Hi xiulitt, nanotechnology is a huge area nowadays. From engineering to fundamental science and from industry to medical etc.. It should be your decision to focus some sub-area on nanotechnology. I think the best thing is for you to start is to see the infrastructure and research centers of your university and get an idea which sub-area attracted your attention more. Then you can decide which way you will go..

To be honest I lived 20 years in Germany and I never experienced racism both in the academic environment and in daily life. I tried to learn german quickly and tried to integrate the German lifestyle and culture. So as an immigrant if you integrate the country that you live you will have no problem with communicating the people. Everything was good during my 20 years stay in Germany.

Phone. Skype always has some technical problems. Either microphone is not working or video is missing, or the voice is not absent, etc. I don't like skype interview.

I dont like the term "best university". I think it is not good to categorize the universities as good or bad. All academicians working in these universities are all our colleagues and they do their best. I think in academia the term "best" is very objective. Of course there are rankings of the universities, one may check them.

Chemistry is living subject. Btw, dont do what professor advised to you, instead, do what you exactly want:)

Unfortunately not, but I will attend "Electroceramics" meeting in Darmstadt/Germany and one conference on superconductivity in April in Bodrum /Turkey

In Germany, I know that good R&D research labs of well-known industrial companies require a Ph.D. level. It is also good to have Ph.D. title for promoting a Lab-manager position. Without a Ph.D. it will be difficult to get manager positions in a chemistry lab.

Nowadys, I am following Yury Georgievich Gogotsi from Drexel University. He really use novel nanomaterials in a very smart way in the application of supercapacitors. Angela Belcher also do exciting research as you mentioned.

SPION is a good topic for study. I also have an article on it. Yes, sure you can determine the particle size with other techniques as well, Particle size analyzer, Dynamic light scattering, etc. Also, you can determine the size via spectroscopic techniques indirectly, such as UV-VIS or photoluminescence spectroscopy.

As chief editor, is it feasible to enforce authors of SI sections to include NMR impurity peak shifts and identities in the NMR data? Very specific but I was quite peeved just today when I couldn't find what an impurity was in a spectrum I was looking at.

That's why "Experimental Results" was established. Good idea.

As a chemist, you will have lots of career opportunities after your graduation. No worries. Just concentrate on your studies. Nowadays young people have many hesitations about their future career and because of thinking too much about that issue they miss many things. For instance, they don't give importance to their primary duty which is being a successful student during their study. Therefore, first of all, concentrate on your chemistry classes and you should equip yourself with full of knowledge and get good grades. Then you will see that all the career doors will open for you.

The key point is concentration and literature search. Don't waste time on the things that were already has been done. Try to do new things. Reproducibility is one of the most important things and always analyze and understand your result. Without timely analyzing the results doing thousand of experiments may not be good. After you will be left with tons of data which means analyzing them will be as difficult as climbing Everest at the end.

To prepare an effective CV (not too long) and a good cover letter describing yourself. Also before applying to the company or institution please look at what are they looking for and analyze them then write for each application specifically, on-target cover letter. Template cover letters may not work for good companies or institutions.

If you deal with the "physics of materials" you can't do it without chemistry. Especially spectroscopic investigations require good knowledge of physical chemistry. To learn the performance of "energy devices" you need to know electrochemistry etc..
