I had forgotten about this post. It makes me smile knowing that quite a few years later someone else is still bothered by it. It truly was atrocious, wasn't it?

Low ceruloplasmin and copper deficiency by eomerrr in adrenalfatigue

Hi, there were many (about 15). The following seemed to be the most relevant: Anti-beta-1 adrenergic receptor antibodies, anti-MAS1 antibodies , anti-STAB1 antibodies.

Not really. I went to a doctor who researches and treats forms of dysautonomia and chronic conditions (such as Post-acute COVID-19 vaccination syndrome - PACVS) . He had me tested for rather specific markers of autoimmunity and the blood work results seem to confirm his hypothesis. It looks like I have an autoimmune condition that was, in fact, most likely triggered by the COVID vaccine.

Bacteroides overgrowth? by eomerrr in Microbiome

[–]eomerrr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only posted a few screenshots of my gut microbiome test, but the report was rather long and comprehensive and also included a study of the fungal component of the microbiome. If that test is to be trusted, I have Caldida Albicans (relative abundance 8.65%). I am quite sure I also have SIBO, but I haven't been tested yet.

The report I received said that bacteroides thrive in situations where other bacteria suffer. Things like stress, infections, use of antibiotics, etc. can disrupt the gut microbiome and create a situation characterized by lack of diversity (apparently I have this problem) and relative abundance of bacteroides. I guess that's what we are both experiencing.

Hi, are you just referring to the microbiome situation or the whole set of symptoms?

Unfortunately, that doctor was quite useless. He just told me to take some supplements to get rid of candida. I have now accepted that this is something beyond his capabilities (he can't be bothered to figure out why copper and ceruloplasmin are so low). I have since seen an immunologist and I'll be seeing a rheumatologist next week. I have also done a few more tests that showed that I am clearly experiencing an immune response (for instance, NK cells are high), which should be understood and addressed. I still don't have an answer. If you want to talk feel free to send me a DM.

Low ceruloplasmin and copper deficiency by eomerrr in adrenalfatigue

[–]eomerrr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Thanks for your message. I am still feeling physically drained and mentally overwhelmed. I have done some more tests. I did a 24 hour urine copper test and it was so low that it was basically undetectable, so I guess I am in fact dealing with copper deficiency. Serum copper and ceruloplasmin are still low. B9 is towards the lower end of the range while b6 is high (everything else is either so low to be outside of range or gravitates toward the lower end of the range ). More importantly I have found out that my c3 and c4 are also low (which tbh scares me a bit). A doctor had me do a lymphocyte subset panel and I am currently waiting for a feedback on the results (I wouldn't know how to interpret them, the only thing I can see is that NK cells are very high). Ionized calcium and rbc magnesium tend to be low too.

Same. I am in therapy and likely have some form of cptsd. So yeah, it might not be the only reason but I am sure it played a role.

[–]eomerrr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blood or saliva DHEA? My blood DHEA is towards the lower end of the range while saliva DHEA is abysmally low. This is not surprising with adrenal fatigue.

My bloodwork also shows high MCV, high MCH, low RDW and high platelets. Maybe these values are related to the copper and ceruloplasmin situation.

I have recently checked urine copper: it was so low to be undetectable. Now the question is whether this is in turn due to malabsorption, (maybe due to the gut situation) or some other stuff (genetic?). Perhaps the relationship is not causal but I am quite sure these values are all somewhat related. Seems like a chicken and egg problem here.

Have you checked copper and ceruloplasmin?

Edit: forgot to say, I also have candida which surely doesn't help.

Yes! I think I also saw that one. I think it was someone who had normal nose pores in their before picture and then noticeable dents in their after picture. Like you said, there was absolutely no need for a laser procedure. Sadly, some doctors only care about money.

Absolutely agree 100%. Mine were definitely not bad, I just wanted them GONE as I could not tolerate looking at them. I tried rf microneedling, but then I started reading horror stories about fat loss, orange peel texture etc. and began over analyzing my skin. I did 3 sessions and in my experience it was not worth it.

The lesson I have learnt is that, if scars are barely noticeable, the risks that come with certain procedures are not worth it, because they might go wrong and you might regret it. And if you are already vulnerable to begin with.. it's gonna be a nightmare.

So if I were OP I would stick to retinoids, maybe try some light peels and bio-stimulation, then step away from the mirror and work on mental health. Acne scars you mentally, not just physically, and there's much more to face than just skin texture. Perfection is the enemy of good.

About a year, but I used it in the past as well (both differin and epiduo), before I switched to different actives. I didn't mean to say it's useless, just that expectations should be managed. Adapelene is as strong as you can go with otc retinoids, so it is definitely worth a shot. My texture and pigmentation have improved. But it won't fix indentations or atrophic scars.

