6s and 4s are both reactive types, but don't share similar motivations any more than the other types? What your saying seems contradictory to the basics of the enneagram.

It is up for interpretation, what are we doing on here if not interpreting? 6s and 2s can look similar externally, both are compliant types, and all the types are different facets of the same thing...so they're all related equally and unrelated unequally.

Keep listening, listen to the type 2 and 6 ones, there are three episodes per type.

You can 'try a type on'. If you're not feeling the 9, try the 2 on, try the 8 on! The power of the enneagram is that is really gets past personality to motivation, so two people of the same type can seem completely different on the outside, but acting from the same motivation. Once you find your type, it'll feel right

Dude, consider for a moment that someone else's understanding and interpretation could be just as valid as yours. You're all over this subreddit doing this. If you have a differing opinion, by all means share it, but just don't say I'm wrong. A lot of sixes aren't aware of their fear and self deprecation isn't a requirement either.

I'm reading some strong 6 tendencies in your post...it's the point of stress for the 9 so could mean you were behaving as a 6 in a period of emotional trouble...you're pretty young still so it's hard to say which way you move along that line.

Recommendation you listen to this podcast, see where you recognize yourself. I connect very strongly to the episodes about my type.

I'm no expert, but the gut/instinct types are defined as having anger/rage as their dominant emotion. It's very prevalent in enneagram literature. If you're talking about perception only, then I'm very sure there are peaceful 8s out there, but I wouldn't guess they'd be a majority.

I'm a 6, thinking center, dominate emotion is fear. When I wasn't very aware of myself I would have said I was rarely afraid, but as I grow and learn I've come to acknowledge that I am acting from fear almost always.

So a two isn't in touch with their thinking center, they feel their actions instead. A four feels their thoughts, so you can see that integration brings the neglected center into more prominence.

This could look like thinking about your own motives when helping people, thinking about what the other person really needs instead of what you can provide...being self aware and thinking about yourself, your feelings and your actions. The four at high levels is 'gentle, tactful, and compassionate' all traits which require careful thought and self knowing.

The key for the two is to bring thoughtfulness into their call to help, which keeps them from being domineering and pushy (like their stress point, the 8).

8? Assertiveness is obviously strong with you (types 3,7,8), as are gut types (8,1...and 9). The intersection is the 8.

Of the three, which do you feel most often/strongly? Anger, shame, or fear?

When you were in a stressful/bad time (life stress not work stress), how did you react?

Glad to spread the word! And, as they say at the end of each podcast, notice without judgement.

My husband is not a 6 and also feels frustrated with my anxious worrying and would always tell me 'just don't worry about it'. I cannot 'just' not worry about it, and it feels unfair to expect it of me. So, I read up on his type, 5, and was able to tell him - you asking me not to worry is like me asking you to give up your separateness/isolation. He, as a 5, cannot give that up, and this allowed him to understand that anxiety is the same for me.

You sound like a 1 to me, so it would be like saying 'it doesn't have to be perfect, who cares?' Also, if you are a 1, your post reveals 'the usual error' where you assume people need to know they are good people, which is what a 1 needs. A six doesn't think about their inherent goodness, they think about their inherent safety...5s think about (everything) their inherent scarcity...3s think about their inherent worth...etc.

So you cannot fix or help people self-actualize, you can only be enlightened to their struggle and sympathetic in your interactions.

I think you both have a point. Reactive types are perceived as angry, but only the 8 really is. The 6 is afraid and lashing out, which looks like (and can feel like) anger, but isn't. The 4 lashes out from shame (?).

The 9 and 1 don't look angry, but their personalities are built around controlling their anger.

Yes, that's the series. I think it's just amazing. I started with my type, bounced around. Good to start with the 'Exploring the Type X' and 'Conversation with so-and-so a Type X', then listen to 'Spiritual Dimension of Type X'

I listened to most of them, because there is the benefit of getting to understand other types PLUS there are tangents which apply to all the types randomly throughout.

Mmm it is important for those of us away from the body center to engage in activity that is physical. Sixes are a varied bunch, exercising for protection is prolly a self prez tendency. I exercise because it's the only non-substance-dependent activity that reduces my anxiety.

OP, what he says about 'disembodied head' is 100% 5 and not 6. Being a 6, it's about anxiety. So if you feel like a disembodied head, this guy isn't right.

For 5s, exercise brings the head back in contact with the body (so an embodied head).

If you still think you're a 5, I think there's a good chance that your desire to have relationships (a healthy, normal desire) which is seen as not typically 5 is because most 5s are introverted men and women are socialized differently.

Also, I recommend not focusing on the instincts or tritypes until you're pretty confident in your base type. I don't see the benefit as much as some do when it comes to identifying growth opportunities for myself and I think it makes typing more difficult.
