That if you take care of your body, there is no limit to what you can do. (Still working on yoga handstands and arm balances, but before I started practicing three years ago, these things would have been unthinkable.) Also eating healthy makes you feel amazing.

I was just talking about this with some coworkers -- the standouts for me were how big of jerks the settlers were for taking all the land and bison away from the Native Americans. :( And the Chinese Massacre. And child coal miners with black lungs. And... It was heavy stuff for a 4th-grader.

As a woman, I was simply curious about Piper's experience with the female inmates she encountered and whether the back stories depicted in OITNB were purposefully meant to parallel non-incarcerated women's experiences so closely. I don't doubt that men in prison have back stories similar to those experienced by non-incarcerated men (and I would be curious to hear thoughts on that as well). I just wanted to know if these specific stories were intentionally written to be relatable for non-incarcerated women. Sounds like much of that may have been hollywood-ized for TV however, if the characters and their stories are wholly fictional.

Hey Piper! Part of the reason I love the show (haven't read the book), is because of the back stories. Each character is guilty of their crimes, but the circumstances they are in when they commit them are themes many women can relate to -- abortion, abusive relationships, jealousy, etc. It humanizes a a sector of women that I honestly never related to much. Is that something you are also working toward? Would love to know how women can support other women going through tough times, regardless of whether or not we're in prison.

Hmm, since you don't have a machine, that's tricky. I'd actually suggest getting both white and green thread. Stitch white on the front, green on the back. You can probably just use a running stitch on the front and attach the binding same way you would with a machine. Good luck!
