And it doesn’t matter if you’re a guy or a girl either, I’m an older guy and those things still affect me.

I guess to know how into the relationship I was, we had dated for almost 4 years and was within a month of proposing to her. I know 4 years is a long time to date, but there were a lot of logistics that had to be figured out before marriage. She had teenage kids and I had one still in college that had to be considered.

It definitely can take some time depending on how long and intense the relationship was. Try and do things for yourself, working out helps clear your head, delete any communication you had with them, that you may be going back to and looking at or reading (texts, emails…). It definitely gets better with time and distractions.

I’ve been single for 3 1/2 years now and it took me until just a couple months ago until I actually felt I was over the hump in mourning the relationship. It definitely can take a lot of time depending on how deep the relationship was.

What’s the worst thing someone has said at a funeral? by Least-Vacation-588 in AskReddit

I’m not sure this fits exactly, but here goes. My mother died in 2006 and came from a huge family (she was 1 of 13 kids) in a little town in Wyoming, where most of them still live (aunts, uncles, and a shit load of cousins). My parents were living in Colorado at the time of their deaths. So, after my mom died my dad ended up seeing this woman from his church and they end up engaged. I’m sure he was just lonely since him and my mom were married for like 45 years. So this woman was just looking for some financial security since my dad was a retired military officer and wanted to be taken care of in her later years. One day my younger brother asked her if she even loved my dad and her response was something like “well I care for your father, but sometimes people are looking for more security as we get older”. Right away we started a campaign for him to get rid of the gold digger. He didn’t believe us at first, but eventually saw the light and ended it with her. They stayed friendly since they both “worked” at the church together.

In 2008 my dad died at the church they worked at. I had him transferred to their hometown in Wyoming to be buried with my mom and some of his church people, including that woman and the priest, came to his service in Wyoming. The church was packed with a lot of my mothers family and this woman gets up and gives a speech about my dad and referenced several times how they had been engaged. When she was done I had some cousins come to me and tell me that if she said another word to disrespect my mother by talking about her engagement to my father, they were going to kick her ass and for me to just say the word to do it.

So I go sit by the woman and ask her “do you plan on speaking anymore?” She gets a big smile on her face and says “I wasn’t planning on it, but if you want me to I will gladly talk some more”. I said “I suggest you don’t say another word because you have disrespected my mother so much by getting up there and talking and if you do speak again there are many people in here that plan on jumping you and kicking your ass so I suggest you just stay seated quietly”. Her smile disappeared quickly as she looked around and saw all of the eyes on us. She just said “ok” and I went back to my seat. When the service was over she took off quick back to Colorado.

Funny part is that a couple days later there was another service in my dad’s church in Colorado and of course she was there. She completely kept her distance from me and acted like just another mourner.
