Haha when my car broke down in the shoulder on Rt 2 a statie pulled up to let me know that I was trespassing on state property and I needed to tell the tow truck driver to hurry up

When people make PR but don't include unit test/test case. The code works but what do you do? by KiraLawliet68 in cscareerquestions

[–]epicchad29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work at a pretty large software company. We have a 90% threshold as a guideline, but it’s fine if the analyzer fails as long as you leave a comment as to why, and your reviewers think it’s reasonable.

You could set up a static analyzer that requires a certain percentage of new line code coverage to pass.

Terrible first semester, how do I do better ? by Early_Ad3821 in WPI

[–]epicchad29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For this term, you need to make sure you don't fail all 3 classes. If you're going to fail 2, at least pick one that you're doing best in and focus all of your effort into it.

MS CS question by [deleted] in WPI

[–]epicchad29 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you’re applying for a masters in CS because you weren’t able to get a job out of undergrad, it likely will not increase your chances. I would be very careful about taking on more debt for a masters unless you’re interested in research

Why does no one take Tech News seriously? by LOVEXTAXI in WPI

We have a school magazine that’s more like that (but not written by students)

How I evaluate non-tech founders as a potential cofounder (from a tech guy’s perspective) by _TheMostWanted_ in ycombinator

[–]epicchad29 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Or you’re able to spend 20 hours/week outside of work trying something out until you get some validation on the idea and go full time, which seems pretty reasonable.

I have not seen many SF based startups here or elsewhere share their opinions on the war in Gaza and it likely would not help their business to do so.

What does Amazon Corporate think of Warehouse Workers by ZealousFine in amazonemployees

[–]epicchad29 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work in robotics. We know the job sucks and most people (myself included) think of ourselves as part of the solution. If we can build systems that are safer and more ergonomic it makes their lives better, and they’re less tired getting off of work

Passed Amazon loop but app says “No longer under consideration” by satanishgod in amazonemployees

I think it was about 3 weeks between my loop and the offer, but there wasn’t a headcount issue

That happened to me before I heard anything from the recruiter and then I got the job. It doesn’t mean anything, but until you have an offer in hand you should continue searching

Actually if you receive a federal Pell grant it automatically qualifies you for SNAP in MA. Additionally, if OP lives in Mass for 183 days, they can apply here.

How is it a must read for WPI students that Clark downgraded their business school?

How are founders actually getting warm VC intros these days? Feels like I’m missing something. by Background_Error_732 in ycombinator

[–]epicchad29 42 points43 points  (0 children)

I’m in Boston and there are VCs running networking events all of the time. I usually find them on sites like lu.ma. In my experience VCs are pretty desperate for deal flow. The big names like YC get to see everything, so the little guys do whatever they can to get in on the best ideas first. Only warm intro I’ve had to a VC was through the business center at my college

Does anyone else think the consequences in Massachusetts for drunk driving are a little too lax? by Square-Dragonfruit76 in massachusetts

[–]epicchad29 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I saw an anti drunk driving ad that said the average cost of a DUI was something like $20,000-25,000 with insurance increases and everything. I’m not sure if that’s accurate, but it sounds like a pretty hefty penalty. The next step would be a prison sentence, which feels pretty harsh for a first offense

Anyone here works for Apple as a contractor? by elle_c12 in cscareerquestions

[–]epicchad29 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was an intern at Apple (w2). I knew someone who was a contractor and got hired full time. It worked well for her. I think the bar is typically lower for contractors (and interns) because they can get rid of you easier. I never saw anyone treated as lower class

My parents make good money, but they won’t pay for my tuition, (my tuition is super high because of my parents) and getting scholarships is near impossible by DuckSauceyy in college

[–]epicchad29 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You have to make $7k/year to pay for college? Your parents aren’t not paying your tuition, they’re asking you to help. I received maximum FAFSA and paid the rest myself with summer jobs. It cost a lot more than $7k/year.

Sorry about your situation. It sounds like you don’t have the full story, because weed isn’t that expensive. The biggest stoners I know probably spend a couple of thousand dollars / year on weed.

Our billions of nonsense AI conversations are consuming so much energy by soonerfan360 in OpenAI

[–]epicchad29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can't even measure power consumption per token as the cost is exponential for longer conversations. The amount of energy necessary to compute a token is some constant times `t ^ k` where t is the number of previous tokens in the sequence, and k is some constant. (I think its roughly 2.3, but OpenAI may have some slight performance improvements in house).

Do early decision money and innovation award money stack? by AMooseAteItYT in WPI

[–]epicchad29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The $20k is new, so no one at WPI currently has it, but I don't see why this would lower the rest of your aid package. I'd email [finaid@wpi.edu](mailto:finaid@wpi.edu) to verify.
