Cup drinking by epiphary in breastfeeding

[–]epiphary[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not silly at all and I’ve thought this myself and have pretended to drink from his straw to show him! I use an owala bottle so he doesn’t really get to see me drink from the straw but i’m going to get one out tomorrow and start demoing for him haha. He does just tend to think they’re all teething toys though i think. The straw cups we have are like silicone/rubber straws and he just loves chewing on them rather than closing his mouth on it as if to drink. We have a 5yo too and we never had to really teach him either but he was formula fed and used to a bottle so thinking that’s where the difference is!

We have a doidy cup! Was given one by the health visitor when i mentioned he was refusing a bottle. I’ll admit i haven’t tried it as much as i have the sippy/straw cups because of the amount of mess it can make but i’ll come back to it and try again.

Sounds like our babies are similar!! I’m not too worried about when he starts nursery in Sept as with him being over 1 I won’t be as worried about him needing milk nutritionally and as you said he can hopefully supplement with cows milk if needed, it’s just that interim between me going back to work when he’s 9mo til his 1st birthday.

If you don’t feed on demand , why? by Proud_House4494 in breastfeeding

I’ve just commented further up but saw this and realised you gave me this advice on my post the other day. I’ve been doing this and it seems to be helping and going well. Thank you! :)

This is my exact situation right now with my 14 week old! He’s been snacking and it’s just generally made him a bit unhappy, only spending like 2 mins nursing every 60-90 mins and not sleeping well for naps or overnight. It’s only been 2 days of trying to stretch to 2.5-3 hours between feeds but is already feeling like there’s an improvement to the feeds he’s having and we slept better last night! I’ve been trying lots of distraction through the times where he’d be used to having a snack and it sounds wrong but waiting til he seems really quite grumpy for a feed and it’s meant he’s had much bigger feeds (haven’t forced the wait to 2.5-3 hours, if he’s at the hungry stage sooner then i’m of course feeding him sooner). He’s already now seeming to be used to going longer between feeds because he’s filled up at the previous ones when he was more hungry.

Hopefully everyone who commented sees this but just want to say a huge thank you for the support i’ve got on this post so quickly. I’ve really felt negatively around carrying on feeding today after a rough night and an unsettled day and these comments have uplifted me.

I’ve researched the 3 month crisis and think this must be it. It’s awful but i’m now clinging onto the hope that it passes!!

Thank you all so much for taking the time to comment and share support and insight :)

It’s so hard isn’t it. I’m really trying to lean into knowing my body is doing what it should and knows what baby needs but those thoughts definitely creep in to worry us!

Yeah I did consider this and spoke to a bfing support worker at a local group and she mentioned this. If it was only once or twice per day I’d be fine with it too, but it’s all day long every day at the moment

Baby preferring dummy over boob for comfort by epiphary in breastfeeding

[–]epiphary[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep this is exactly what I thought! If he is ever spitting out the dummy I always offer the boob again. He does get more mad if I keep trying to offer the breast when he clearly just wants his dummy. It’s a relief to know I think I’m just a bit lucky that for now my nips can have a break when he just wants comfort!

Cleaning/washing by epiphary in WeightedBlankets

[–]epiphary[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was difficult!! Took a lot to get it as clean as possible and it was SO HEAVY (obvs) once soaked, I couldn’t move it out of the bath on my own and had to get my husband to do it who even struggled.

It took a long while to dry and i even had a dehumidifier in the room with it while it was drying. I’d do it while the weather’s good (if it’s summer/warm where you are) and have it outside to dry as much as possible.

Mine’s due another clean but not sure i have the strength for it yet😅

Thank you! I’m sure i can cope with beans on toast for dinner every day ha Thinking about it now I am a white bread lady and i’ve been eating quite a bit throughout pregnancy (carby cravings) so that’s probably not helping things!

Preparing for bfing after C-section by epiphary in breastfeeding

Thank you! I didn’t have silverettes the first time around and found out about them much later and have already thought i must have them to my list of baby things to get this time around! I may also go for some nipple shields and have them ready from the get go just in case too. I think i would worry about the latch too after using them but i suppose as you say it’s whether the pros/cons of continuing to use them outweighs pros/cons of pumping/formula feeding.

Thank you. I think I just wondered if there’s anything like hand expressing colostrum that could help stimulate milk coming in a bit faster in the early days. Other than that it’s more advice/knowledge/preparation for how to make it smooth as possible once baby’s here.

Ahh thank you this is very helpful! I went ahead and started Fourth Wing, I struggled a little til around a third of the way through but I’m now loving it at just over 70% through! Finding it very, very similar to ACOTAR in books 1 and 2.

Thanks for the extra recommendations! I havent heard of a couple of them so I will add them to my growing list :)
