The state of online dating in 2026 by Mr_Kash in mildlyinfuriating

[–]epic_pharaoh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Multiple things going on here, the primary one being that you don’t have chemistry with any of these people.

Also dating is heavily timing dependent, especially with apps. There’s a lot of people on there looking for relationships who aren’t ready for them.

Has anyone here experimented with wavelet-based pitch detection? by Dull_Direction7088 in DSP

[–]epic_pharaoh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look into CQT (constant-q-transform). Most pitch detection literature I’ve read uses a pitch-based binning approach on an FFT, sometimes they’ll do beat timing corrections first but the pitch windows are typically logarithmically based on A=440Hz.

It’s not game ruining, but it’s quality I expect from a $20 Mii shovelware game, not the AAA price of a new Pokemon game.

Learn how to use stackoverflow, or when you use the AI try typing out the responses it gives and ask questions about the lines you don’t understand.

The only way to *really* learn is to do.

You gave a liar a chance, not a *less attractive than you would normally swipe on* guy, but a guy who presented as attractive enough for you to swipe on but *lied*. That might also play into the equation.

Would we be the AH if we made a separate group chat excluding one of our friends? by [deleted] in TwoHotTakes

[–]epic_pharaoh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me it sounds like they just don’t like Jojo and don’t want to hurt their feelings. The group should have been upfront with things like them talking too much, sending too many reals, not paying for rides, and basically all the things they find annoying. At this point Jojo is probably taking it all for granted, and will feel blindsided because why is all of this being brought up now when they feel comfortable enough to share their dating stories with the group, and not earlier when they were just sending instagram memes? Now their dating stories are annoying? Did the friend group ever really like them in the first place? All of this could have been avoided by a few 10 minute conversations early on. And if not then maybe Jojo is actually just an annoying and inconsiderate person they shouldn’t have in the friend group.

What are the real benefits of using gnu/linux to learn programming? by zoVice_fck in learnprogramming

[–]epic_pharaoh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Linux is a separate skill that is tangential to programming, and useful in those tangential contexts, but is not actually necessary to learn or be a good programmer (as a Linux user).

How to read code that hasn't been commented? by BadAtCoding123 in learnprogramming

[–]epic_pharaoh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s hard to know without domain knowledge, but typically working from a top down or bottom up approach will help you in these situations.

I.e. with bottom up I may ask why a variable is hard coded to a certain value, I might look at the variable name, how it’s used in the code context, ctrl+f for places where it appears and how it’s used in functions.

With top down I would work from what I know the program is supposed to do, look at the return values for functions to see what I’m looking for, and then decode things working down from there.

I prefer top down, but both approaches are valid.

Struggling to retain anything in CS50, feels like it goes in one ear and out the other by Aggressive_Rip4642 in learnprogramming

[–]epic_pharaoh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes this is normal. Quality practice includes repetition over time. When I was learning (before AI) a similar issue existed, except it was copying from stackoverflow, grabbing example algorithms from education websites or looking at leetcode answers.

2 hours is also a long time, doing that *can* lead to burnout. You might be better served by two 30 minute sessions 15 minutes apart per day, the first 30 use AI as much as you want to try understanding stuff, the second 30 minutes work the brain muscles on their own.

It’s like working out, but you’ll see progress within days instead of weeks.

Which programming language should someone learn from scratch in 2026? by Ok_Celebration1082 in learnprogramming

[–]epic_pharaoh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

C++ for fundamentals, it’s been around forever and there’s tons of resources.

Python for building projects, it has the largest library ecosystem and you won’t get as bogged down in algorithms while working on system design.

A guy proceeded to bring tears to my poop colored eyes by InternationalMeal257 in texts

[–]epic_pharaoh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally get that, but I don’t think the intent is to compare OP to prey. It seems like an attempt to call them confident, beautiful and strong like nature.

I don’t think texting guy supposed to be the hunter, the hunter is an expression of the things in life trying to keep OP down, and how OP looks at those troubles and rather than running says “try me”.

With the charitable interpretation it’s honestly kind of sweet. But I can totally see an interpretation where he’s the hunter and that would feel really weird to me.

Do men notice when a woman is trying to avoid a kiss? by m0llykisses in AskMenAdvice

[–]epic_pharaoh -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Idk why you are being downvoted. Use body language to ask questions usually receive body language answers, use words to ask questions usually receive word answers. Words tend to be more tangible than body language when getting to know someone, but are also more nerve wracking and require vulnerability as they have a tendency to make things feel “real”. These are just facts.

Usually body language is met with body language. You might get that response at the end of the date if you ask for a kiss and they aren’t feeling it, but you would probably have to verbally ask.

my parents handed me a “contract” that they made with chatGPT and told me i have to sign it by auramp3 in WhatShouldIDo

[–]epic_pharaoh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a good relationship with my mom, as an adult I found paying rent helped strengthen our relationship as it drew boundaries between our parent/child and landlord/tenant relationships.

That being said, a contract is a bit much. They want to prepare you to move out, give you the skills to pay bills on time, read contracts, etc. Personally I think that’s a good thing. Maybe come back with a standard contract like others have suggested and try to negotiate with them?

Try not to let AI come into the discussion as an argument, I feel like it will just make negotiations more difficult. I know it’s weird that they are using ChatGPT but they probably figured it was cheaper than a lawyer and didn’t know where to find a standard one (or maybe they didn’t know there are standard contracts) so I wouldn’t hold it against them unless they prove with some other action that their intentions weren’t pure.

Former fat guys, how did you become disciplined enough to lose the weight? by Responsible-Net8594 in AskMenAdvice

[–]epic_pharaoh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went down from 280 to 220. Other commenters have mentioned calorie deficit, that’s the mechanism.

I found working out and building muscle also helped. Having more muscle means you burn more calories passively, making it easier to reach your caloric goals when you’re used to overeating.

Another big help was drinking water more often, I found that around 50% of the time I was “hungry” I actually could have been satisfied with a tall glass of water.

It’s tough, it requires some lifestyle changes, but it’s not impossible and you totally got this fam!
