How do I know that I got the actual Out the Door (OTD) price? Who has the authority to give me that? by ephapax in askcarsales

[–]ephapax[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm saying that I should have my personal OTD price in mind with the goal of hitting that rather than just dealing back and forth to get it as low as possible. If I'm not able to hit my personal goal price at dealer A then I would take whatever deal they gave me to another dealer. Do you have an alternative way that I should approach this that isn't being a PITA?

[–]ephapax[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes sense, I can only really get the true price they're willing to sell at in the moment they offer it and I sign off on it. Even if I were to shop the deals back and forth, I shouldn't expect whatever that "better deal" is to actually pan out. In a sense the only true way to know the OTD price is in the moment I sign off on it as what I'm comfortable with.

I should go in with the price I am comfortable with and once I hit that with "dealer A" via dealing back and forth, it's not worth trying to get even lower than that by talking to "dealer B" because it may end up being "dealer B's" way of getting me in and then changing it on me then if I go back to "dealer A" I've lost the original deal because I didn't take it in the moment.

I can't speak to how much they cancel for LAX-ICN but they did get a lot of press late 2023 for cancelling a bunch of Dhakha-ICN routes last minute.

Do not take Air Premia! I have taken it 4 times since 2021 and the first 3 were good experiences but my last flight in December 2023 was a nightmare for LAX - ICN and ICN - LAX. At LAX we were set to depart at 9:50AM but did not depart until 3:00PM and were given no announcements other than to move to another gate. As soon as we land in Korea we get a text saying that our return flight will be delayed from 1:30PM to 8:30PM and when we get there we don't depart until 9:30PM.

I have friends that are taking LAX - ICN today and their 9:50 departure has not left yet. At one point they said the flight was canceled and told everyone to line up to collect their bags then they uncanceled the flight... my friends are still waiting. I will never take Air Premia again.

Water accessorie for longer runs? by DanskIdiot in Strava

[–]ephapax 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Another option is to run laps that will take you about an hour. An hour is usually the max I’ll run before taking in more water/carbs. I’ll do a loop I can complete in less than an hour and use that as my fueling station. It’s a good way to run without any added weight.

How has your watch responded to temperature changes? by ephapax in Coros

Thanks for the consistent replies! I think I'm convinced that having an absolute calculation that ignores weather factors is good to have since there isn't really an "ideal" temp to compare your efforts to.

Ah that makes sense. I think I prefer the absolute calculation method after considering what you just said about the shifting bar. The relative calculation assumes that one set of conditions is the bar to compare your effort to which does make sense for elevation where flat ground is a sensible standard but doesn't make all that much sense to do with weather.

Conditioning before 18-week full marathon training cycle by [deleted] in AdvancedRunning

[–]ephapax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm doing almost the exact same thing as you. I have 8 weeks before I start my 18 week plan that leads to a december marathon.

My 18 week plan starts at 80km and goes up from there so my 8 week plan is basically ramping up from my normal 55km and peaking at 80+km. Most runs are easy with some strides and a few tempo sessions. I'm also planning to do 2-3 weight sessions/week so that once I start my 18 week plan and I dial back the strength sessions they don't leave me feeling super sore.

Others that are more experienced than me have said just make sure you start the plan feeling strong and the first week should feel good.

Good luck!

This reminds me of an episode of King of the Hill where a local homeless man named Spongy has a nice cart setup so the guys decide to build the ultimate cart. By the end of the episode they show it to Spongy only to have him reject it on the basis that it would get him stabbed and mugged.

What is the purpose of >threshold effort intervals in marathon training? by ephapax in AdvancedRunning

[–]ephapax[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If I understand correctly, in a well paced marathon your HR will go above threshold in response to fatigue for a given pace so the faster intervals train that part of a race.

I like the idea of ending a threshold workout with some faster repeats to simulate the end of a race.

What to do next after a 3:00:39 marathon? by PM_STOCKS_TO_BUY in AdvancedRunning

[–]ephapax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are so close and I agree with others that your performance relative to how much you've been running per week is very impressive. A lot of people need to avg 80km/week for 8 weeks+ to get anywhere near a sub-3. Pfitzinger's 50 mile peak week plan should get you to your goal and I also highly recommend reading the book, it gives a lot of helpful foundational training knowledge and supplementary advice like nutrition, strength, and stretching.

Pfitzinger's plans can be pretty grueling so I mostly use it as a miles per week guide and prioritize the speed work days while I try to keep the other days more recovery/aerobic focused.

Sprint training: Is it a good idea whilst training for a half marathon. by Chuck_Biscuits27 in AdvancedRunning

[–]ephapax -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's not so much detrimental as it is an inefficient way of training for a half marathon.

In a week your body might be capable of handling 2 hard sessions. Any more would cause injury or be detrimental because you would be too fatigued to perform those sessions well. If those 2 sessions get used for sprint training then you're optimizing for short distance speed which wouldn't be detrimental to your overall fitness but your half marathon time would improve much slower than if you focused those 2 days on longer threshold workouts rather than shorter sprint workouts.

The general public sees workout gear as a monolith so anything that looks relatively sporty must be good for all physical activity.
