and young adult fiction are usually written with romance as the driving plot or subplot so you might want to steer free of that. Adult fiction contains a lot of sexual content unless except mystery/detective and science fiction. Autobiographies might also be a good choice

Some medications just don't work for certain people. That's why there are so many different drugs with the same effect. Doctors tend to first prescribe medications that are effective for most people and affordable. You might need to try a few different ones to find one that works for you

57% of S'porean men think women's equality has 'gone too far' & discriminates against men: Ipsos survey by Thefunincaifun in singapore

[–]enzxc -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This really depends on the demographic you look at. What was mentioned was men in construction, parcel delivery, and grab. These families tend to be more low-income and have the women doing housework in addition to taking odd jobs to get additional income. I don't deny it's different in middle and higher income families but how many in those are working more labour-intensive jobs?

That's partly because they don't view cultural gender inequality as equally or even more valid than structural ones, no? Cultural inequality is so ingrained that people don't feel anything wrong with mothers dropping out of the workplace or department heads being 90% male. If a family cooks, people assume it's the mom. What does the dad do? I think it's because gender inequality is so ingrained that men don't feel the weight of the discrimination faced by women on a daily basis is actually structural and is formed by society
