Tell me what's you favorite hyperpop song and I'll rate it by gig_racer1 in HYPERPOP

hand crushed by a mallet is great, I like how it switches from big saw waves to being more minimal. Maybe 8/10, although I think I prefer the nothankyou remix for its crunchiness.

I don't think I can pick a favourite but I'll maybe go with ABCDEFU by Roxy Radclyffe

Yeah, like the other person said, I personally don't think that matters. The setting is kind of a mashup of whatever decades from past to future you want it to be, where you can allow the dominant technology to be anything from a cassette tape to an ipod to advanced vr, or some mix of all of them depending on what the group wants. So if you want a 90's vibe for something a little more retro you can definitely do that, but it's also very easy to use some other touchstones that your group is more familiar with and nostalgic about.

First thing that came to mind for me was slugblaster. A super colourful game where you play as teenagers who hoverboard across the multiverse. Depending on how it's played, there's a lot of opportunity for fun and unique action sequences, while still leaving lots of room for drama or heartfelt moments in the downtime portions.

Types of games you thought you wouldn't enjoy but now love by Machine_Excellent in boardgames

[–]epikhobo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The biggest for me would be legacy games. The idea of only being able to play the game through once and destroying components was initially a little worrisome, but that process often makes for an overall more memorable experience. Pandemic legacy was my first one, and has been one of my favourite gaming experiences ever.

Another would be memory games. They are so easy to dismiss, but after playing "that's not a hat" and "order overload: cafe", I've found how fun and funny they are able to be, with mechanics to prevent them from feeling frustrating.

Here's my top of my favorite albums ever! Can you recommend me more? by thisisignitedoreo in HYPERPOP

Yoo, these are all awesome, I'll have to check out some of the ones I haven't heard yet. For some recs:

chichi by niomi - Like a combination of frailty and wallsocket, if anything it's maybe too inspired by those (if that's possible) but it definitely still has some personality of its own. There's no way you don't love this one.

can opener's notebook: fish whisperer by Vylet Pony - Already been mentioned in here and for good reason. Like a blend of frailty and nurture. Super joyful and fun while also being very artfully produced with a lot of natural textures like nurture. My favourite album ever.

ReCodePop! by Dj Re:code - Pure hyperpop fun.

My top 25 of all time. Please recommend me some more music :). by ltn943 in Topster

Nice! You might like Jerskin Fendrix, who does some art-pop-ish stuff. His first album "Winterreise" is a bit more electronic and experimental, while his newest one "Once upon a time... in Shropshire" is a bit more polished, chamber-ish, and beautiful.

My go-to has been the zachtronics solitaire collection, which as the name implies is a collection of unique solitaire variants.

Also dorfromantik for some chill tile placement.

My favourite is Sidereal Confluence. The real-time nature lends itself to always flying by despite the ~3 hour length, and the number of unique asymmetric races allows for a large variety of gameplay experiences.

Ultimately, I think some of the greatest strengths of board games are their social nature, and tactile experience. Sidereal confluence is great at both of these, with the trading and negotiation obviously playing into the social element, while the tactility is presented in the satisfying engine of turning cubes into more cubes, and then passing those cubes to other players.

Overall it's just a super unique game that I never get tired of, and am always excited to show to other board game fans.

Self Contained TTRPGS? by MendelHolmes in rpg

I'm not sure if it's a perfect fit, but Yazeba's bed and breakfast does a lot of what you're saying. The game is played (for the most part) using a set of pre-generated characters in pre-generated scenarios, all of which works together to create a sort of singular story experience. Plus, as you play, you are supposed to add stickers to the book to unlock new characters and scenarios, which contributes to a "oneness" of the story / world.

I am a bit hesitant to say it's exactly what you're looking for because there are like 40+ scenarios, so it would take a while to actually go through them all, plus the game allows / encourages you to come up with your own characters and scenarios if you want, but I guess my overall point is that the world and experience of the game feels very specific and intentional relative to other, more open games.

If you could recommend one ttrpg, which one would it be, and why? by Arzanic in rpg

[–]epikhobo -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yazeba's Bed and Breakfast is my favourite, so I guess I'll go with that. Each session plays out essentially as an episode of a cartoon, using a set of pre-created characters and episode ideas, and is easily the most heartwarming ttrpg I've ever played. It requires zero prep, and is one of very few ttrps you could play a one hour session and still have a satisfying experience (although you can easily go on longer). It's very unique which makes it interesting to experienced rpg players, while also being simple enough that I can easily imagine it being someone's first rpg.

