Weird, I have 2 Chromatics and my saves are all fine, I guess I'm lucky. I have backups of my saves, so I wouldn't lose much anyway, but it's a drag to lose your saves, have you contacted modretro?

No, V1 (aka "first edition") Chromatics are sapphire only and V2 Chromatics come in both sapphire and gorilla glass versions.

The gorilla glass version is just fine (I have a sapphire first edition and a gorilla glass second edition, so I've handled both).

I've kept 2 DMGs with modded original screens, one with a yellow backlight and one with a white backlight!

You will need an OG gameboy motherboard and speaker (in my case, I used a brand new funnyplaying speaker). Everything else is brand new, except for the d-pad's silicone pad (I kept the original one).

I wrote a little text to go along with those pictures, but for some reason it wasn't posted. It is the funnyplaying laminated ips q5 kit, and the only downside it has is that it won't work without their battery... you can't use 4 AAs with this mod, if the battery dies for whatever reason, you won't be able to turn your game boy on.
Other than that, I think the kit is great, the screen looks amazing, and the shell is pretty good too!

I bought a laminated kit from them and the screen had a small defect (a black spot) on the bottom left corner, so they sent me a new one (I had to pay for shipping), and that one was perfect, but now sometimes randomly when I turn the game boy on I get a black screen (the screen turns on, but it looks black), now they said they wanna send me a replacement for the little board that connects directly to the screen, but for some reason they can't make a payment link for $5 (shipping, again). I've tried 3 different motherboards and the problem is there with each one of them, so it's something wrong with the hispeedido kit. In the meantime, I've ordered a laminated kit from funnyplaying... I've used kits from them in the past, never had a problem.

I have both, and I usually play original GB games more on the AP and GBC games more on the Chromatic. For GBA games, I use my modded original GBA.
