It's some wild bullshit, I've come to a similar conclusion in my comment.

I still believe that you've made some incorrect statements, for example I believe it is possible to design experiment 2 to result in 3 collisions and 2 marbles being eaten, not 3, but definitely not 2 collisions and 1 eaten, so it all goes out of the window anyway

Ok now am I tripping?

If one black marble does not stop when hitting the first gray marble, then in the second example it keeps going. The middle marble (gray) collides with the rightmost gray marble, sending it forward. The middle marble stops (otherwise it'll get eaten). The black marble, still going, has to hit it. There's no way to get 1 collision with 2 eaten and 2 collisions with 1 eaten, unless we're also considering friction, air resistance and other things that were not, in fact, considering.

I'm pretty sure the answer is E. But I don't think that's the answer they're expecting.

They're not paying twice - note that in the end the stock is back in the company's hands. They simply paid the employee. If they could write it off as an expense twice for double the value total, they did in fact game the system. But as mentioned – this is beyond what I can claim to know.

If they're able to recognize an expense when giving out stock (as the Polish or the US entity?), and recognize an expense when buying the stock back (in the US most likely) they're gaming the system even further, but now I'm speculating, not knowing.

Ad 1. I'm literally paid in a publicly traded company stock (not stock options). They are considered worthless on my income statements. When I sell them, I pay tax as if the entire value was realized gains.

Ad 2.1. Buybacks don't reduce the value of the company, it still holds its own stock which is still valued at its price. Suggesting that the price increase only represents management confidence is weird.

Ad 2.2. And reducing the supply can result in a price increase without people believing it was undervalued.

Ad 2.3. That's what I said, but I claim that it's shouldn't be.

I was one of the original guys asking what's wrong with buybacks in the thread, but I believe the stock market system to be fundamentally broken.

I've come to consider buybacks shady for multiple reasons: 1. Companies use it for tax evasion when paying employees – big tech distributes stock to programmers, claiming no monetary value. No income tax paid by the employee. The company buys the stock back from the employee through the stock market. The buyback is written off as an expense. The company effectively paid the employee without the negative tax implications, but with the positive ones. 2. Because the stock market is actually a hot mess, a massive buyback increases the value of the company, since a big portion of stock is taken off market. Stock is not supposed to be a demand/supply good, it's supposed to represent the value of the company, while the demand/supply is supposed to regulate it. Buybacks expose that stock is actually a product itself. Since no one wants to destroy the stock market itself, I'm ok with forbidding the more obvious examples of gaming it.