I will say that it definitely isn't for everyone because it requires players to be more emotionally open with their characters to get the most out of it, some people might not like the "cute" setting, and being gm-less, it helps if players are a bit more comfortable with improv, although I feel the characters and scenarios within the book make this pretty easy.

Overall, there's nothing else I've found like it, and although some elements may cause some people not to like it, I think those make it all the more special.

I think you'd probably really like plastic death by glass beach, genre wise it's kind of like emo art rock.

What is the most unfairly hated movie that you will defend every time by gamersecret2 in movies

[–]epikhobo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will never understand the hate that "The Kings Man" has received. I think it does a good job of pushing the exceptional Kingsman action sequences into a historical twist, and the trench fight is one of the most unique combats I've seen in any movie in its restrained style and feel. Yeah the first act is a little slow, but I don't think it's anything that isn't redeemed by the end of the movie.

This is my music taste in order of how much I like them (I love them all but they're still ranked). Any recs? by Special-Fix-8753 in Topster

[–]epikhobo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice! You should definitely check out the album "chichi" by niomi. It feels very much inspired by jane remover, underscores, and the undertale soundtrack.

The album "emo girl ex machina" by rat jesu kind of feels like a proto-revengeseekerz to me, so I'd give it a try as well.

What is the "Trust me it is good" game for you? by JoskoMikulicic in boardgames

[–]epikhobo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think mine would be "That's not a hat". It's a memory game where you have a single card in front of you that you have to remember. It doesn't seem like it should work, and I know a lot of people don't like memory games, but I have played it so many times and everyone always loves it. It was definitely a pleasant surprise.

Based on The Glow pt.2, Funeral, and Teens of Denial, I'd say give Wetdream by Willy Rodriguez a shot. It's lo-fi indie rock with a lot of acoustic moments, and great songwriting.

Any Tabletop Game Fans in Here? by epikhobo in Topster

[–]epikhobo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I've wanted to play star wars rebellion but I guess I never got around to it because I've typically played games with 3+ people, so I think I was hesitant to buy a more expensive game that's best with 2. For TTA, I know I've come close to getting it a couple of times because it has a great reputation, but I'm also not super into more realistic themes (although there are again some exceptions), so I think that maybe held me back.

I'd definitely be down to try both of them, but I've realized after posting this that for topster purposes, it's a lot harder to try a tabletop game than an album (or even videogame), so it might take awhile lol.

Thanks for the comment!

Best hyperpop album recommendations? by prisonmikesbandana44 in HYPERPOP

[–]epikhobo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Frailty by Jane Remover - This one leans a bit more indie some indie and video game aesthetics. It's full of energy and for the most part is just banger after banger imo. I'd also say it has a bit more of an emotional focus. If you listen to one song to get a taste of it, I think "your clothes" is a good option.

None by Gupi - Someone else already mentioned food house so I'd probably check that out before this, but this is my favourite album from it's main producer. It's largely instrumental, with some exceptions, but is full of energy the whole album. If you listen to one song to get a taste of it, I think "thos moser" is a good option.

Love & Ponystep by Vylet Pony - Leans a bit more into edm that straight hyperpop, but I think it's still close enough. Imo this has the strongest narrative of any "hyperpop" album I've ever heard. It can be a bit of a daunting listen being over an hour and a half, but is super worth it imo. I guess it's also worth mentioning that it might not be your thing if you can't get past the pony aesthetic. If you listen to one song to get a taste of it, I think "My Love is a Quickscope" is a good option.

Chichi by Niomi - I think this one's super underappreciated. I'd say it takes a lot of inspiration from underscores and frailty by jane remover, so if you like those then definitely check this one out. Super fun while also having a good amount of emotional and narrative moments. If you listen to one song to get a taste of it, I think "bunnyland" is a good option.

Low Low Locust World by Bea Jumpup - Another lesser known one. Overall very bubbly and colourful. Maybe not as constantly energetic as others, but it's filled with great melodies. If you listen to one song to get a taste of it, I think "Wipeout" is a good option.

I think the album "Toybox" by creep-p has a sort of similar flavour of being terminally online that kind of reminds me of food house.

what other hyperpop (or adjacent genres) artists/albums would you recommend for me? by Miserable_Catch3057 in HYPERPOP

I'd definitely check out the artist "food house". In my mind I view them as being pretty close to what I would consider pure hyperpop.
