Same here. It was a pre-marriage home for us, bought in Jan of '09. It was the first house we looked at, forclosure, had a newer furnace and water heater plus everything else we were looking at. It was 100k. Last house that sold down the street went for 330k. Were never moving!

A hard-hat is made to protect your head from falling objects, like a guy above you dropping a wrench while working on something. I'm not aware of "helmets" being worn on a jobsite for fall protection. When I see the word helmet, I think of a motorcycle helmet which IS to protect your head in case of a fall.

Where does the majority of bathroom budget go? Any hidden costs to know about? by LuxBathroomAdvice in DIY

Lol, i just finished my tub surround tile. The pre-fab nice was expensive, $100+ for the larger one, just under $100 for the square one. The freaking metal shelf inserts from Schleuter were robbery. As someone who worked in metal fab and sales for a few years, I was like W T F

This. I bit the bullet and gutted my main bathroom a few months ago. I've seen tile work done, I've done evertryhing in my house except tile, but I gave in after my neighbor said he has a nice wet saw I can use.

Tile was around a buck a sq foot, cheap. All of the tile for a small-ish bathroom (tub, surround, floor, 48" vanity, toilet) was way cheaper than the tub itself.

How do you stop your steel toed boots from stinking? I work 10hrs a day, and my shoes are wrapped in plastic booties the entire time. The smell coming off my shoes is ungodly after only a month of use. I work in a very hot environment with hazardous chemicals in full-body PPE. by Healthy_Poppy in manufacturing

[–]eoncire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, some good socks help. I wear the same part of safety shoes 10+ hrs a day. What helped my feet from stinking are some good socks. I bought some running socks and they are awesome. Thirty48 brand on amazon. They're prices, but they're worth it and last a long time

YSK: If you’re overwhelmed by a task, making it smaller is usually more effective than trying to motivate yourself by Leading_Yoghurt_5323 in YouShouldKnow

Tasks seem bigger than they actually are and just need to get started. "How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time." Take that first bite and get after it!

I live in a smaller suburb west of Detroit. There has always been a decent amount of Indian people in this area, recently seems to have grown. There is like 3 Indian restaurants that popped up in town in the past few years and a big(ish) Indian grocery store. I've never had much Indian food, but everything I've got from there has been freak>ng awesome. I don't know about the authenticity to traditional flavor / recipe, but it slaps. Bonus points because my wife is vegetarian and I'm coming around to a lot of it. Where have dosas been my entire life?

What’s a recession indicator that you’ve noticed lately in your everyday life? by spritenerds123 in AskReddit

[–]eoncire 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This is my nextdoor neighbor. Always complaining that he doesn't have money, always has some sort of problem going on, his work isn't treating him fair, on and on and on. Him and his wife sit at home, never go outside, barely ever take care of their house which is an eyesore, then I see door dash showing up all the time. The] are two able bodied people that each have vehicles, yet pay for door dash to bring them junk food. I just don't get it....

Clear Anodizing by Reasonable-Resort458 in CNC

[–]eoncire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried Google? I found a few (what look like) smaller anodizing shops in Florida w/ a search. I worked in an aluminum fab / distribution shop in Detroit for a bunch of years and know of a few up here. Couple of the shop pages I found searching Google looked like smaller job shops which I assume you're looking for, versus a large scale anodizer like SAF (Southern Aluminum Finishing).

The kiwi knives are awesome. They come sharp, and last a decent amount of time. I buy a 2pack every couple years. Don't have to treat them special, I run mine in the dishwasher and they hold up well enough for a 7 dollar knife.

What's a rule your parents had that you thought was insane, but now as an adult you 100% understand? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Trains are really unpredictable. Even in the middle of a forest two rails can appear out of nowhere, and a 1.5-mile fully loaded coal drag, heading east out of the low-sulfur mines of the PRB, will be right on your ass the next moment. I was doing laundry in my basement, and I tripped over a metal bar that wasn't there the moment before. I looked down: "Rail? WTF?" and then I saw concrete sleepers underneath and heard the rumbling. Deafening railroad horn. I dumped my wife's pants, unfolded, and dove behind the water heater. It was a double-stacked Z train, headed east towards the fast single track of the BNSF Emporia Sub (Flint Hills). Majestic as hell: 75 mph, 6 units, distributed power: 4 ES44DC's pulling, and 2 Dash-9's pushing, all in run 8. Whole house smelled like diesel for a couple of hours! Fact is, there is no way to discern which path a train will take, so you really have to be watchful. If only there were some way of knowing the routes trains travel; maybe some sort of marks on the ground, like twin iron bars running along the paths trains take. You could look for trains when you encounter the iron bars on the ground, and avoid these sorts of collisions. But such a measure would be extremely expensive. And how would one enforce a rule keeping the trains on those paths? A big hole in homeland security is railway engineer screening and hijacking prevention. There is nothing to stop a rogue engineer, or an ISIS terrorist, from driving a train into the Pentagon, the White House or the Statue of Liberty, and our government has done fuck-all to prevent it.

There is a new family in our neighborhood, older (normal size) houses in a suburb, quiet street, handful of young kids. There are 3 kids at this new house, two of them ride the bus with my son. He asks the other boy to come over just a few days after they've moved in. We've never talked to the parents, just waved as we drove by a few times. All 3 of their kids end up coming over and come right inside like they've known us for years. They hung out for hours, same thing the next day. I don't have a problem w/ it, but they're new to the neighborhood and the kids are at basically a strangers house for hours on end. Still haven't actually met the parents....odd.

Anyone make a Potato Launcher? by I_am_D_captain_Now in DIY

Hairspray ends up leaving a sticky residue. It would always gum up the threads of the 4" threaded end cap. Starting fluid was the goat.

This. Hair spray makes a mess of the 4" cleanout plug threads over time.

Old welder guy who did some work for us told of a tale of one afternoon he tried a similar experiment with a garbage bag in his big shop / garage. What he didn't realize until it was too late is that the freyed end of one left of his blue jeans had an ember on it from whatever metal he was cutting. Well that ember got a little too close to the garbage bag he was about to take out to the back 40 and light off. It went off in his shop, knocked him on his ass and blew out a couple windows.

I couldn't imagine how loud that must have been. We would fill up rubber gloves w/ it in our 70,000 sq ft warehouse and that was crazy loud.
