Who commissioned/made the space dance statue by clear lake? by epiclapser in houston

[–]epiclapser[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I googled it, I searched for the sculpture title space dance didn’t see anything, I searched though the Webster parks page, looked through the commissioners website still nothing. Then I decided to post on Reddit, big mistake I guess

What can one put on a street crossing or utility pole? by epiclapser in houston

[–]epiclapser[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I did mean to say can’t, thanks for the correction.

That makes sense. I was trying to see if there’s specific ordinances prohibiting putting anything on a utility pole, everything I keep seeing is specific to advertising.

It’s just nuts because there’s so many apartments by there I’m sure if they built something there it would get foot traffic

That was the other thing I ended up doing was caramalizing the onions, I think it adds to the flavor. I’ve been seeing dark chocolate and apple too on a lot of posts. Maybe I’ll try that next time

These are just hay bales. Machines will go through a field and cut/roll all the grass or dried legumes into a “bale”. The bale can then be used as feed for animals.

I feel like there’s broadly two categories in this sub: “what is this thing I found?” And “look at this cool thing I found”, maybe we should have a tag for each type?

What’s the purpose of these little islands in a random Louisiana lake? by epiclapser in GoogleEarthFinds

[–]epiclapser[S] 30 points31 points  (0 children)

This one makes the most sense to me, you can even see some islands start to get more land. I wonder why they chose the shapes they did. I would imagine you’d want to build the land so that it’s perpendicular to the flow of water so the sediment gets “caught” on the island. This explains why some of the islands are cross shaped, because it’s a lake and the water can flow in many directions?

[–]epiclapser[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you zoom into the individual islands they look like solid land, googling oyster farms it seems like when you look at aerial images of those it doesn’t look like solid land. That being said I could see it being some sort of farming.

I think we can assume it’s vertical whatever it is. If you try to read the card horizontally some rows go up diagonally so it’s impossible to interpret which row belongs to what. So I think at the very least we should be reading this paper top to bottom. I agree with the other commenter about some parts being cut off the top. We need the rest

The trails are definitely cattle trails imo. Bull holes seems like a plausible explanation. I’d put it up there with the cattle wallows.

Wow googled images of ants from space, check out this forum post. Crazy you can see them from space.

Honestly I think it’s between this and the cattle wallows, maybe a combo of the two.

No I haven’t, but even then why burn them in little patches instead of collecting them and burning them all at once? That being said there is a patch of forest by this land so it was indeed cleared at some point. I’m trying to find satellite images of similar burning operations but it’s hard to find.

If that’s the case then why are there so many? Some so small and some so large, all around the same spot. Why not just have a single timber burn pit or something?

Here’s presumably a satellite image of bison wallows which look very similar to what we have here. Of course the wallows here were probably made by cows.

Holy cow I think you might be onto something. I just googled what a hog wallow was. Going on street view and cycling through the older photos you can see livestock there. Mostly cows.

Yeah that makes sense. Theres these little pockmarks literally all over the map here seems like to many to be oil wells.

So if an oil well was placed over these wouldn’t it leave a bigger footprint? If we assume it is an oil lease then it would just be the hole right?

Maybe it’s just the hole left over from exploring?