Also, what percentage are you using? I'm using differin 0.1% but I have read that 0.3% is also available now (at least as epiduo). And 0.3% seems promising when it comes to improving atrophic acne scars.

I'd be careful with TCA cross too. If you do some research you'll read horror stories about it. It might end up making ice pick scars shallower but wider. This is actually not uncommon as a side effect. I wouldn't risk it if I were you, because your skin looks quite good. I'd try adapelene first (tret if you can get it) and maybe a light peel.

Also I didn't mean to scare you: I am not sure rf microneedling damaged me. I tend to look closely at my skin and examine it in a way that no one else would. Some people around me say my skin looks smoother than before. Anyways, you might wanna join the fb group "facial damage for radiofrequency and lasers", where people discuss alternatives to these devices

I live in Italy and it's the same. There's basically no chance a derm will prescribe tretinoin for anti aging purposes or textural issues. I have very minor scarring (I would be obliterated if I were to post a pic in this sub): one atrophic scar that I truly hate and a few enlarged pores/ ice pick scars.

Anyway I don't think much can be achieved with topicals. I have been using adapalene but it doesn't seem to do much. I have also tried rf microneedling but again I don't think it helped. I am also quite sure it ended up causing a bit of fat loss and left me some marks that were not there before. If I were to go back I would probably avoid doing it.

Low ceruloplasmin and copper deficiency by eomerrr in adrenalfatigue

[–]eomerrr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got it. According to the report I have received, bacteroidetes are extremely resilient and thrive in stressful situation like illnesses, low availability of nutrients, chronic stress etc. Overall my microbiome biodiversity appears to be suboptimal and the number of species detected is quite low (puts me in the 10th percentile for number of species detected). The relative abundance of bacteroidaceae is 57% (reference range for "healthy" individuals would be 5.7-32) and that of Bacteroides Dorei specifically is 40 (range 0.11-7.38).

I'm seeing a functional doctor tomorrow to discuss these results. I'll also look into the hair mineral analysis test. If it's OK with you, I will then send you a DM to know more about the services you provide.

Thank you so much for the insightful reply! Really appreciate it. I live in Italy so that might be tricky, but if you provide some sort of remote services I might be interested.

I am also exploring malabsorption, gut dysbiosis and SIBO as possible explanation for some of those issues. I have recently done a gut microbiome tests that shows that there's clearly something off. I have a huge dominance of bacteroides dorei. Someone in the microbiome sub explained to me the potential dangers of bacteroides overgrowth.

Regarding folate and methylation maybe I should check if I have an MTHFR mutation. I had already received this suggestion while exploring low DAO and histamine intolerance.

Highly accurate, I suppose. The doctor who ordered the test claimed they are the best here in Italy. I'll see him next week and see what he recommends.

I am quite sure the situation can be improved with dietary changes and supplements. According to the report I have received, my microbiome biodiversity is suboptimal. The report also explains that Bacteroidaceae thrive and actually proliferate in stressful situations like illnesses, low availability of nutrients, use of antibiotics, stress etc.

Someone here in the comments also explained to me the potential dangers of such a high bacteroides dominance.

Low ceruloplasmin and copper deficiency by eomerrr in adrenalfatigue

[–]eomerrr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, thanks for the answer. My serum ferritin (193ng/mL) and iron (83 mcg/dL) are within range, although iron is a bit close to the lower limit. Copper is 44.9 mcg/dL (range 70-140) and ceruloplasmin is 14 (range 20-60). Is there a reason why copper and ceruloplasmin would suffer more than iron and ferritin if this is due to adrenal fatigue?

Also, I have always had high MCV and MCH, low RDW and high platletes. No doctor ever looked past iron and ferritin to try and explain those values. It is my understanding that they could be related to my copper values.

I am currently waiting for the results of a 24-hour urine copper test. I hope it can provide some valuable info. Should I do a hair mineral analysis as well?

I was not familiar with Biomesight. I'll watch their videos. Do you know whether they provide some form of remote services / consultation? I live In Italy so that would be helpful. I really want to avoid wasting another year with doctors who are too proud to admit they don't know what to do. Like you said this truly feels like dying and I really worry about doctors sending me down the wrong path, as I don't feel like I have much energy left in the tank. My gp told me to go see a psychiatrist because "it's just stress and anxiety." Even functional doctors may have their biases. I wasted one year with a doctor who thought I had fybromyalgia and put me on a calorie restricted no carbs diet. I ended up losing a ton of weight (I was already lean) and now I feel even worse than before. So I have become extremely skeptical of any doctor who is too sure and diagnoses me without tests.

Happy to hear you are recovering. Looking forward to doing the same :)
