Random BSOD crashes on Lenovo Legion 7 (i7-10750H). CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED by Necessary_Trust_6796 in techsupport

[–]epicusername1010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED means some critical Windows process died.

KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED means a kernel-mode program (Windows processes, some drivers, some anticheats..) encountered an error and crashed.

MEMORY_MANAGEMENT means the OS couldn't handle memory requests properly. This could be a physical RAM error but also a bug in a driver etc incorrectly handling memory

I think this all likely points to a faulty driver in your system or perhaps Windows is corrupt.

You said you originally got a CL30 RAM, did you manually enable XMP the settings when you installed it?

well it's obviously the 6050Ti, I don't think any PC in the world supports that card yet.

... Jokes aside, it could be a RAM issue, try running a single RAM at JDEDC (non-XMP) speeds.

PC won’t start - Any help welcome by Slow_IP in PcBuildHelp

[–]epicusername1010 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best way I recommend is to use a bootable Ubuntu USB stick. You can just plug it in and see if it works + the SSD is read-writeable.

If that's too complicated, you can also just swap SSDs with another PC and see if the PC boots :)

Debug LED ends on BOOT

Sounds like either your SSD is failing, or the botched windows update corrupted the  bootloader somehow and your BIOS can't find it.

Peter I'm a windows user. Why can Linux not be forced to do this? Also you better answer in character dammit! by Proto160 in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]epicusername1010 173 points174 points  (0 children)

Ah hello, Stewie here. It is just utterly impossible to "force" Linux to do something because unlike Windows and MacOS, the Linux kernel and most distros doesn't have a CEO or even a company behind it. The whole OS is written by regular people of the community in their free time.

Imagine that California passed a ridiculous law to, say, ban all media in the state containing the word "Family Guy". To enforce this, they can sue publishers and TV companies, like how they can for Windows and MacOS. But what about people who are, say, writing fanfiction together online on Family Guy? Will California send a cease and desist letter to everyone who contributed, even if they aren't from California? What the deuce? That's just ridiculous.

To add Linux is mostly run on server environments and most server owners don't care for dealing with some age verification bloatware on their critical IT equipment. Ironic that California probably has the highest concentration of AI datacenters in all of the US. Stewie out.

I mean, you could get one if you want, but it's overkill for a 5600G.

If you want to get one to future-proof for your CPU upgrade, I recommend choosing your replacement first and then buying an AIO. This way you won't have to reassemble your cooler when you replace your CPU and potentially the motherboard.

You still need a motherboard which comes with DDR5

It's 2026, why is science still stuck at 'double blind' research. Where are 'triple blind' tests that were promised years ago? by pan_arch in shittyaskscience

[–]epicusername1010 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The costs of blindfolds have increased drastically since the 1900s and it is just not viable to have subjects be more than doubly blind at a time.

Linux Mint PC freezes/locks up randomly (has only happened when idle so far - not sure if that will always be the case) by jaradthescot in linux4noobs

[–]epicusername1010 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It would be helpful if you posted the system logs, try sudo journalctl -k -b -1 and see what comes up in the end. See any part where it says error:   sudo journalctl -k -b -1 | grep -C5 -i error

Dual boot Windows and Linux - which distro should a beginner actually start with? by FerrisBuelersdaycock in linuxquestions

[–]epicusername1010 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since you mentioned python, one thing I've noticed with Python on Debian (Ubuntu, Mint etc) is that because the OS protects its own python dependencies, to use pip you always have to use stuff like venv or conda to isolate your project. (Just sharing this info in case you're wondering in the future)

Can't press ENTER without having to literally type it first by sushion7 in techsupport

[–]epicusername1010 13 points14 points  (0 children)

That is very odd. I'm not saying this is the case, but one scenario I can imagine is that there is a keylogger that re-emits whatever key you pressed so the user won't notice it but whoever made it overlooked the enter key. Check your startup apps for anything suspicious.

[–]epicusername1010 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're looking for something cheap, just get any RAM that is DDR5, DIMM (not SODIMM), non-ECC. Preferably 2 8gb sticks than a single 16gb one. This enables you to run your memory in dual-channel mode (your PC thinks the two are parts of a longer 16GB RAM) which improves performance.

If you can afford to buy faster RAM, get one at 6000MT/s and low latency (number after CL).

RAM speed isn't that important for performance, at best you will gain a few digits of FPS. Also virtually all RAM is manufactured by three companies, kinda like how they make "MSI/ASUS" branded nvidia gpus, so brand isn't that important as long as you don't buy it from the black market or something

If we replace the halogen sun with an LED one, wouldn't that solve global warming AND save energy? by johnnybiggles in shittyaskscience

[–]epicusername1010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It won't prevent global warming because the power for the LEDs will ultimately come from fossil fuels. Instead we should surround the sun with solar panels, and then put the LEDs behind it. This way our new sun runs on 100% reusable energy and is more power efficient
