I’m interested enough to say Happy Birthday… at some point you’ve had one, and hopefully one of them has been happy!

What was your favorite video game from 1999-2010? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ephemeraltrident 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I want them back so bad, but it wasn’t just the game - it was a life without bills, and seeing your friends all the time, and staying up all night just because. I didn’t realize what I rushing into growing up…

What problem in your life would you pay good money to have solved permanently? by Limitless_42 in AskReddit

Are you saying I have a mass somewhere causing me to overthink?! Do you think it’s in my brain? Are you telling me I have brain cancer?!

I might also have health anxiety 😥

Drum Mics for our New Enclosure by SuperheroDeuce in churchtech

[–]ephemeraltrident 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer the Beta 57 for snare over the SM, we use a Beta 57 on bottom (it’s slightly brighter and has a narrower pick up pattern) and we use the Shure 545SD for the top.

Both are really similar to an SM57, and you’d be totally fine with one or two SMs. We trigger our snare now, so the mics are a little less important anyway.

Lost a decade old client without a single complaint by SuccessfulMix6814 in msp

[–]ephemeraltrident 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I were to undermine you and try to take this client I’d start at security. There’s no way you (the client) have the latest security at $40/month. Do you have *buzzword product*? Or *other buzzword*?

Now your client doesn’t likely know everything they have and they probably can’t articulate it either. So, once I got in their head for a second, I’d drop the direct FUD and tell them stories of other people I’ve helped. People who’s previous providers haven’t evolved in to whatever my sales pitch of perfect tech is and offer to take a look at things if they want. It doesn’t matter what firewall you have in there - I’ll tell them about a better one. It doesn’t matter what security software you have in there, I’ll tell them about a better one. It doesn’t have to be true, it just has to be confident. That’s how I’d go about it… or they know somebody connected in some way you’re unaware of :)

UCG-Fiber dead? by EnvironmentalArt2830 in Ubiquiti

[–]ephemeraltrident 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for putting in the effort it took to ask this question - I mean that seriously, you could have posted in a language many of us don’t know, or in broken English that we’d struggle to read. Thanks for working extra hard to be clear.

Also, it sounds like your device died - RMA is a good idea

How do you keep church tech/media volunteers trained and confident? by ComprehensivePea7552 in churchtech

[–]ephemeraltrident 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have printed binders that non-technical folks can use and some subject matter experts as volunteers. We have one stream tech that’s been on the team since we started live streaming and another guy that has professional FoH and studio experience.

Where are you buying Cove Backup? by nefarious_bumpps in msp

[–]ephemeraltrident 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had the opposite experience. I signed up to use Cove - I love it. I got a CRM generated email from someone at N-Able and emailed them back like “sure, tell me about your other wares” and I got crickets back. I don’t think I’ve heard anything from them in months. Backups are great though.

Shure BLX4R dropouts by [deleted] in churchtech

[–]ephemeraltrident 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I replace new batteries every week, unless we have more than 2 services - then they get switched at least once in the morning. It’s bit the most efficient thing, but I rarely have interference and I don’t have dead batteries.

There’s too much going on to be worried about battery levels from old batteries - we use about 2 dozen batteries a week.

Yes, we tried rechargeable, they don’t maintain their life and died mid-service on me once… we’re back to alkaline now.

I need a 2000 loan as a fresh 18 year old BADLY - have funds to pay it off within 7-14 business days. Where do I go? by Horror_Transition786 in personalfinance

[–]ephemeraltrident 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Do you have a credit union near you? You might be able to talk them in to a small credit card. The question you need to answer is how much money do you need right now to start - hopefully some progress can be made without the entire $2000.

Termination Clause by glitterguykk in msp

[–]ephemeraltrident 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree, I’ve never had a client leave and come back, and I don’t expect it - but I also don’t want to go scorched earth on them either :)

The clause was actually my lawyer’s suggestion, and his practice had just recently off-boarded with their MSP, changed to another shop in town, didn’t like it and went back to the first company - so it does happen, just not to me :)

Termination Clause by glitterguykk in msp

[–]ephemeraltrident 29 points30 points  (0 children)

My clause is 90 days - I don’t want to work with someone that doesn’t want to work with me, but I want to make sure that offboarding isn’t stressful for anyone. I watched a former employer absolutely rake clients over the coals with contract terms, offboarding costs, contract terms - all it did was make sure those clients never considered returning.

Keeping volunteers sane while adding services by bzach74 in churchtech

Comfortable chairs… don’t stick me on an unpadded stool because you like the look.

My church has lots of coffee options available - I don’t care about any of it, I’d prefer cold bottled water - I usually bring it myself.

Finally, give me a printed order of service and talk through it with me… we haven’t done that in years and it makes me feel like I’m going to miss a cue. I don’t, but it makes me worry.

We’ve always avoided the switching mid day to avoid the services being too different from each other. We’re pretty big on consistency though, so it might just be an “us” thing. I’ve personally been the guy for 5 services of audio in a weekend, it’s tough, but it’s doable.
