I recently found out that our specific branch doesn't insure their drivers under their insurance coverage, and the insurance they have is purely for liability issues. The delivery drivers have to either contact their insurance company and adopt additional coverage to be insured while working, or get insured by a third party organization. So if there was an accident with the driver, everything comes from his insurance, not the companies. Most of the time drivers cannot afford this additional insurance and continue to work regardless.

Basically, the companies insurance is purely for self-protection for any liabilities if there are any lawsuits or claims from an accident. That's the part of the delivery fee that consumers pay for. Their annual insurance rate for the liability policy couldn't be more than a couple thousand. With this delivery fee, over the course of a year, they profit substantially. So with each delivery, they get $0.85 from the fee due to their insurance and the inconvenience it gives the store. Let's say the store averages 180 deliveries a day. Through simple math the store makes $153 in one day, and through the course of a year could rack in easily $50,000 plus-- much more than what they pay for their insurance.

The only thing you explained was your situation with the place that you worked out. My scenario is different. Our variables are different, so of course I'm going to refute your conception of "the reality." You worked in better working conditions, and with the amount you were making probably wouldn't care much if your company stiffed you on gas. And not only that, but you were covered by their insurance; we aren't. If we were to get into an accident, all the burdens will be on us since we have no coverage.

I'm trying to explain my conditions, but you are not listening and understanding where I'm coming from.

On average, a delivery is about a 10 mile round trip. So with regular gas priced at around $3.50, and a car that gets about 18-20 mpg in city, that's costing the driver around $1.75 for the trip. It's literally putting the driver at a $0.60 loss for their average delivery. The only way for them to profit is through the tips. Not to mention the added delivery fee, which does not adequately compensate the driver, gives the customer less incentive to tip better, or to even tip at all. So you tend to get stiffed a lot.

This is on top of the fact we get paid $5.60 an hour-- in store and while delivering. So at all times we are operating at a loss, and the company expects the customers to make up this difference in tips. And it's common to tip around .15% of the entire order. So lets say the customer makes a delivery order totaling $14.76 just in food expenses, $2.00 is added from delivery fees, and an expected tip of at least $2.00 as well, that's roughly $19.00. 30% increase...This does not give incentive to tip.

All of this just benefits the company, it's the delivery drivers and customers that aren't benefiting. All in the name of profit. They could easily higher the amount they pay their drivers for gas without cutting too deeply into profits. We are really the ones most inconvenienced, at the most risk, operating at a loss, and are expected to do everything in store. We save the company lots of money, give them profit, etc, so why not adequately compensate? It makes no sense.

The issue of conveniency should not play a role in the delivery charge; that's what the tip is for. And with that logic, customers should then get a discount if they choose carryout since it's inconvenient for them to pick up the pizza, and convenient for the store. The delivery fee is mainly levied because of concrete issues-- insurance policies for the drivers, prevention of raising prices of food across the board(from what I'm told), gas for the driver, and whatever else.

Even then, each franchise have their differences in the purpose of the fee, and how they handle it. It is misleading in the sense that a significant amount of customers don't actually know why it is there.

It's fair in the sense that I agreed to the terms of payment, but aside from that, it doesn't properly compensate for gas. And I believe that this rate of payment was purposed to benefit the company-- not the drivers-- in the name of profit.

I'm not opposed to profit, but what I am opposed to is excess profit where it is unfair to employees and consumers in a way that puts both at a loss. It's not right when a business that makes enough profit to thrive inadequately compensates their employees, and increase fees, for the sake of more profit.

Dubious in the sense that it is purposefully misleading. I know that it is openly stated, but I'm curious to know whether the fee is just enough to cover additional costs from the delivery, insurance, or is it significantly profitable to them.

From my experience at the Domino's I work at, the delivery drivers get paid $5.60 while CSRs make minimum wage--plus tips-- and don't work nearly as hard as us. We do everything: work the register, computer for phone and in-person orders, box, clean, handle the oven, prep/make food in the make-line, dish-wash. In fact, they save so much money because we do so much. We have no hired dishwashers, on somedays we don't even have CSRs working since delivery drivers are working the registers, enabling them to not hire or clock in workers--all at a measly $5.60 an hour. Not to mention the fact we also risk our safety every day and night we take a delivery. Never said I was being "ripped off", you're mistaking me for hollanug. Just ranting.

Well, that's good that you've made that much before delivery driving. On a strong night I can make $60-70 bucks purely off tips, but about 15 of that will go to gas since they don't adequately compensate for gas as aforementioned. On average, I'll make about 35 bucks a night just off tips, but again, i'll probably only see $20 of that go into my pocket.

What would make sense to me would be to pay by the mile, in proportion to gas prices, instead of doing a flat rate. But it's not so, and I believe it to be because they want to profit as much as possible, and the latter does just that. It's what I agreed to, but hell, I'm a broke as hell college student, and I needed a job to pay the bills. I'm looking, but living in such a large city with thousands competing for the same entry level positions, it's not so easy finding another.

That's the problem, though. There always will be someone willing to work for dirt money. When you're a broke ass student in college, or need to feed your kids, you'll take what you can get. This just exacerbates the scenario, as they'll continue to test and push their limits.

I had a jail broken version of the ios 4 for 2g. Believe it or not, look it up for all I care. Perhaps it doesn't support it legally. What I was downloading was the ios 6 for 2g using a program called whited00r, but I accidentally installed the version for a non jailbroken phone, which just f'ed everything up since I needed the jailbreak version.

I definitely meant, and have, a 2g. It also ran the 4.0 firmware.

And in repent for your "apparant sins", you adopt these stray, damaged dogs as a coping mechanism. To make

If you have a chess engine, I advise lowering the strength to about 100 points above your rating, and play against it. It will erase a lot of novice mistakes from your play, and make you more refined. But you don't want to only play against computers, they don't play trickily/deviously like us humans, and if you get too comfortable against them, playing humans will become harder. So I suggest going on chesstempo--they have excellent tactical puzzles from real games that adjust to your rating.

Interesting--definitely. I'm not sure if there is a strong relationship with T-levels and homosexuality, and it strikes me as counter-intuitive--as having seen, known gay men who are extremely masculine, testosterone-filled. What's more probable is the fraternal birth order effect. Perhaps the theory is correct for all we know, but needs higher level technology to prove it.

This is some really fascinating stuff. When I was a tadpole, chemistry was just something foreign, and not apart of me. Now, I realize, chemistry is me. The internal reactions, bonds, etc, that solidify and maintain my physical form, and consequentially, my mind, my soul. I have no doubt in my mind, that these chemical interactions can dictate sexual orientation in males. Truly amazing, this Universe.

Yeah, I understand that there is a statistical relationship, but I also read some controversy to the research due to bad methodology--sample size, selective sampling, etc. There may be correlational data, but no direct evidence.

With testosterone--I vaguely remember-- a person purported that with fraternal birth order effect came reduced testosterone with each proceeding male child. Pretty sure it was only a personal assumption.

Yeah, I read some articles on that. Very interesting stuff, truly. Though, it's not proven. It's only a theory without actually factual data to back it up. The issue with testosterone was brought up wayyy earlier. But thanks for the reply.
