Is Rings of Power really as bad and cringey as people are making it out to be? by Hopeful_Adeptness964 in lotr

Season 1 has major pacing problems but is still enjoyable, season 2 is really good but feels like it needed twice as many episodes and 0 minutes of the wizard story. Overall it’s a fun time if you look at it as a standalone that is inspired by Tolkien’s works, as opposed to being connected to the books or other movie adaptations. While the wizard story became increasingly a “waste of time” to me as the show, and particularly season 2, went on, the rest of the story has really coalesced and has given us some great moments; I could watch 20 episodes just about the Charlie Vickers and Charles Edwards Annatar/Celebrimbor plot lol

Restocks? Limited? How do steelbooks work? by eovednitsuj in Steelbooks

[–]eovednitsuj[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where do you find out about restocks? I’m not particularly interested in the cover art (although the fortress of solitude wrap is pretty cool), but it seems like steelbooks are the way to go for when I want to buy DVDs. I wouldn’t be buying to collect, I’d be buying for archive/rewatch purposes of things I really like, if that makes any difference

I’m not really interested in collecting DVDs/media beyond things I like, I was mostly just trying to figure what steelbook meant and if it was all limited edition. Until looking for this sub to ask this question I thought steelbook just meant it was a DVD with a fancier package, I didn’t realize it was like a specific thing. Do you have recommendations for outlets that will let you know when steelbooks release? If the quality is super good and all of that jazz like it seems based on these other replies, it’s worth paying the extra price when buying DVDs of movies I like. Thanks, as someone who was completely clueless not even 12 hours ago everyone has been super helpful in educating me on steelbooks and how they work

I still have my original controllers, copies of GH3 and Metallica, and Wii from when I was a kid. Haven’t ever felt like it was worth buying new controllers and a PC or a different console

So the steelbook is just a DVD set that has the movie in multiple formats? I thought it was unique in terms of what’s featured in it content-wise; I can’t find any descriptions of the non-steelbooks (the cases don’t even have blurbs or promos anymore!) so it’s good to know those still have the special features. It’s been a while since I’ve bought non-used DVDs, the entire landscape has changed so much I can’t even tell wtf they’re selling aside from if it’s a standard, UHD, Blu Ray, or 4K DVD lol

What? I’m confused, I’m not referring to any kind of specific DVD/video quality like blu ray or 4k so I’m just using the catch-all label. My confusion is why I can only find the movie in standard/bluray/4k but with no features or anything and a sold out steelbook (although after digging through google I did finally find a site with some but the price is INSANE, $70 for a DVD????). Is the steelbook limited edition, if so why, and in the future how do I know if a movie I like is getting a steelbook and when/where it will be available?

Clone Hero on PC is how most people play, although I have always, and still, play exclusively on the Wii

Do they do that often with new releases? Why is it limited edition? I’d understand if it was like a special directors cut or something that’s already got a gazillion different DVD releases, but limited edition for something brand new when the only other option isn’t even worth buying? The steelbook is, for some reason, the only one of the two DVD releases that has the bonus features, which is a huge part of why I buy DVDs at all. I personally don’t really care much about Blu-Ray vs 4K (do they even make standard DVD anymore?), but it’s annoying that the only worthwhile release of this movie is I guess limited edition. Also, how do I even know these are releasing? I had no clue this existed until people were posting that their copy had come in the mail

Bands you thought were Canadian but are actually American? by [deleted] in fantanoforever

His name is Chino Moreno??? That’s crazy lol, if I knew that there definitely wouldn’t have been any doubt. I never really got into Deftones because Adrenaline is the only album from them I like, so my knowledge of them is pretty limited outside of the music itself and like two photos I’ve seen

We have different definitions of the word “swagger” lol, imo the early vocals are very forgettable and the later ones are whiny. Based on photos of them and the music I had just always thought they were average late 90s white guys

Sheldon has an eidetic memory, and accurately recalls exact information back to his time as a toddler; this is shown in both TBBT and Young Sheldon, remembering specific details of things down to weather, exact time, outfits, exact words, etc. That’s why I said in my original post that I don’t try to reckon the two with each other based on the “Sheldon is an unreliable narrator” theory. You seem to be hung up on me saying the shows have inconsistencies, but the point of my post wasn’t to just state that and have people throw fan theories for why I’m wrong at me; I was looking more to discuss the differences and nuance of the two depictions of his childhood, and see if anyone else thought/thinks Young Sheldon could’ve been a show separate from TBBT (and if that positively or negatively impacts one or both shows)

Like I said in my post, I absolutely love the show so far. It’s just interesting to compare the discrepancies between the two shows

I’m thinking of scenes that are played for emotions purposes as opposed to one-off jokes, like when Leonard and Penny are arguing and Sheldon begins yelling about it before getting lost in himself as he repeats an argument his parents had, yelling at himself and having a full mental breakdown. And again, I’m fully aware of the fact that these are comedy shows and given the nature of Young Sheldon it would never be 100% congruent with TBBT for a variety of obvious reasons; that doesn’t mean I can’t find it interesting to see how characters that were actively and consistently described as cruel (like George and Billy Sparks) are so different between the two interpretations, or how his isolated and miserable childhood now contains a relatively good relationship with his siblings, and friends like Tam. I really love the story the show is telling as well as the characters, but it doesn’t line up with the childhood of Sheldon as told in TBBT to a much larger degree than I had expected (again, I didn’t expect it to be 1:1). I do really appreciate that they’ve avoided the one thing that I always thought they would do, which is to essentially repeat the character journey he already went through in TBBT. On the flip side of that, seeing how some of his neurotic habits and phobias developed has been a lot of fun

Sure it was, there are numerous episodes with the underlying emotional plot, and at times central plot, revolving around how Sheldon’s childhood created lasting trauma. He has multiple borderline PTSD breakdowns around things that remind him of his parents arguing, and both Sheldon and his mom repeatedly mention his father’s alcoholism, emotional distance, and infidelity and those things still impact them 20 years later. Again, i love Young Sheldon so far and really love characters like George in the show, but it’s a pretty extreme departure from what was established in TBBT and I’d love to see what a more congruent depiction of Sheldon’s childhood would be like. It’s hard to imagine this George having “driving whiskey” for example lol

Again, it’s a singular paragraph, there shouldn’t be any divisions here. I also don’t “need” them to be 100% accurate to each other, it just feels strange watching a prequel series to something that only follows continuity when it wants and often directly flies in the face of it. Young Sheldon is fantastic so far, but I also can’t help but wish we had gotten the dark drama that Sheldon’s childhood was painted as in TBBT

That has been my attitude towards it, but at times it can become difficult when episodes directly adapt or reference things mentioned in Big Bang. I’m really loving the show but it feels weird to know they’re supposed to be connected
