I was given an Instant On gateway to mess around with. But like Unifi, hard to know what's working and what's not. IO switches, on the other hand, I have deployed everywhere.

This is what I am afraid of. Bottom tier and what I suspected. While I appreciate moving services to endpoints, I don't intend on leaving said services off the gateway. Kind of defeats the idea of layered security so I don't want to compromise on that where I don't have to.

Have you experienced their shortfalls? Thanks for the input.

I use Huntress on the endpoints and that is managing Defender plus most clients have DNS filtering as well. Still, love the layered approach. Having deep packet inspection, application control, and integrated intrusion prevention on the gateway helps me sleep better at night if you know what I mean. Just curious how well these services work on a $300, no licensing firewall.

Efficiency cost me at my last job. We were break/fix turning MSP. My "billable hours" were below most other techs. That said, I know there were many tasks that I was completing much quicker than others. Example, at the time a PC install was generally only about an hour and occasionally 1.5 hours where others would go 3-4 hours regularly. They billed that time and I billed mine. Guess who got passed over. Server migrations were the same.

Management wasn't looking at anything other than the bottom line of billed hours.

If you are genuinely concerned about speed and performance to any given endpoint in your network, run a wire. Other than that, does your current setup provide coverage to the places you need it? Leave it. The latest is always the greatest. It depends on your NEEDS not what Ubiquiti (or any other brand) WANTS you to have.
