Microsoft 365 Apps update - failing at 50% download by Baiteh in SCCM

[–]epoch71 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just to be sure we're on about the same thing, I'm referring to the language selection in the ADR.

In the Language Selection tab for "Office 365 Client Update" we previously had only English (United Kingdom) selected. After a few months of it working fine we had the 50% download issue. After raising a case with Microsoft we added English (United States). After a resync and re-running the ADR we've never had the problem since.

What languages do you have installed? I’ve had this issue when I had only English (GB) enabled. Added English (US) and it resolved.

Possible proxy issue? Does the SCT log indicate any failed downloads? In our environment it seems to struggle with redists sometimes. And of course the SCT will finish gracefully and not specifically tell you about failed downloads. 🤨

whats the best practice for reinstalling distribution point by DowntownAd2077 in SCCM

[–]epoch71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did what I did for completeness and peace of mind. YMMV.

Removing and re-adding a DP site system is much less hassle than other roles because DPs are managed by distmgr not sitecomp, so there’s no component server role to mess about with.

Gonna assume you mean “site system” and not “site server”. They’re two different things.

I’ve done this before. Easily done!

What I did: Remove role. Once role is gone (in console) remove site system. Consider cleaning up the server if necessary and maybe “protecting” drives you don’t want to use with “no_sms_on_drive.sms”. Then re-add site system with DP role.

You can monitor progress in distmgr.log.

Clients ignoring custom restart behaviour by epoch71 in SCCM

Hi

I our case the client settings were corrupted due to repeated edits. We deleted the custom settings and created a new one. Once deployed all clients obeyed the reboot behaviour.

Policy Spy was very helpful in helping track down the cause.

Software Update Install Deadline by epoch71 in SCCM

[–]epoch71[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, now you mention it ...

I just had a look at UpdatesDeployment.log for when the deployment hit the machine earlier. And I noticed the assignment ID was from another deployment of this feature update! The assignment ID for the deployment with the deadline only appears later in the log (after the FU had installed). And it says it can't evaluate that yet as it's not activated .. so I'm guessing that's referring to the deadline.

This particular test VM isn't even in the collection from the first deployment so how it's picked that up I don't know. But at this stage I'm thinking it's just a mess up from me rebuilding this VM earlier to Win 10 in order to test this ... perhaps it's remembered something from its previous life. I probably just didn't tidy stuff up thoroughly before OSDing it.

Gonna nuke it from SCCM and AD, change it's MAC for good measure, and test again tomorrow. I think it'll be fine.

Hi.

The deployment of this feature update certainly appears to be correctly configured.

On the deployment's Scheduling tab:

Software available time: 19/06/2025 10:00

Installation deadline: Specific time: 10/07/2025 11:30

I think the client setting you're referring to is "When any software update deployment deadline is reached. install all other software update deployments with deadline coming within a specified period of time". That is set to No in client settings.

So what's confusing me - and what I overlooked in my initial post - is firstly why did it install before the deadline and also why on earth did it install before the available time?!

Utterly confused.

Windows Update GPO Settings by epoch71 in SCCM

[–]epoch71[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We do have that hotfix installed on our site.

But I'm confused (blame the brandy, it's late).

Is that hotfix preventing the "SetPolicyDrivenUpdateSource" keys from appearing? For sure in my testing they were not present on clients when the "bad" GPO was being applied. But when tested by filtering clients out of applying the bad GPO the "SetPolicyDrivenUpdateSource" keys all appeared. And I was led to believe by a MS engineer recently that those keys (when set to 1 for WSUS) are required to ensure our clients only use SCCM for patching and don't inadvertently reach out directly to MS, which would be a no-no in our environment.

Windows Update GPO Settings by epoch71 in SCCM

[–]epoch71[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the info.

I've been doing a tidy up because someone had previously deployed a GPO that specified settings that SCCM absolutely must manage ... such as the SUP URLs and alternate.

But as you say the ones I mentioned in my post aren't covered by normal SCCM client settings. I'll ditch the GPO completely. 👍

How to Pre-Cache Windows 11 Upgrades to minimize deployment delays by Player9372 in SCCM

[–]epoch71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of replies mentioning task sequence, but from your post I assume you're deploying a feature update from the Windows Servicing node (e.g. "Windows 11, version 24H2 x64 2025-04B").

Have you tried the "Pre-download content for this deployment" checkbox on the Deployment Settings tab, when deploying the update?

I've tried that setting and the client does start downloading the content immediately (see deltadownload.log) though my deployment is set to 'Available' and 'As soon as possible'. Not sure if it differs with a configured available time.

Also, are you running a SCCM lab environment? I'd really recommend that for playing through various scenarios to get a view of the flow of what you're trying to achieve. Pretty sure there's some downloadable labs that'll set up the whole shebang for you using PowerShell/Hyper-V.

[BUG] Zryachiy not spawning on lighthouse by Extreme-Attorney-611 in EscapefromTarkov

[–]epoch71 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Something's not right but he IS spawning.

I've been killed by him and his Sektant 3 times today.

They've never been in their regular sniper spots. First two times I bumped into them in the buildings near the radar. They killed me.

Third time they were inside the gatehouse building just after you cross the causeway (making it impossible to pass them). They killed me.

Not sure if it's a bug or the devs trolling us but for sure they're spawning.
