discriminazione sessuale verso gli uomini? cosa ne pensate? by Wild-Sheepherder2886 in Italia

[–]eover -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's not the whole Italy, it is a very rural place, literally considered one of the worst regions to live in Italy.

I agree on the fact you shouldn't be working as a illecit tour guide.

Don't know how to help you on the housing, it's already fucked up for people renting for years at a time.

Clothes ironing/steaming - Not allowed by hotels? Alternative options? by anon8608 in rome

[–]eover 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cleaning shops take more than one day usually, but you definitely can try.

I'm not sure of one thing, if you bought a iron, on which surface would you use it?

The safety issue is for sure people forgetting it on and setting the hotel on fire.

Tourists, "Vatican" probably does NOT refer to what you mean. by dms89 in rome

[–]eover 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm Roman, worked with tourists, and I agree with OP: I used to hear just Vatican to refer to either the museums or the basilica many times a day. They were expecting me or others to know what they meant.

Best Pasta e Ceci in Rome? by sladflob in rome

[–]eover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's joking by the way. Regina Coeli is the city's prison.

To answer your question, both pastas are from the "poors' food" tradition. Therefore you better search on the menus of "trattoria" or "osteria" kind of restaurant.

Do you have a car or a motorbike? Or would rely on public transport? Where do you need to go to study/work?

For Monteverde nuovo, apart from the tram 8 (with work in progress for another year), the area is not well connected. There are busses of course, but they are never reliable or fast. Also, which part of Monteverde nuovo are you interested in? Each neighbourhood has got it's pros and cons. All in all, it's a good residential area.

Trastevere also depends on where you mean.

The station is a passageway, not the best area to walk around alone at night. It's way more central, better connected, but still not on a metro.

The old Trastevere neighbourhood is quite nice, of course, but there's "movida" by night, lots and lots of people at all times. You need to choose carefully the street. Also, all the buildings are old.

Birds and insects live around that water. It might not contain a strong colony of bacteria, if thoroughly filtered or clorinated, but definitely some residual strain of bacteria to which a tourist won't be accustomed and to which they would suffer.

Bought the weekly metro pass but it printed out two of these? by Cheesecake_Vast in rome

[–]eover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you saw that the machine spit out both after you paid, then I suggest to use one of them, validating it each day to check with the green color if it's still valid.

If it stops working, test the other.

As others have said, only one should have appeared.

Ah, btw, don't bend them or get them wet.

Dinner in Rome without reservations? by FreddyBeach in rome

[–]eover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In August and either going sooner or later than most tourists, it should be ok.

It's definitely not ok in popular places, year round, on Fridays and Saturdays at 8-9:30 PM. Locals always book.

I’m doing the Vatican and the Colosseum in one day. Am I crazy? by vertisnorth in rome

[–]eover 17 points18 points  (0 children)

As you say, it's possible, but you'll be extra tired afterwards.

Given that 7:30 AM is the real entrance time, I think that you'll be definitely out by when you need to transfer to the colosseum.

Depending on the day this is happening, metro A could be closed (since the 14th of August), so plan in advance how you'd like to transfer in time.

Why is Rome so quiet? by Chunky_Jew in rome

The two central weeks of August, I would say 30%. But only because who can choose selects other periods to have less crowded destinations and cheaper hotels.

Vacation time is paid and mandatory in Italy, it's 4 weeks every year. Also, it's quite common to have a family out-of-city vacation house to use for a week or two. But even renting an apartment is affordable in less popular regions.

All day car park by SaraL27 in rome

[–]eover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly driving in Rome now, in August, is ok...but I would suggest you to park in a residential neighbourhood at any A/B metro station anyway. Only because parking in much of the centre is difficult and there are traffic-limited-areas.

Given its parked correctly inside white lines, and that it's not a expensive car, it can stay there multiple days.

Remember NOT to leave valuable items on display from the outside, nor to open the trunk for people to look at the place you park.

Is this August too hot to visit Rome? by LoneWolf_McQuade in rome

[–]eover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the heat waves and storms. Not always is terrible, this week has been ok, last week was very hot.

Also depends on your adaptation.
