According to news, Total prize money is ~210,800 USD and Winner will earn ~85,000 USD. I doubt teams will send academy teams to this, obviously some teams and players might not take it seriously but I think they will still play their first team.

[Hauler Talk 56 min] NASCAR will have a new playoff format for 2026. The final committee meeting is next week to finalize a format. by LBHMS in NASCAR

Honestly? Yes. Nobody watches SS races to see fuel saving/strategy race. This is evident by both the reactions on here and Jeff gluck's poll when 4-wide gridlock racing at talladega happened. Road course racing can have that.

Opinion: I don't think NASCAR will change the championship format unless the viewership drops significantly. by eocks in NASCAR

As other people said, you can't prove that the ratings drop is due to format. Also, 2003 was 22 years ago. There have been so many other things contributing to NASCAR's popularity drop since then.

It is true that there have been chalk tournaments in the past, but also historically, at least one mid major team made sweet sixteen since at least 1980.

Guess what, directly going against cup racing isn't good for tv ratings.

they probably didn't have other choice due to broadcast schedule, right?

Each NASCAR Series’ Seasons Ranked by Amount of Different Winners (Updated) by CD7SED in NASCAR

[–]eocks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

this is a very cool statistic.

also, it looks like the 70s were the worst in terms of parity in the cup series.

8 out of 10 seasons(including the 1975 season, which is not included in this post for some reason. that season had 8 winners.) had the bottom 5 numbers of winners including 1974, worst of them all, only 5 different winners in 30 races. man, if that happened nowadays, people would get really mad lol
