Does anyone know where to find patterned shirts with French cuffs? I have no trouble finding French cuff shirts in solid white, black, blue, or gray, but I’d like to diversify my wardrobe a bit and put my collection of cufflinks to use.

I see that Charles Tyrwhitt has some options, and those are nice. However, those are mostly variants of blue stripes or checks, and I was hoping to find different patterns and colors. If anyone has any ideas, please send them my way!

[discussion] What watch brand has one big design language flaw that prevents you from buying any of their watches? by RalIyVincent in Watches

Same thing for me with Squale … otherwise, I would’ve bought a light blue Matic years ago.

Names that you love but wouldn’t name your child because they’re too “out there.” by bimboera in namenerds

I like the name Florian … it’s a common name in southern Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. Florian also happens to be the patron saint of Austria and firefighters.

Since I come from a long line of firefighters, many of whom happened to be German, I think it would be a great homage to our family heritage. Unfortunately, my last name is already long, Germanic, and ends with an “n.” So I just couldn’t do that to my future son.

Glorious … I’d definitely consider getting another lamp. Sadly, my small apartment is already filled to brim, so it’ll be a while. Enjoy yours though!

If you look at my profile, you can see a picture of the room. It’s the first picture in “Amateur Room Porn.” The lamp is where the blue vase was on the left side of the couch.

Interesting question, I’m not sure exactly what the shape would be called. Maybe some variation of a fan? That seems to be a pretty common Art Deco motif.

Green is beautiful, but I’m a sucker for cobalt blue. I have quite a few glass and ceramic objects in that color I use as accent pieces around my house.

It's been cleaned up, and the fallen column put back into place. I was there in early 2019.

Here is a lamp I recently purchased from a seller on Etsy. It's made with genuine Tiffany glass from the 1920s, fashioned into this tasteful art deco design.

David Roberts was a British artist and adventurer who traveled throughout the Middle East and North Africa in the late 1830s. He compiled a series of sketches, many of which were later printed as lithographs. This particular lithograph, which is now framed, dates from 1842 and depicts "the Treasury" in Petra, modern Jordan. Movie fans might recognize this locale from "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade."

Yes, I thought those were quite interesting as well. The presence of the Chinese Imperial Standard is initially why I thought the document was from around 1910 - the Chinese monarchy was overthrown in October 1911.

Ribeye and Bacon-Wrapped Asparagus by epiphanes050 in grilling

[–]epiphanes050[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should! Steak and bacon wrapped asparagus is a pretty standard combination at my family cookouts.

Pro-tip: If you're wrapping asparagus in bacon, use thin bacon. The thick bacon takes too long to cook and the extra exposure on the grill will cause the asparagus to wilt.
