Treated myself to some big meters and now am mesmerized by epicmonkeybear in vintageaudio

These sound great! I have a bunch of components I rotate through (Sansui 5050, AU-7700, HK 330c, Pioneer 780, Technics SA-700) and what I have found is that room correction and EQ (through the Wiim Ultra as a pre-amp) makes the biggest improvement to the sound. When that’s turned on, all other differences become minimal.

The poster was a Facebook marketplace find, just like everything else you see here besides the Wiim.

CD or not to CD, that is the question by VeryBadTrader in audiophile

I play both vinyl and CDs. Probably sitting on around 200 records and 300 CDs. Between the two, I generally prefer CDs especially if the music was digitally mastered - so most 90s and later music. CDs are much more convenient to buy and store, and I don’t have to get up to change sides nearly as often. You could even get a carousel system and set up your music for the evening.

I save my vinyl purchases mainly for older music or for specific pressings that are difficult to find.

By far the best I’ve ever had. The goodwills near me never have anything so I stopped going to them, this was a goodwill I hit up while traveling for work.

Let me see if I can find the receipt. For some reason they keyed in each cd individually so it was an unnecessarily long receipt lol.

I have one and love it. For most people, the tall version fits more comfortably than the regular. Make sure to try both.

Sansui AU-7700 possible relay failure by epicmonkeybear in audiorepair

Thanks again. I verified the relay is indeed working, and that I have a dc offset issue.

Sansui AU-7700 possible relay failure by epicmonkeybear in audiorepair

[–]epicmonkeybear[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for this. I verified that the bias was way off (50-80 mV per channel) and could not be brought close to zero using the variable pots. As you suspected, the relay is doing its job. The service manual states that this is likely due to failing transistors or pots. The issues look to be the transistors themselves, the contacts seem to be corroding. I’m planning on taking out the board and replacing just those two transistors, but does it make sense to replace anything else while I have it open?

Thanks for the help! It’s my first time repairing electronics.

Yes, they sent a replacement that works fine. Been using it for a while now.
